Tag: What the Bible says about spending time with God

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-10-24

Exodus 34:29 (LSB) 29 Now it happened when Moses was coming down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the testimony were in Moses’ hand as he was coming down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him.

When Moses came down the mountain and he approached the people of Israel, Aaron and the others were startled by what they saw.

They were afraid to come near him due to his face being radiant and bright.

Moses had just spent forty days on Mount Sanai, speaking and communing with God. The effects of this included the face of Moses glowing in a way that the others could not comprehend.

This was the invisible Spirit of God emanating from Moses in a visible manner. Because they had never witnessed anything like this, it caused them to stay at a distance, afraid to approach him.

This glowing radiance was the manifestation of God’s presence on Moses. He had been touched by God’s Spirit in a way that people could see. And it caused them to be fearful.

Moses assured them that everything was OK, and that there was nothing to fear. Then they approached him, and he spoke with them.

When we spend time with God, we change. It becomes visible in our lives.

It is impossible for us to spend time with Him and not be noticeably changed.

This is why it is critical for us to pull away, just as Jesus did, and be alone with Him.

We need the quiet time where we can speak to Him and listen for His voice, hearing what He wants us to hear, gaining His insights, His understanding, His peace, and His joy in our lives.

Without this, we will never know God in the way He desires us to know Him. And we will never grow and mature into who He wants us to be.

Make time each day to dig into His word, spend quiet time with Him, and learn of Him.

We may not visibly glow like Moses, but the impact on our lives will be visible in many ways.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-30-23

Isaiah 26:9 (NKJV) 9 With my soul I have desired You in the night, Yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early; For when Your judgments are in the earth, The inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

I like how he says he desires the Lord at night.

In the night it is very still. There are not a lot of other things pulling on our thoughts, and we can really focus.

This goes right along with seeking the Lord early in the morning, which is another time of the day when we are “still and peaceful” in our hearts and minds.

If you have ever gotten up before the birds or the other early-rising animals, you will understand how quiet it is.

Some of my most precious times with God have been early in the morning or the middle of the night. I get much revelation at those times.

It is in those hours that we can give Him our full, undivided attention. We can focus and get direction, answers, and be comforted by His Spirit in those areas that are troubling us.

Jesus got up early, before anything else was happening, and He went to a place where He was completely alone. And He prayed.

Mark 1:35 (NKJV) 35 Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.

Desire Him in the night hour when we have unwound from all our activities, and seek Him in the early morning. He will meet us there. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-21-21

Psalm 119:114 (NKJV) 114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.

When I need direction, or when I need to pull myself together, where do I go? To prayer and to His word. That is my hiding place in Him.

When do I find Him? When I take the initiative and shut down everything that is pulling me away from Him.

I shut out the gossipers, the downers and the blood suckers. I shut down my phone and all the buzz that comes through it. I shut out anything that takes up my time.

Then I am sure to find Him. He is always waiting for me, ready to help.

I love how He meets me right where I am, and knows just what I need all the time.

If you are missing your hiding place and you are feeling pretty weighed down, He is waiting for you too. His arms are open.

Shut down the things that are keeping you from meeting with Him. Go and empty your bucket and get yourself refueled with His Amazing love, strength and joy!

His Word will carry us through anything that we are facing.

Exodus 33:14 (NKJV) 14 And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-3-21

Psalm 5:3 (NKJV) 3 My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up.

How many days, weeks, or even months have gone by since He has heard our voice?

We don’t ask this question to bring guilt or shame in any way. We ask because we know how easy it is to run out of time in a day.

We know how easy it is to say “God, I’m going to pray every day and every evening”, only to realize we ran out of time during the day. Or we were caught up in something and forgot.

We know that it takes a lot of discipline and obedience to stop what we are doing and pray to the Lord.

Our lives can get very busy and it’s not always that easy to set time aside.

I remember when we were going through a season where the needs of people were so heavy and great that it began to interfere with my one-on-one time with God.

I began crying out to Him, “Lord help me to know how to get it back”.

My soul was longing for my time with Him, but the needs of others were taking so much out of me that I was feeling drained, with no time left to rebuild.

We have to have our time with Him. Don’t let the needs of others take it away from us.

In order for us to give to others, remember that we have to get with Him. He fills us with what we need.

Don’t get drained out. Remain full in Him.

Someone needs some fueling up today.

Stop, and drop at the feet of Jesus. You’re going to get burned out if you continue without refueling.

Exodus 33:14 (NKJV) 14 And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-24-18

Psalm 119:114 (NKJV) 114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.

Hiding in God can happen in two different ways. One, we hide in Him for protection from an attack. Two, we hide in Him for protection from distractions, and the things that try to pull us away from spending time with Him.

Hiding in God takes discipline. It means that we need to to pull away from all the things that the enemy may tempt us with. Every second of the day we have to be discerning and alert.

Why does the devil work so hard to distract us and to keep us busy so that we have no hiding time with God?

Because he knows the strength, discipline and focus we have when we spend time with God and in His word.

God is our shield. He protects us from the devil, his schemes and the plans that he has to attack us.

The devil has it out for us all. None of us are exempt from it, even if we are followers of Christ. We still have to watch out for and discern the attacks of the enemy.

The good news is that we have God on our side, and through Him we are more than conquerors! Amen.

Romans 8:37 (NKJV) 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

We can and we will get past these temptations that pull on us, and spend time with the Most High God.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-1-18 – Mary, Martha, Jesus and You

Please click to watch the video nowGreetings in the name of Jesus.

Have you ever been busy taking care of guests and then noticed someone else who isn’t helping at all?

Today’s video talks about this! We hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch it.

Mary invited Jesus to her house. Her sister, Martha, was also there. And while Martha scurried around tending to everything, Mary sat with Jesus, never lifting a finger to help. Let’s just say that Martha wasn’t very happy with her sister!

It’s good to know what Jesus said about this when Martha asked Him about it. So we hope you’ll give the video a watch.

Enjoy your day and be sure to love on those around you.

Sincerely in Christ,

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-16-16

Jeremiah 29:12 (NKJV) 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.

What an AWESOME Father we have, to know that we can call upon Him and He will listen.

Are we talking to Him today? Are we calling upon His mighty name and trusting Him for our answers?

God is ready and listening for our voice.

Our time with God will determine how our days, our month and our year will turn out.

Maybe today we’ve realized that we’ve gotten so busy that everything has been pulling on us and taking up all our time, causing us to stop talking with God.  It happens!

Fixing the problem can be as simple as putting on the brakes and getting back with Him. Tell Him we miss Him and we need His touch. Ask Him for forgiveness for getting so busy and to help get focused on those things that really matter.

Our lives can get way out of control and busy. There is no doubt. Sometimes we need to force ourselves to shut off our phone, turn off Facebook or the computer, shut our blinds and lock our doors and take the time we need and talk with Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-2-15

Psalm 5:3 (NKJV) 3 My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, and I will look up.

In these times that we live, distractions are many and seem to be multiplying as each month and year passes by.

There are so many things that pull on us and vie for our time and attention. TV, The internet, social media, electronic gadgets, smartphones, and so much more. Before we know it, our day has passed by us and we’re wondering where it went.

The moment we wake up each day, it’s easy to reach for our devices and begin typing, chatting, listening, watching, etc. And there goes our first few moments of the day, getting caught up in things that occupy our mind and take up our time.

It has become hard to put God first each morning. But that doesn’t mean we should stop trying. A little effort on our part will go a long way toward helping us to get, and keep, our priorities straight each day when we rise.

Throughout God’s word we see examples of God’s people, and even Jesus Himself, getting up early and pulling away into a quiet place, to spend some quiet time communing and talking with God. It’s during those quiet times of solitude that we can hear God the best.

Mark 1:35 (NKJV) 35 Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.

Some of us have a hard time waking up early. It just takes so much effort to wake up before everyone else in the house. But each and every one of us can do it, if we really try!

Now don’t get us wrong. Our quiet time with God doesn’t have to be first thing in the morning. But that is usually the easiest time for most people to separate themselves from the usual distractions and get alone with Him.

We challenge you today to rise up and set time aside for God each day. It doesn’t have to be a religious ritual, doing the very same thing every time. It can just be some time that we set aside each day to tuck ourselves away in a quiet place and sit, kneel or lay in God’s presence and communicate with Him in an intimate, personal way.

It’s good for us and nourishing to our spirit!

Go ahead. We dare you!
