Bible Verse of The Day – 6-25-14

James 1:19 (NKJV) So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;

Words.

If you’ve been on our mailing list for any length of time, you know that we teach about the power of our words fairly often.

Our words are very powerful. They impact the people who hear them, whether we speak them directly to someone or they happen to overhear them.

Most times we tend to speak whatever comes to mind in just about any situation.

But we have learned over the years that this can, most times, be a bad thing. It can lead to hurt feelings, damaged relationships and some serious heartache. And the repercussions from misspoken words can last for years, or even decades.

We need to choose our words carefully. We need to think before we speak. And we should never, ever speak out of anger. Anger only lasts a while, but the consequences of words spoken while we’re angry can last a lifetime.

So if we’re angry, we need to take some time to cool down before we address a situation or speak about something that resulted in our anger.

And when we open our mouth to speak, we need to be oh so careful that the words we’re about to say are words that will be pleasing to God, and not just to let off steam, spout off our opinions or express our frustration.

Let’s learn to be quick to hear, slow to anger and slow to speak. And if we can learn this, our lives and the lives of those around us will be so much better.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-1-13

Proverbs 15:1 (NKJV) A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Our words, and the way we use them, can have a huge effect on our lives and the lives of those around us.

Sometimes it’s so easy to speak words that are harsh or hurtful. But kind words will bring forth much more fruit.

As a person who likes everything to be done a certain way, I have to catch myself on many occasions, before I speak, to make sure that what I am about to say is said with the right words and the right tone!

It can be so easy for us to lash out at people when we’re angry, and many times the people we’re angry at might even deserve it. But that doesn’t give us the right to do so.

It’s good for us to learn how to have mercy and compassion toward those around us, and try to administer that mercy and compassion to the very people that anger us. Words spoken in love and kindness can break through into the hearts of people, whereas harsh or angry words will only stir up more animosity.

After all, God shows us mercy and compassion when we’ve done wrong. Why shouldn’t we do the same?

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-15-13

(James 3:8-10 NKJV)  But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. {9} With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. {10} Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

What legacy will we leave?

When we have breathed our last breath, what will be left behind to remind people that we were here on this earth? When they remember us, what will they think of?

This is not a morbid message about dying. It’s a message about living!

Each day we speak words. We speak lots of them. Some of us, depending on our personality, might speak more or less words than others. But at the end of the day. we’ve still spoken lots and lots of words!

What we say to others can sow seeds of love, kindness, compassion, forgiveness… God’s qualities, or they can sow seeds of bitterness, strife, anger, hatred… the fruits of the enemy of our soul.

(Proverbs 18:21 NKJV)  Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Words can seem so insignificant, but they truly have the power to bring life or bring death. And we need to remember that once words are spoken, they can never be taken back.

Let’s make a decision to choose our words very wisely, regardless of who they are being spoken to.

Our words bring life or death. Speak words of life!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-23-12

(James 3:10 NKJV)  Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

How many of us can praise God in the morning when we wake up and shortly after that something happens to cause us to say something we know we shouldn’t be saying?

This stuff irritates me to no end, because it is so hard at times to stop in the middle of saying something. It’s like once it gets rolling it’s hard to turn it off. So, we have to try that much harder to not let it get rolling.

We have to catch it when it is still a thought. Do you remember your mom or dad telling you when you are growing up, you need to think before you speak? I remember especially when it was all said and done, and I was getting a lecture over what I just did. Whew…how many times did we have to hear this one?

We all struggle with this and it’s not easy. But, I will say that God is even pleased with our efforts in trying to do the right thing. If we fail and say or do it wrong, we need to repent and work at getting it right next time. That is what God is looking for… our effort in trying to do what is right.

Keep working it! It will get easier.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-4-12

(Prov 16:24 NKJV)  Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

Wherever we go today and whatever we do, let our words be tempered. Think carefully about the words we choose to say before we speak.

Words are very powerful. If we are amongst those that are having a heated conversation, it’s OK to take time to think about what it is we need to say before we say anything. We always want to help the situation and not hurt it.

We can’t  be so  eager to say whatever comes to mind at the moment; we need to think it through. Saying the right words at the right time can turn a situation around quickly.

God will help us with this as we pull back and surrender our words to Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-8-12

(Prov 18:21 NKJV)  Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

We have power in our words. We can build up. We can tear down.

Have you ever said something and then immediately wished you could take it back? I know I have. This is something we all stumble on sometimes.

Our words may not literally kill someone, but they can rob people of their joy, take away their encouragement and kill their hope. I can bet that every single one of us has had this happen to us at one time or another. It never feels very good, does it?

But guess what. We can also use our words to lift someone up, bring them joy and speak life into their situation.

God has given us the ability to use words to pick people up when they’re down. We can encourage them when they’re disappointed and we can give them hope when they’re depressed.

This might seem like something very small at first, but if we look at the impact we can have on those around us, day after day, it’s a pretty major thing!

Let’s choose our words wisely, bring life to people and bring glory to God!
