Tag: renewing our minds in Christ

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-30-13

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

The renewing of your mind. What is that anyway?

It’s the key to our walk with God and how He can use us in this world we live in.

As followers of Christ, our minds shouldn’t be the same as they were before we knew Him. Our old minds used to think a certain way. They processed carnal thoughts and had no idea about spiritual things.

We functioned solely by intellect and logic. But that was before we knew the truth. Now that we have embraced the Truth, our minds have been renewed, just as we have become new creations in Christ.

So what does that mean? It means that we should now be led by God’s spirit, not by our carnal, intellectual or logical thoughts. It means that everything we do should be gaged by whether it lines up with what God says or not.

This doesn’t mean that we throw out common sense, but it does mean that sometimes God will have us say or do things that just don’t make sense to your heads. Sometimes He will have us do things that people will look at us a little funny for doing, because it won’t make sense to them.

But that’s OK. If our minds have been renewed and we are following God’s leading, we don’t need to worry about what others think.

It’s what God thinks that truly matters.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-25-13

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Today I was asking God about some things. One of those things was how Christians, believers, followers of Christ, can keep themselves from sin after they have been saved.

It’s easy to say that we want to stop sinning. And it’s easy to say that we won’t commit a particular sin anymore. But when push comes to shove, it can be a difficult thing to turn away from temptation, especially if it’s something that we have struggled with in the past.

When I asked Him about this, I heard very loudly and clearly, “by the renewing of your mind”. It is by the renewing of your mind that you defeat these temptations and gain victory over them!

You see, we can have a relationship with our Creator and we can study His word. But until we let Him renew our mind, we are still thinking the same old thoughts!

Renew: to make (something) new, fresh, or strong again

There is nothing in this world that can renew our minds. We can follow all kinds of self-help methodologies, but when it’s all said and done, we still have the same mind with the same thought processes.

But when we let God renew our mind, it is made new and fresh! It isn’t prone to think the same thoughts any longer. It is absolutely, genuinely new.

So if you’re struggling with how to overcome something that keeps attacking your mind, stop trying to handle it on your own and let God fix it for you. His thoughts are far above ours.
