Bible Verse of The Day – 11-4-13

Acts 16:23-25 (NKJV) 23 And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. 24 Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.

Paul and Silas were in prison. Not only were they in prison, but they had been thrown into the inner-most parts of the prison, just to be sure they wouldn’t escape.

Now, prior to being thrown into the deepest, darkest parts of the prison, Paul and Silas had been beaten and whipped. They were not in very good shape at this point.

But look at what these verses say that they did, after receiving beatings and being put in stocks to keep them secure. They prayed and sang hymns to God! And the other prisoners heard them singing!

Do you feel like you’ve been beaten and thrown into prison? Do you have heavy burdens on you right now? Are your going through struggles in your life? I think that every one of us can answer yes to this in one way or another.

So the question now is this; how are we handling our “time in the inner prison”? Are we having a pity party? Are we whining to everyone about how bad off we are? Do we want the whole world to know about our situation, with the hope that someone will bail us out?

Or are we praying and singing hymns to God, praising Him and thanking Him for who He is?

We could expound further on this and talk about what happened to Paul and Silas next, and how they won a great victory, but we want to stop right here and let God’s Spirit work on each and every one of us.

Are we whining or are we winning?

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-25-13

Ephesians 6:11 (NKJV) Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Most times, when we hear any kind of teaching on this scripture, we always hear about the armor and how we’re supposed to be sure to wear it.

Today, though, let’s look at why we’re supposed to wear that armor; to be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Notice that God never says that we will be immune to trials? Not at all. Instead, He equips us and prepares us to be able to withstand the attacks of the enemy, and come out victorious!

We need to be careful as to who we listen to when it comes to this topic. Too many people want to hear that we will never have to go through trials and hard times, and because of that, there are too many teachers out there who are willing to accommodate them. Beware of these teachers!

So, as believers, we need to understand our armor and how it works, and know that we need to wear it if it is going to protect us!

God has provided us with everything we need to withstand and win in life’s battles. Let’s do our part and use the tools we’ve been given!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-13-13

Revelation 12:11 (NKJV) And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb.

Who is this “him” that they overcame? The enemy of our soul, the devil.

The devil roams the earth, seeking whom he can devour (1 Peter 5:8). Because he came to steal, to kill and to destroy (John 10:10). There is no good in him. He is darkness.

So how do we overcome our most deadly adversary? By the blood of The Lamb and by the word of our testimony!

It’s critical for us to understand that we cannot defeat the devil by natural means. No amount of intellectualism or worldly knowledge can defeat him. But we do have the weapon(s) that we need to overcome him once and for all.

It’s the blood of Jesus. By shedding His blood and giving His life on the cross, Jesus defeated death, hell and the grave once and for all.

And the word of our testimony… what does that mean? It means that we need to be speaking words of life and hope, not death and despair. Our words need to reflect the hope that we have in Jesus. As we speak words of life, we literally drive the enemy back from our presence.

Jesus taught that He came so that we could have life and have it more abundantly. He is and has supplied us with all that we need to have victory in our lives.

We don’t have to live life as a defeated warrior. Let Jesus teach you how to have victory in your life today.
