Tag: What the Bible says about seeking God

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-6-22

Psalm 14:2 (NKJV) 2 The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.

Years ago, there was a song that was made popular on mainstream secular radio stations called, “From a Distance”.

The song talked about God looking down and watching us, from a distance.

I haven’t listened to secular radio for more than 25 years. But I had heard of this song when it was popular, and I despised it.

Why? Because it painted a picture of God as some aloof, uncaring figurehead who never interacted with humans, but simply watched from a distance in some strange, warm and fuzzy kind of way.

The truth is, though, that God loves and thrives on His relationship with us.

The verse above tells us that God does, in fact, look down upon us. But not in a disconnected sort of way.

He looks down upon “the children of men” (human beings). And this is where it gets interesting.

Why does He look down upon you and I? To see if there are any who understand, and who seek Him.

This is what God desires; that we seek Him, and that we get understanding about His ways.

And that is the core of our spiritual growth.

If we seek Him, and we get understanding, we will have no choice but to grow and mature.

As we grow and mature, what used to seem illogical and impossible to our human minds now becomes part of our everyday thinking and understanding.

And this blows the warm and fuzzy version of God right out of the water. Wouldn’t you agree?

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-27-22

Amos 5:4 NKJV) 4 For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: “Seek Me and live;

“Seek Me and Live” are words that we need to pay close attention to, and heed in our own lives.

God spoke these words to the nation of Israel centuries ago through the prophet, Amos. But they are still very relevant today.

It is our seeking after God that brings life to us. God is life, and it is through Him that we obtain life, both here on earth and for eternity.

These words are not a one-time occurrence. God urges us throughout His word to seek Him. This alone should show us the importance of what he is telling us to do.

And here’s the best part of this seeking endeavor; when we actually begin to seek Him, walking it out daily in our lives, we will begin to see the fruits of it.

Our heart will change. Our thinking will change. And, ultimately, our lives will change.

When we seek Him, and He begins to touch our lives, we can’t help but change.

So, we implore you today, that if you are not putting the time and effort into genuinely, wholeheartedly seeking Him, start doing so today.

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV) 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-15-22

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Amen.

This is a promise from God.

These words are for us to hold onto when things don’t look good around us, when financial setbacks hit home, when we get a bad test result, when our children begin to rebel or get on a wrong path or when our marriage starts to get rocky.

Remember, God is there for us as we seek Him and His kingdom first.

Worrying won’t do us a bit of good. Don’t fret. either. That will cause us to have anxiety, which leads to other health issues.

Seek God in the storm. Seek God in the valley, when things are low. Seek God when you are on the mountain, and shout out His goodness to all those that have ears to hear.

If we follow His words, we will walk in His promises. We are God’s children. And as we seek His kingdom, we will be OK. Hallelujah!

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-9-22

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV) 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Since we moved into our new home in North Carolina, back in late December, I’ve found myself being very busy every day.

Being the man of the home, there has been lots for me to do in the way of assembling and setting up furniture, desks and computers, as well as installing, mounting and hanging things like blinds, curtain rods, mirrors, etc.

Additionally, we have been learning a whole new area where we live, which adds to the challenge of moving.

All of this busyness presents a challenge when it comes to managing my time properly.

My walk with God comes first and foremost in my life, regardless of what else is happening. So, when I find myself getting too caught up in “household tasks”, I make sure to stay balanced, being sure to set aside the time to stay close to God as well.

You see, just like most things in life, we get out what we put in. This applies to our walk with God as well.

The more time and effort we give, the more the relationship will grow and flourish.

So, as we navigate this time of being very busy, and being pulled in a hundred different directions every day, we are also careful to stay accountable to God, not because we fear discipline or chastening, but because we treasure our walk with Him more than anything else and don’t want even a hint of separation between Him and us.

After all, He has assured us in His word that as we do our part, He will do His.

Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV) 3 ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-26-19

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV) 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

I love fishing. It’s part of who God made me. I’ve been doing it since I was very young, 6 or 7 years old. So, God not only made me a fisher of men, but also very much a fisherman.

As part of my passion for bass fishing, God also gave me the opportunity to take others out and help them catch fish by running a seasonal fishing guide service where we live. I get a lot of pleasure taking people out and teaching them the hows and whys of bass fishing.

But you see, God is infinitely wise. And in His infinite wisdom, He sometimes uses my time on the water with others as a place to share Him with the people in my boat. Most times it’s in very subtle ways, by me simply being a light to others.

But sometimes the door swings wide open for me to share things with people that meet them right where they’re at, and touch them very deeply, as only God can do, right where they need it.

Today was one such day.

I was guiding for a man that has fished with me on a few occasions in the past several years. Today he brought his wife and his sister-in-law with him.

At one point in our conversations, we began to discuss Biblical things. We shared some things back and forth, and that eventually led to various topics of discussion that were quite enjoyable.

As we continued, one of the ladies was nodding in agreement with some of what I was saying. And then suddenly she began to cry and share about how what I had said was exactly what she had been experiencing.

God read her mail, right there in my boat, in the middle of a lake, as we all casted and retrieved lures to try to entice bass to bite. In that moment, God touched her heart and moved her to tears, as she shared what she was struggling with.

You see, if we seek God, we will find Him. The thing is that we may not find Him where we thought we would.

If we allow Him to, He will find us at the very moment we need Him to, where we are, with no strings attached, no fanfare, no schedule and no special meetings.

God doesn’t need to be ushered in with our manmade routines and traditions. He just needs us to give Him the freedom to move.

So, right there in the middle of a lake, God moved. We “had church”. A heart was touched and a life was gently influenced by God’s spirit.

Church, let’s let God move where He needs to move and when He needs to move.

Let’s not tie his hands any longer, restricting Him to certain days of the week, certain times of the day or certain locations.

Seek Him and you will find Him, when you search with all your heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-16-17

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV) 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

How do we find God?

Many will make it seem like that’s the million-dollar question. Some will make God seem remote and mysterious; hard to find.

Some will write books with page upon page about how to find God. Others will preach lengthy, deep messages about how to find Him.

But God himself has told us how to find Him.

It’s very simple, really. It doesn’t require a professor, a philosopher, a priest or a prophet. It only requires one thing; a heart after God. A heart that longs to know Him.

God has promised that if we diligently seek Him, we will find Him.

Proverbs 8:17 (NKJV) 17 I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.

And God has told us in Hebrews 11:6 that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him!

There you have it. The answer, hidden in plain sight!

So, don’t let the enemy bring confusion. Don’t let people try to tell you how difficult it is to find God. And don’t let your mind convince you that finding God is difficult.

Seek Him and you will find Him!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-17-17

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

As followers of Christ, it’s important that we never forget who we are and Who we belong to.

We have a tendency to sometimes forget this. We like to think we’ve got it all together and don’t need anyone’s help; not even God’s help.

But this is completely wrong. This is a fatal mistake on the part of believers. We can reach a point where we become self-confident and feel like we can handle anything and everything on our own.

When that happens, we begin stepping out and doing things on our own, without even bothering to get with God first. This is where we get ourselves into trouble.

Jesus himself told us that we can do nothing without Him.

John 15:5 (NKJV) 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

We need to be cautious of starting to feel like we don’t need God any longer. Yes, He will equip us to do the things that He asks us to do. But we should always go to Him and lean on Him to accomplish those things.

When we reach a point of feeling like we no longer need Him, we are almost implying that we can take His place and do His job for Him. We become like little gods. Sound far-fetched?

It’s more common than we might think. And it can happen to anyone, if we get our priorities mixed up or listen to the wrong voices.

The Holy Spirit will always point us back to God… For everything. It doesn’t matter how big or how small the thing is that God wants us to do. God’s spirit will never, ever steer us away from God or His word, to someone or something else.

So, let’s be cautious and diligent to stay close to Him, seek Him in everything we do, and hold His word close to our hearts so He can remind us of it when we need Him to.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-8-17

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

God rewards those who diligently seek Him. This is something that we all need to understand. But we need to make sure we look at it with the correct perspective.

Many times we can get caught up in the rewards and spend our time seeking after them. But in reality, we need to seek after Him, and not worry about the rewards.

The rewards will come when we put Him first and put our time and energy into seeking Him and growing our relationship with Him first, before everything else.

Because we live in a materialistic world, many have gotten off the path and spent their time focusing on what we get if we follow after God. This is not at all what God intended. Yes, the rewards are good. But the close relationship with Him is so much better.

And if we’re seeking after Him solely for the rewards, then we’ve got things a bit mixed up. And seeking rewards will cause our relationship with Him to become twisted and performance-based. Again, this is not what God intended.

So we need to be sure that we are seeking God solely because we want to have a strong walk with Him, not for any other reason.

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Seek Him first. The rewards will take care of themselves.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-6-17

John 4:42 (NKJV) 42 Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.”

I love this! The fact that the people did not just take the woman at her word, but that they sought Him out and heard Him for themselves shows that they were hungry for the truth.

This is exactly what we, the church, need to do today!  We need to have Him in our lives, and moving day to day on a personal, one-on-one level.

We need to be seeing Him and watching Him move in our own situations. We need to lean on Him and cry out to Him to help us.

He will move in our own lives daily, hourly, minute by minute, when we hear His voice and we do what He tells us to do. Amen.

We believe for ourselves, not because someone told us to, but because we sought Him and found Him!

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-15-16

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV) 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Want to find God? Seek Him!

Many people have made a mystery out of finding God. It has been said by many that God is difficult to find. But most times the difficulty is only a perception, not a reality.

God is always there and always available. He doesn’t hide Himself or run from us when we seek Him.

On the contrary. God wants us to seek him!

He has made it clear in His word that if we seek Him, we will find Him. And if we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us.

James 4:8 (NKJV) 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

The key to it all is this: seeking Him with all our heart.

He wants us to seek Him. He desires that we push hard to grow our relationship with Him. And He rewards those who make the effort to do so.

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

So this is the “secret” to a stronger and more rewarding, fulfilling walk with God.

Seek Him and search for Him with all your heart. And you will find Him!
