Proverbs 15:4 (NKJV) 4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, But perverseness in it breaks the spirit.
Words.
We speak them by the thousands each day; many without consideration beforehand as to what their ramifications will be, what fruit they will bear.
As I have lived these 60+ years, I have learned more each day about the consequences of words; sometimes by the words I have spoken, and other times by the words spoken by others.
And in all this learning, one conclusion has become abundantly clear; words spoken in haste or based solely on emotion will seldom bear good fruit.
Often, those words can do great harm and result in irreparable damage, and many times death. It may not be death of the physical kind, but death, nonetheless.
Conversely, words spoken with contemplation and by God’s leading, words of love and truth, tempered by the Holy Spirit, bring healing and life.
The tongue is a great, untamed beast constrained only by the lips of its owner. It appears small but wields mighty power.
That power is ours to do with as we choose.
James states without apology that the tongue is untamable by man. And it is, in fact, an unruly evil that is full of poison.
James 3:8 (NKJV) 8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
Will you join me in allowing the Holy Spirit to help us tame our tongues?
