Bible Verse of The Day – 9-27-17

Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV) 31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

Wait. It’s a word that none of us likes to hear!

We have become a world of people who never want to wait for anything. We want something, and we want it now.

Microwave ovens, drive-through windows at banks, restaurants and pharmacies means faster service. We have become accustomed to getting what we want, when we want it.

But not with God. God wants us to learn to wait on Him. Not just for the sake of waiting, but so that He can prepare us for what He’s doing or going to do.

We tend to make a lot of demands, even with God. We pray and ask Him for something. Or we might not even bother asking. Instead, we just tell Him or demand something of Him.

And He replies with silence. Or so it might seem to us. Is He really silent, or is He telling us to wait?

It’s important for us to know and remember that if we aren’t hearing from God, we shouldn’t make any moves, except for whatever the last thing was that He told us to do. Otherwise, we simply need to wait on Him to show us what’s next.

It’s funny that the verse above says that those who wait on the Lord won’t grow weary and they won’t faint.

Why? Because they won’t be wasting their time, efforts and energy pursuing things that God hasn’t told them to pursue. And they won’t be pursuing those things He has told them to pursue using methods and means that He hasn’t given to them to use.

So, it pays to wait on God, no matter how hard it might seem to our impatient, spoiled flesh.

Sometimes our flesh just needs to be told to sit still… and wait.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-7-17

Genesis 18:14 (NKJV) 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”

God spoke to Abraham and told him that his wife, Sarah, would have a son at the appointed time. Sarah had been barren for years, and now they were both old and well past the age of having children.

Do you feel like you are just chomping at the bit to get something done on your home, or save up to purchase a car to drive? Maybe you have been waiting for a spouse or for your children to change in their behavior.

Some people are waiting for things to change in their marriage. You are praying and believing God, but you feel like it will never change; it feels like it’s too late.

I want to remind you today of His appointed time and Whom your faith is in.

God is not going to leave you empty-handed. He will not turn His back on you, and He will not ignore you. Your prayer is not voided out.

He is God. He is forever and ever! He doesn’t forget what we have asked of Him, even if we haven’t seen any changes as of yet.

He won’t disappoint us. He won’t say “Oh, my dear child, you have asked me for so much. You met your quota and I cannot give you another thing”.

God is faithful. God is Good. He will remember, and you will get your answer as you stay steadfast in your faith. Sing praises to Him today, for in that appointed time He will meet your needs!

Psalm 57:7 (NKJV) 7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-8-16

Galatians 2:1 (NKJV) 2 Then after fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and also took Titus with me.

14 years!

In the verse above, Paul is telling about his travels and the works that he did to plant and grow churches in the early New Testament days.

Let’s look at one little part of this verse that has nothing to do with Paul’s topic of discussion; 14 years.

As Paul tells of his discussions with other leaders, he mentions various periods of time for his visits and his travels. Sometimes it’s days. Sometimes it’s months. Other times it’s years.

Most times you and I tend to read right through these numbers and pay little attention to them. But as I read this passage last night, it struck me that Paul specifically mentioned that 14 years had passed between his visits to Jerusalem. That’s a long time!

So what’s the point in this devotional? Why focus on 14 years and not on Paul’s topic of discussion?

Because that 14 years says a lot!

From the day of Paul’s encounter with Jesus and then his subsequent conversion, he spent his life traveling, teaching, overseeing and growing the body of Christ. He traveled for years on end and worked tirelessly, despite being beaten for preaching the gospel, shipwrecked multiple times and even stoned and left for dead. And all of this because of his faith!

But let’s look at ourselves. So many times we ask God for something. And then when a few weeks has passed, we throw our hands up in the air because we don’t have our answer yet. Or, better stated, we didn’t get the answer we were looking for in the time frame that we wanted it in.

But let’s remember Paul. He didn’t give up if he didn’t see the results he was looking for right away. He didn’t rely on his understanding of things based on carnal knowledge, intellect and human logic. He listened to the Holy Spirit and let God lead Him in everything.

So let that 14 years help us to put things into proper perspective. God moves in the timing that He does because He sees the big picture and has infinite understanding. While we have limited vision and finite understanding.

His understanding is always better than ours.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-15-16

Psalm 27:14 (NKJV) 14 Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!

Are we getting ready to make a huge move? If we can hold out and wait on the Lord, He will strengthen our hearts and help us to make the right choice.

Are we tired today, feeling like we are just done with it all? Are we stressed and worn out from waiting, and then waiting some more?

We may need to remind ourselves of all the other times that God was there for us and He answered our prayers.

This time is no different. It may be a little different situation, but He is the same God that helped us last time. And He will be there for us this time as well.

Be of good courage and wait!!

Don’t let anxiety take over and sweep us off our feet. It will distract us and take us down the wrong road, if we let it. Anxiety, or anxiousness, is a wearing out tactic the enemy loves to use on us all.

The Lord is faithful. Wait. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-12-15

Psalm 40:1 (NKJV) 40 I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.

We’ll admit that we have been through a thing or two the last several years. We’ve been through some pretty dark times. It’s just part of life, and nobody is immune. Nobody.

We’ve had days when we literally laid on the floor and cried.

We cried out to God. We cried because of our circumstances. We cried because we felt lost and alone. And we cried because we wanted to make right choices that were pleasing to God.

And we waited…

We waited for answers. We waited for a breakthrough. We waited for someone to come along and help us out of the situation we were in. We waited for money to fall out of the sky and make it all better. And we waited on God.

And God heard us.

God heard us every time we cried out. He heard our cries and He listened. And He answered us. In His time, not ours. And this was the thing that we had to understand. That God answered us, in His timing, but not in ours.

And He answered us the way He knew was right, not in the way we wanted or the way we thought He should.

But the important thing to note is that He did answer us. And He did rescue us. He did bring a breakthrough. In His timing.

So don’t feel abandoned. Don’t feel neglected. Don’t feel like you’re without hope.

God does hear you, and He will answer. In His timing and with His answer.

And His answers are always what’s best for us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-15-15

Psalm 27:14 (NKJV) 14 Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!

Things change and this requires us to change with them at times. The thing that drives us crazy is when something changes and we don’t always know what changes to make on our end.

Not long ago, we were faced with a complete change in our situation. We were like, “OK God, you have our attention, what do we do?”

Everything was different. We tried to keep on doing what we were used to doing, hoping things would go back to the way they were. But it was not helping or working. So, we began to just pull back, pray, listen and watch.

It wasn’t long before God began to give us direction. We had to make some serious changes. Big changes from what we were used to doing and the way we were used to doing them.

I’ll admit, new stuff stresses me out. I like repetition and routine. I like knowing what I need to do and just doing it.

I had to learn that when change comes, I can’t lose heart. I can’t throw in the towel and think that everything we were doing before was pointless and a complete waste of time.

There are steps in life, and these steps will take us from one place to another.

God will help us find the right steps to take as we wait on Him. And while we are waiting, He will teach us to be of good courage.

That means no grumbling, whining, being frustrated, or acting out in anger. Simply wait on Him with a right attitude. He will strengthen our hearts.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-28-15

Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV) 31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

Sometimes we need to just pull back, sit tight and do nothing. I know this sounds easy, right? But waiting is not easy. We are still doing something.

Sometimes it is the hardest “nothing” to do, especially if we have determination to want to fix things. Waiting can drive us crazy.

But it takes discipline and obedience to wait.

There will be times that God will say “WAIT! I’ve got it and I want to do it for you”.

One day I sat in my garage. I was having a hot flash, and was trying to cool off. We were getting ready to sell our home and move. It wasn’t what we wanted to do, but we thought it was the logical thing to do.

We were willing and ready. We had sold most all of our furniture. Everything had been set in motion. We prayed, we cried, we talked about this very thing several times to make sure it was what we needed to do. The steps were taken and the decision had been made.

As I sat there cooling off, I heard God’s voice out of nowhere. I wasn’t thinking about much at this time. I heard these words, “Won’t you let me help you? I want to do this for you”.

My response to this was, “but we’ve already made arrangements. The house is on the market and we are locked into an agreement. The place where we will be moving to soon, we’ve also signed an agreement with those people.” All He said was, “they will understand. Talk to them.”

I went back into the house, knowing I had to talk to my husband about what I had just heard. I thought “he is going to think I’m nuts”. We had been over and over this. I mean, selling the house and moving was the logical thing to do.

So I quietly shared my conversation that I had out in the garage, telling him all about it. He calmly said to me, “OK, let’s call the realtors first thing tomorrow”.

Years later, we are still here. All we can say is, it was God!

For us it was our home, but for you it may be something else. God wants to help us all. There will be times when we need to take action and do the logical thing. But then there will be times where we just need to wait and trust Him.

Will we wait on Him?

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-27-15

Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV) 31 But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

Waiting can be a hard thing to do. Nobody really likes waiting for anything, especially if we don’t know exactly how long the wait will be.

We like to know what’s going to happen, and when it’s going to happen. And, let’s face it, God doesn’t necessarily time things the way we’d like them to be timed.

But as we learn to wait on Him, things happen. We change.

We learn patience and we get to see ourselves in a new light. Sometimes that light isn’t very positive when we see who we really are and how we behave when things don’t go the way we think they should.

As we wait on God, we need to learn to listen and hear His voice. It’s imperative that we do this, since there will usually be things He will tell us or teach us while we wait. If we spend all of our waiting time griping, we’ll never hear or learn anything.

Conversely, if we spend all of our waiting time trying to figure everything out in our heads, with our own limited knowledge and understanding, we may make a move based on what we think is right, and completely miss what God had for us.

And, if we wait patiently and then we follow the path that God sets before us, only when He tells us to move, our strength will be renewed and we will not have wasted all of our time and effort making something happen ourselves that wasn’t meant to happen.

Wait on Him!

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-14-15

James 1:2-4 (NKJV) 2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

None of us likes to wait. Especially when it comes to waiting for God to move on our behalf.

And this is because when we’re waiting on God, we’re usually in the midst of a trial of some kind.

When everything is going well, we just cruise along, calm, cool and collected, with a smile on our face and our best traits out there for everyone to see.

But pressure situations have a tendency to show us what we’re really made of. When we’re squeezed, whatever’s inside will eventually come out. And sometimes that stuff isn’t pretty.

It’s then that we also get to see ourselves; the true us that we try so hard not to show anyone because it might tarnish our squeaky-clean reputation.

But as much as we hate trials and tough times, those are the times when God can shape us and mold us if we let Him. Having our backs against the wall forces us to do two things. First, we recognize how weak we are without Him. Secondly, it causes us to choose between trusting our own intellect or trusting God.

Let’s just say it’s where the rubber meets the road.

And it’s there in those very tough spots that God gets to show us His power and might, as He works in our lives, opening doors that man can never close and closing doors that man can never open.

So if we’re in a tough spot right now, it’s time to make a choice. Will we trust ourselves and hope that we can figure out a way out of the mess we’re in based on our own understanding? Or will we finally surrender and let God take the lead, and follow the steps He has for us?

Only we can choose.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-6-15

Genesis 6:13-14 (NKJV) 13 And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.

Make yourself an ark.

What a colossal assignment!

God told Noah that He was going to flood the earth and that Noah was to build an ark to save a few humans and a large group of animals. The destiny of these few people and all of those animals was in Noah’s hands.

God gave Noah very specific instructions about how the ark should be constructed, with regard to size, materials, etc. The only problem is that Noah had never seen anything like that before in his life. Yet this was his assignment.

As Noah obeyed God and set about this enormous task, he had to move ahead based solely on what he had been told. He had no working models to copy, no predecessors to ask for help and no experience as a shipbuilder.

But, being faithful and diligent, he moved ahead, one day at a time, until the ark was finished.

Noah is a great example for us all. Too many times we are given a task or a job to do, and we want it to be completed and come to fruition very quickly.

We need to let God stretch our faith and teach us how to trust Him, no matter what things look like on the surface, in the natural.

As we do this, He will strengthen us and give us rest when we’re weary, supplying us with exactly what we need to complete the job.

Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV) 31 But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

So if we are waiting on God, have been given a task or a job that seems impossible, or just plain don’t understand exactly what’s happening in our lives, trust Him and wait on Him. He will come through.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-28-15

Psalm 27:14 (NKJV) 14 Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!

We are going to be disappointed at times in life. We are going to feel angry, and we are going to have moments when we really want things to go our way, but yet it looks like they are going in a totally different direction.

We have all experienced those times when things don’t go the way we expected or the way they we planned.

The best way to handle it is to stay calm. We can’t react out of our emotions and what we see. Let God unfold it all the way.

Sometimes we are just seeing bits and pieces; we are not seeing the whole picture and we don’t know the whole plan.

Be patient and wait on God. Trust Him to work it out. It will be beautiful!! Amen
