Proverbs 2:10-11 (NKJV) 10 When wisdom enters your heart, And knowledge is pleasant to your soul, 11 Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you…
Today we’re going to continue to look at wisdom and its benefits.
As we mentioned yesterday, God wants all of us to have wisdom. And, in fact, He has told us in His word to ask for it, and He will give it.
Why is wisdom so important? What benefits does wisdom give us? Here’s what His word says.
A – As we gain wisdom, we also gain discretion. And His word says that discretion will preserve us. It will protect us and keep us from making foolish choices and decisions.
B – Verse 11, above, also tells us that having wisdom gives us understanding. And understanding will keep (protect & shield) us.
What will it protect and shield us from? Check out verses 12 – 17 for a list of some of the things we will be protected from if we have wisdom and use it in our day to day lives.
Proverbs 2:12 To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse things…
Wisdom will deliver us (set us free from) the way of evil.
Proverbs 2:13 From those who leave the paths of uprightness To walk in the ways of darkness;
It will also protect us from those who walk in darkness, and from those who speak perverse (unreasonable, unacceptable) things, those who rejoice in doing evil, those whose ways are crooked (unethical, immoral) and those who are devious (using underhanded tactics) in their paths.
Proverbs 2:14-15 Who rejoice in doing evil, And delight in the perversity of the wicked; 15 Whose ways are crooked, And who are devious in their paths;
Wisdom will deliver us from the immoral woman (or man), the seductress (or seducer), those who are given to perverse sexual practices (adultery, fornication, etc.) and forsake the one they are avowed to, even forgetting their covenant with God.
Proverbs 2:16 – 17To deliver you from the immoral woman, From the seductress who flatters with her words, 17 Who forsakes the companion of her youth, And forgets the covenant of her God.
As we can see, the benefits of wisdom are many! And the list of things and people it protects us from is far-reaching.
And, do you know what else? This is just a very tiny list of reasons why we should ask God for wisdom.
So seek God, ask Him for wisdom. And as He gives it liberally, we can enjoy its benefits, keeping our feet on the path that God has set them on.
Amen.
