Bible Verse of The Day – 9-1-16

Matthew 8:26 (NKJV) 26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.

What is the size of our faith? Are we very little in faith? Are we just doing enough to keep us content?

In order to grow our faith we have to take steps and sometimes those steps are very scary and uncomfortable. Sometimes the steps can make us angry and mad, because we like where we are at and we don’t want things to change.

But these are the very steps that bring humility. And the very steps that may challenge our own understanding and cause us to stand stronger in God’s promises.

They cause us to rely on Him, to seek Him for the next step and to follow Him in obedience. These steps cause us to look to Him when we are used to relying on ourselves. Ouch.

Whatever it is that God is calling us to do, we need to step out! Not on our own, but with Him beside us, guiding us and with us standing strong on His promise, His word.

Don’t step out thinking “we’ve got this”. Step out knowing that if it is what He is asking us to do, that He’s got this.

Matthew 14:29 (NKJV) 29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.

When Peter stepped out of the boat, He knew He did not have what it took to stand on that water. But He knew the One who DID!

Peter didn’t need to step out of the boat. If you’re on the water, being in the boat would seem like the logical place to be, right?

But if Peter never stepped out of what he may have thought was the best place to be at that moment, or if he never stepped out of his place of being content or feeling safe, he would never ever have experienced what real faith could do for him at that very moment.

How many today are in a safe place of contentment, thinking it’s the best place to be?

Is Jesus calling us to take a step of faith? Is He asking us to step out of that place of comfort and contentment and get a glimpse of His miraculous work, His Might, His Power and His FAITHFULNESS?

Are we stuck today in what we think is the best place for us to be? Are we missing out on seeing a miracle in our life?

This is not something we do on our own, out of presumption or based on emotion. Just as Jesus called Peter out, He will call, or prompt us, in His timing. And if He does, it will be personal and in a unique way.

It may be something small, or it may be something big. It may be something we’ve never even thought of doing. But if it is Jesus prompting us and asking us, let’s take that step of faith in Him. Watch Him move!

Let Him grow our faith today as He leads us to take steps in certain directions and areas of our lives.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-9-16

Job 19:25 (NKJV) 25 For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth;

Job went through some serious stuff! His entire life was turned upside down in less than 24 hours.

During that short period of time, he lost his children and all of his earthly possessions. The only thing he had left was his wife and a few friends. And even his wife and friends were no help to him as he went through his trials.

But despite the severe trials that Job faced and went through, he never lost his faith in God.

We always hear about the patience of Job, which is somewhat true. But even more than patience, Job had strong faith. Had he not had strong faith, he would have turned his back on God and walked away.

But even after everything he went through, Job could boldly say “I know that my Redeemer lives”.

Let Job be an example for all of us to follow in our own lives.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-8-16

Matthew 15:21-23(NKJV) 21 Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.” 23 But He answered her not a word.

How many of us feel like sometimes we ask God for help and we don’t hear or see anything happen or change?

We have to first know where our help needs to come from. If we are just trying it to see if it will work, there is no faith in that.

This Canaanite woman knew her mercy and help needed to come from Christ alone. At first He did not answer her. Not even a word.

What would we do at this point? Would we say, “Well, that didn’t work. Let me try something else”?

After He did not answer her, she didn’t get mad or give up. She didn’t try something else. No. She took the next step. She worshipped Him.

Matthew 15:25 (NKJV) 25 Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”

Not giving up and keeping a good attitude is ONE of the things we all need to learn to do. Answers aren’t always going to come in the way or in the timing that we think they should. It may take certain steps in getting our answer and we need to press in instead of walking away.

As soon as this woman showed Jesus that her faith and trust was in Him, her daughter was healed from that hour. From that HOUR! Woo hoo!

Matthew 15:26-27 (NKJV) 26 But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” 27 And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”

It was in her response and actions toward Him that He saw her faith. Maybe He is waiting to see our faith and how we will respond to Him today.

Matthew 15:28 (NKJV) 28 Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

May our response and our actions today show Him that our faith remains in Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-11-16

Romans 10:17 (NKJV) 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Today, let’s talk about how we grow our faith!

Without faith, we can’t believe God for anything at all. Period. And without faith, we can’t please God.

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

So it’s safe to say that faith is very, very important!

God has given each of us a measure of faith. It’s part of who we are as believers. None of us lacks faith.

Romans 12:3 (NKJV) 3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

What we do with that measure of faith is up to us.

We can hide it away. We can leave it alone. Or we can grow it.

Just like a muscle, faith needs to be fed and exercised in order to grow. So how do we grow our faith? How do we take that measure of faith that God has given us and make it bigger, so that living by faith becomes a way of life, instead of something that we struggle with?

We feed that faith with the only thing that can sustain it and grow it; God’s word.

God’s word is our food. It’s our sustenance. It’s what keeps us thriving, growing and maturing.

God’s word will take us from being spiritual infants to becoming mature adults in Christ. As we feed on His word, we will grow in our faith, and we will begin to see things differently. Things will start to “click” and we will begin to have a deeper understanding of spiritual things. And our walk with God will flourish!

The things of God will become the most important part of our lives as we spend time in His word and our faith grows.

And as our faith grows, we will find it easier to step out and do things that God asks us to do, without it having to always make sense to our logic and our intellect.

It’s kind of like our spiritual life is a chain made up of links, and our faith is the most important link. If our faith is weak, so will the chain be weak. But if our faith is strong, the whole chain will be strong!

And as our faith becomes stronger, God will give us new eyes, new ears and a new heart that will see, hear and beat with a desire to walk closely with Him and please Him in everything that we do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-7-16

Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) 11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

What is faith?

This is a question asked by millions around the world just about every day.

First, here’s what faith is not.

Faith is not hype.
Faith is not emotionalism.
Faith is not weird.
Faith is not flaky.

Here’s what faith is: Believing something in our hearts that our heads can’t comprehend or understand, and being perfectly OK with that.

By faith, we trust God with our eternal destiny. We believe that Jesus died for us, rose from the dead and ascended to heaven.

By faith we believe that our sins are forgiven, simply by putting our faith in Christ and asking to be forgiven. There is no special song and dance we need to perform. We ask. We believe. We receive.

We don’t even question any of these things until we start trying to figure them out or try to make sense of them with our intellect. Only then does our faith begin to falter.

Don’t try to figure it out. Don’t try to make sense of it. Don’t try to get it to fit into an intellectual mold.

Faith can’t be figured out with logic or reasoning. It doesn’t make sense to our heads and it can never, ever be made to fit into any kind of intellectual box or mold.

Faith. It is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-6-16

Numbers 13:17 (NKJV) 17 Then Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan…

The Israelites had been wandering in the desert for many years. As they encamped close to the land that God had promised them, Moses commanded some of the men to go and spy out the land.

So Caleb and others went and did as they were told. And then they returned with their report.

The fruit was larger than anything they had ever seen. The land truly flowed with milk and honey. The land was just as God had promised.

But some of them reported a problem. The cities were fortified and very large. And the people who dwelt there were extremely large in stature… giants. The Israelites saw themselves as grasshoppers in their own site when compared to these men. They were all very fearful and thought it best not to invade this land.

They saw things through eyes of fear.

But Caleb spoke up and told them that they could very well go in and possess the land!

Numbers 13:30 (NKJV) 30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”

Caleb saw things through eyes of faith. And he was one of the people who was eventually able to go in and possess the land. While those who doubted never entered in.

There will be times when God asks us to do something that appears to be impossible if we look at it through natural eyes and intellect.

Caleb and Joshua were able to go in and possess the land because they had faith. They trusted God and His promise to them.

This is a great lesson for all of us. When God asks us to do something that seems impossible in the natural, will we have faith enough to trust Him and do what He asks?

How will we see things? Through eyes of fear or eyes of faith?

A great question for us to ponder on today 🙂

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-17-16

Romans 1:17 (NKJV) 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

The closer we get to God, the more faith we will have when He asks us to take certain steps. Our faith will grow and become stronger and stronger as we spend time with Him.

The just shall live by faith. Who are the just?

The just are His children; those who have put their faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. We are the just and this is what we should live by…faith.

Everyone is at a different place in their walk with God. He will show us what steps we need to take at different times in our lives.

We can’t take your steps for you and you can’t take ours for us. God will show us individually what He wants us to do and it’s up to us if we want to step out in faith and do it or not.

Sometimes these steps can be very hard. Sometimes they may even seem almost unbearable. But if we trust in God to see it through we will be so grateful that we took the steps He asked us to take.

If you feel like God is leading you today to take a step of faith in an area of your life, make sure it’s Him. And if it is, then step out. Don’t be afraid. He will walk with you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-9-16

Hebrews 11 (NKJV) 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Faith is the substance of things HOPED for. Are you hoping for something today? I think maybe we all are hoping for something, whether for ourselves, someone we love, or someone we know that is in trouble or in need.

But hoping is not enough. We need faith.

If we have faith, it doesn’t have to be “huge” faith. It can be very small faith, but it has to be there. And may I add, every situation is different.

For instance, sometimes we look at a situation and our faith is strong. Sometimes we look at a situation and our faith is just barely there. But at least it’s there!!

Hoping won’t do us much good without FAITH. Faith is the substance of the things we hope for!

When my dad was sick in the hospital, when he first went in, my faith was strong. As different situations arose with his health, and the attempts they needed to make to fix him up got more and more painful for him, it started to show me my faith was weakening. Why was this?

It was my ears. They were causing my faith to change because of the things I was hearing.

Romans 10:17 (NKJV) 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

If we want to have faith we have to be listening to the right words. God’s word will speak FAITH right into our little bitty hearts during the toughest or most tragic times.

I needed to get my eyes and ears off my natural father and the doctors report and get tuned in to what my Heavenly Father was saying.

And how many know that when you are in a hard trial, sometimes you hear NADA. That is, “NOT a WORD.” But as long as you keep looking to God, those silent moments show us our faith.

So I have learned we don’t need “big” faith. We just have to have “some” faith that God can work with.

Stay open and listen to what He is saying to our hearts.

What are we hoping for today? Do we have faith that God can do it?

Matthew 17:20 (NKJV) 20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-3-16

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Walking by faith can change a person. It can show us things inside of us that we probably had never seen before.

It can show us how maybe at times we thought we were walking by faith, but when what we were believing for doesn’t happen the way we thought it would, we realize that maybe we were actually walking in presumption.

This is a hard thing to swallow and can be very humbling. Because what it shows us is that we really weren’t hearing from God, but from our own desire or will.

We have all been here at one time or another and the best way to fix it is to humble ourselves before God and ask Him to show us His plan, without letting our own thoughts, desires and anxieties get in the way.

He will show us and help us fix whatever mess we get into as we humbly come to Him and admit we need His help.

Psalm 30:10 (NKJV) 10 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me; Lord, be my helper!”

Walking by faith takes time, experiencing and learning. We are not going to be perfect at it, but as we remain teachable, we will learn.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-14-15

Galatians 5:26 (NKJV) 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Envy. It’s something we’re warned against many times throughout the word of God.

But there seems to be more envy in the church today than there has ever been. Some of this is due to the ways of the world creeping into our lives. There are so many “shiny objects” that try to catch our attention.

Technology has given rise to so many things that are fun to use and grab our attention. If we’re not careful, we can lust after things and envy those around us who have the latest and the greatest stuff.

There’s also a teaching in the church that has increased envy in the body of Christ. It’s called the prosperity gospel.

The prosperity message infers that God wants us all to be extremely wealthy. It teaches that the word of God shows us how, if our faith is strong, we can do things that will cause money to be attracted to us.

This is heresy. Yes, God wants us to have strong faith. Yes, God wants us to learn to walk by faith in every aspect of our lives. And, no, God doesn’t want us to live in debt or poverty. Debt is a form of slavery.

But no, He does not intend for all of us to walk in some sort of “super faith” that causes money to be attracted to us. Because, in reality, this teaching isn’t really about faith. It’s about presumption and poor choices.

So many times we hear that we should just “take that step of faith” and buy something or make a major decision in our lives, because God can’t bless us if we don’t exhibit faith.

This is dangerous, since it never really teaches the difference between faith and presumption.

Faith causes us to move because God has told us to do so. Presumption will cause us to move and hope that God will clean up the mess if our choice was a mistake, because God had never told us to move to begin with.

Move carefully. Seek God in every choice that is made. We can’t let presumption replace faith.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-21-15

Luke 8:25(NKJV) 25 But He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!”

Why does It seem like when we are looking for something to happen, nothing happens? But when we least expect it, things happen?

A lot of times when we are looking for something to happen, we have reached a point where we are in need. If it doesn’t happen then we start worrying.

We can get so worried about things at times, we don’t know what or how to pray. Worrying can open the door to letting fear and doubt come waltzing right in.

Where is our faith today?

It’s when we rest, when we keep moving along, doing what we know to do, not wondering, not looking, just taking one day at a time that our faith seems to “work” the best.

Thank God today for where we are at. He’s holding us. He’s watching out for us.

He knows if and when a change needs to be made. He will be right there with us!

Amen.
