Bible Verse of The Day – 9-14-16

Psalm 46:10 (NKJV) 10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Being still is one of the hardest things any of us will ever be told to do by God.

You would think that sitting still would be easy. You know; just sit there and don’t move. But that is really hard for most of us to do.

Why? Because our minds like to try to figure things out. We like to know what’s going to happen. We don’t like surprises or the unknown. We like to be in charge.

For some of us, we just have a hard time waiting. We know something is coming. But we don’t know how or when. And it makes us antsy; we can’t sit still. Some of it is due to excitement. Some of it is due to not knowing what else to do. So we just want to move… do something!

But this is where we’re tested. This is what can make or break some of us. This is where we learn how to listen and obey God’s voice, even when it might seem like we’re not hearing anything.

But it’s while we’re sitting still, not moving and not saying anything, that we really start to see God move and Hear Him speak. And it might not happen in the time frame that we’d like it to.

But that’s OK. Because we’re not the ones in charge. He is.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-1-16

Matthew 8:26 (NKJV) 26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.

What is the size of our faith? Are we very little in faith? Are we just doing enough to keep us content?

In order to grow our faith we have to take steps and sometimes those steps are very scary and uncomfortable. Sometimes the steps can make us angry and mad, because we like where we are at and we don’t want things to change.

But these are the very steps that bring humility. And the very steps that may challenge our own understanding and cause us to stand stronger in God’s promises.

They cause us to rely on Him, to seek Him for the next step and to follow Him in obedience. These steps cause us to look to Him when we are used to relying on ourselves. Ouch.

Whatever it is that God is calling us to do, we need to step out! Not on our own, but with Him beside us, guiding us and with us standing strong on His promise, His word.

Don’t step out thinking “we’ve got this”. Step out knowing that if it is what He is asking us to do, that He’s got this.

Matthew 14:29 (NKJV) 29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.

When Peter stepped out of the boat, He knew He did not have what it took to stand on that water. But He knew the One who DID!

Peter didn’t need to step out of the boat. If you’re on the water, being in the boat would seem like the logical place to be, right?

But if Peter never stepped out of what he may have thought was the best place to be at that moment, or if he never stepped out of his place of being content or feeling safe, he would never ever have experienced what real faith could do for him at that very moment.

How many today are in a safe place of contentment, thinking it’s the best place to be?

Is Jesus calling us to take a step of faith? Is He asking us to step out of that place of comfort and contentment and get a glimpse of His miraculous work, His Might, His Power and His FAITHFULNESS?

Are we stuck today in what we think is the best place for us to be? Are we missing out on seeing a miracle in our life?

This is not something we do on our own, out of presumption or based on emotion. Just as Jesus called Peter out, He will call, or prompt us, in His timing. And if He does, it will be personal and in a unique way.

It may be something small, or it may be something big. It may be something we’ve never even thought of doing. But if it is Jesus prompting us and asking us, let’s take that step of faith in Him. Watch Him move!

Let Him grow our faith today as He leads us to take steps in certain directions and areas of our lives.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-25-16

Exodus 4:19 (NKJV) 19 Now the Lord said to Moses in Midian, “Go, return to Egypt; for all the men who sought your life are dead.”

It’s funny how God will sometimes pull us out of something, only to bring us back in at another time.

We have to know that God knows man’s heart, their plans and agendas. Sometimes He may have to do a work in that person or situation and He needs us to be out of the picture for a while, for whatever reason.

It’s not up to us to question Him. It’s up to us to listen and follow, even when we don’t understand it.

Maybe down the road when things have worked their way out, and change has come, the time may come when it is safe for us to go back around.

In this case, Moses’ enemies had all died and it was now safe for him to return.

God knows the heart of man. He knows the agenda that may lie within them and He doesn’t want us to get hurt. He wants us safe and protected.

Remember that He knows better than we do in everything. Let Him direct us in and out of positions, places and situations.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-14-16

Isaiah 12:2 (NKJV) 2 Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For Yah, the Lord, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’”

I will trust and not be afraid!

Trust can be very fragile sometimes. It takes time to build trust in someone or something. And sometimes things can happen that causes our trust to falter.

With God, though, we don’t ever have to worry about Him breaking our trust. He is trustworthy in absolutely everything. He will never fail us or let us down.

There will be times when we might be disappointed in how something turns out, but that should never cause us to lose our trust in Him. We just have to know that no matter what happens in our lives, we are secure in Him. And when tough times do come, He will walk us through them.

Many of us say we trust Him but when things get tough or hard to understand, we turn our backs and rely on our own understanding. This can happen to just about anyone, regardless of our spiritual maturity. But as we grow in Christ, the likelihood of it happening decreases as we learn to see things through different eyes and from a different perspective.

Our trust in Him should never be based on the conditions or circumstances in our lives. Many times, we are where we are due to choices we’ve made at some point. And even if things befall us that we think we had no fault in, we still need to keep our trust in Him strong and not let doubts creep in and steal our faith.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

So no matter what comes along, keep trusting Him. Don’t let the enemy of your soul convince you otherwise.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-17-16

Psalm 20:7 (NKJV) 7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.

The Lord God will help us through things that we would otherwise never make it through. He is Faithful to pick us up and brush us off, and step by step show us how to get on track and start over.

We can try to do it on our own. He won’t stop us or force us. We can put our trust in all kinds of different things, but there is no ONE like the Lord our God.

1 Samuel 2:2 (NKJV) 2 “No one is holy like the Lord, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.

He is our rock!

Those other things that try to take His place will bring GREAT disappointment to us.

It is in the Lord our God that we will put our trust and walk in His victory!! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-6-16

Numbers 13:17 (NKJV) 17 Then Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan…

The Israelites had been wandering in the desert for many years. As they encamped close to the land that God had promised them, Moses commanded some of the men to go and spy out the land.

So Caleb and others went and did as they were told. And then they returned with their report.

The fruit was larger than anything they had ever seen. The land truly flowed with milk and honey. The land was just as God had promised.

But some of them reported a problem. The cities were fortified and very large. And the people who dwelt there were extremely large in stature… giants. The Israelites saw themselves as grasshoppers in their own site when compared to these men. They were all very fearful and thought it best not to invade this land.

They saw things through eyes of fear.

But Caleb spoke up and told them that they could very well go in and possess the land!

Numbers 13:30 (NKJV) 30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”

Caleb saw things through eyes of faith. And he was one of the people who was eventually able to go in and possess the land. While those who doubted never entered in.

There will be times when God asks us to do something that appears to be impossible if we look at it through natural eyes and intellect.

Caleb and Joshua were able to go in and possess the land because they had faith. They trusted God and His promise to them.

This is a great lesson for all of us. When God asks us to do something that seems impossible in the natural, will we have faith enough to trust Him and do what He asks?

How will we see things? Through eyes of fear or eyes of faith?

A great question for us to ponder on today 🙂

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-27-16

John 15:16 (NKJV) 16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

If we allow God to have control over our lives… He will!

He will appoint us and we will bear fruit. He will open doors for us to walk through, even if we don’t know how to do it. He will show us and our fruit will remain!

Many years ago, there was a job listing in the local newspaper for office work. I had no experience in this field. I had very little typing experience, no communication skills, and only basic computer skills. But I knew I needed to go after this job.

The first thing they asked me was “can you type?”. I had been practicing with a computer typing tutorial recently, so I said yes, thinking that I would get better, the more I did it.

Well, immediately after asking me this, they sat me down and gave me a typing test.

As I sat down to take the test, my hands were shaking. I was so nervous.

I prayed, “God, I’m here where I feel you wanted me to come, now I need your help”. I took the test and when I was done, she looked at me and said “good enough”, and hired me on the spot. It was a position in a big beautiful office, for someone who had very little when it came to office skills.

I started out as the secretary and it wasn’t long before I was reconciling huge financial accounts.

My work skills grew quickly and I fit in nicely. My boss would say to me at times, “you puzzle me. There are many things you don’t have any experience in, but yet you can do this job fine”.

When God appoints us to do a job, He will give us the knowhow if we rest in Him.

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Don’t you dare give up! If you are in a place where you know you belong but you’re not sure how to do the job fully, ask anything of Him and He will help.

Hang in there. Keep your chin up and your eyes on Him, and you will bear FRUIT and your fruit will remain! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-18-16

Philippians 4:6 (NKJV) 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

This is a topic we tend to cover quite frequently. And there’s a good reason for that.

Each and every one of us goes through trials and hard times. It doesn’t matter if it’s a financial trial, a health problem, a relationship crisis or anything else that might come along that’s difficult.

Whatever it is, it can cause us to become scared, anxious and overwhelmed if we get our focus on the problem instead of the One who can help us through that problem.

When we focus solely on the obstacle we’re facing, it makes that obstacle seem much bigger than it really is. Why? Because if that’s all we’re looking at, we can’t see anything else.

And as we focus on that obstacle, we begin to worry. And the more we worry, the bigger that problem grows in our minds. And before we know it, we have blown it so far out of proportion that it seems insurmountable.

Now we’re not only anxious, we’re also consumed with worries. And as we worry more, we begin to conjure up all kinds of possible scenarios in our minds as to how this might all turn out. And each new scenario gets worse and worse.

Worrying never, ever helps us. Not a single little bit.

Matthew 6:27 (NKJV) 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

So let’s stop focusing on the obstacle or the problem and focus on the One who holds us in His hand and has the answer to every problem we face.

We need to put Him first in everything. He comes before our problems. He comes before our concerns. He comes before our triumphs.

Be anxious for nothing!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-7-16

1 Peter 5:6-7 (NKJV) 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Learning how to cast our cares on Him can sometimes be a bit difficult. We’re so used to doing everything ourselves, that handing it off to God requires retraining our minds a bit.

But it’s truly important that we learn how to do this, to cast our cares upon Him, if we are to learn to walk and live by faith.

There will be days when doing this is a breeze. Then there will be days when it seems like we just can’t let go of our troubles and our worries and give them to Him.

But we’re here to tell you today that casting our cares on God is the best way, no matter how hard it might seem to be.

It’s the way that shows our faith and teaches us to trust Him with everything about our lives. And it’s also the way to lower our stress levels, as we learn to let God handle those things that we thought we had to carry ourselves.

Trials come. It’s part of life here on earth. They can be painful. There’s no doubt about it. And sometimes it might seem like they will never end.

But they will end. They will cease and we will have victory. And while we’re going through those trials, that’s the time when we learn to cast our cares upon Him and let Him carry those things that weigh us down.

Take a step today and do this. Do what God has told us to do. He knows what’s best for us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-22-16

1Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV) 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Today, I want to take a few minutes and thank God for something that happened last week.

We got a call while eating lunch one day recently. It was my sister. She said to me, “our brother just fell 15 – 20 feet out of a tree and he landed on a stone wall. They are rushing him to RI hospital.”

We all know in this area that if someone goes to RI hospital, it’s a serious situation.

As we raced off to the hospital, the only words that could come out of my mouth were, “Oh God, Oh God, Oh God”.

When we arrived at the hospital, we found him being prepared to have a tube inserted into his side, to drain air and fluid from his chest cavity. He had several broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a liver laceration, and a bruised lung.

I got a text message on my phone during that time from someone that knew nothing about the accident and it read, “sometimes all it takes is just one prayer to change everything”. It couldn’t have come at a better time.

Thankfully, there was no damage to his spine or his brain. Considering his fall and what could have happened, they said he was “very lucky”.

He went into the hospital on a Thursday afternoon, into the Intensive Care Unit of the Trauma Center, and was released that Sunday afternoon. Just 3 short days later.

I wouldn’t call that luck. It was only God and His faithfulness!

My brother is driving now, moving around pretty good and getting things done.

We believe that prayer is so powerful, even if it is just “Oh God”. He knows!!

1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NKJV) 17 pray without ceasing…

Today, take a break and spend it with God. Love on Him and thank Him. Let Him know how much we appreciate Him. And if there is an “Oh God prayer”, let it out. It’s good enough. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-21-16

Philippians 4:11 (NKJV) 11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:

Comparing our lives with others can cause us to miss things God is doing for us in the state or place that we are currently in.

Maybe we want what others have more than what God has for us, even though He knows what is good for us.

For instance, if we hear of someone getting a pay raise at their job and we think, “boy we could sure use that right about now. Why do they get it and we are sitting here suffering?”. Or someone we know just gets a new house, or new car and we think, “I wish that was me. I’ve been praying for years and I’m still in the same place”.

This is comparing what we have to what someone else has and we have no idea what they went through to get to that point. Maybe they also prayed for years and went through some serious struggles to get there. Only God knows.

Everyone is in a different place. Some are in a season of feast and some are in a season of famine. And some are in between.

It can be very hard if we are in the time of famine and watching others going through the feast season. But know that as we remain content with our own lives and be thankful for what we do have and where we are at, our feast will come as well. Especially if we keep the right attitude.

God brings breakthrough and answered prayers at different times to each one of us, as we trust Him, believe and keep focused with the right attitude.

Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV) 5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

If we struggle with keeping the right attitude, ask God to help. It’s not an easy thing to go through on our own. Being content in some seasons takes work, effort and learning to look at things in a whole new light. It doesn’t necessarily come naturally.

It takes constant trust and accountability to God.
