Bible Verse of The Day – 8-11-20

Numbers 13:30 (NKJV) 30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”

Caleb saw things through his faith in God. The others were looking at it through their own eyes; their own abilities.

We get into trouble when we try to do things on our own.

We need to make sure that when we attempt to do the things that God brings before us, we do them in His wisdom, strength, and timing.

He will not leave us to do things on our own. He will make sure He is right there with us.

Will we see it only being done through our own strength? Or will we let Almighty God help deliver to us that which He has promised?

Numbers 13:33 (NKJV) 33 There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”

As soon as they saw themselves as grasshoppers and the inhabitants of the land as giants, their faith went out the window and they let what they saw override what God had told them.

In other words, it got into their heads. And at that very moment, they lost the battle.

Caleb saw it.

It wasn’t like he hadn’t seen what they all saw. He did see it. But he knew in His faith that God was bigger, and he knew that’s how they would win the battle.

We can’t look at things through our own sight. If we are facing giants today, maybe at work, maybe in our health, maybe in school, maybe in our finances, or maybe in our home, we can’t let it stick.

Know that God is greater, and it’s on His Word that we stand.

He is our shield, our hiding place, when fear tries to overwhelm us.

Psalm 119:114 (NKJV) 114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.

We can take the giants out if we stand firm in our faith, allowing Him to be bigger in our sight than the obstacle we may be facing!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-10-20

Numbers 14:4 (NKJV) 4 So they said to one another, “Let us select a leader and return to Egypt.”

Picture with me, if you will, a very large group of people who had been slaves all their lives, subject to the whims of their masters, not able to do anything of their own accord.

They worked endlessly from dawn until dark, doing nothing unless they were told to do so. They had no freedom whatsoever.

Now, picture them being set free, no longer having to endure beatings, endless hours of back-breaking labor, and now being led, protected by and provided for by God Himself.

Sounds like a really good deal, right?

Arguably, anyone in their right mind wouldn’t want to trade this scenario for anything in the world.

But the Israelites did!

When they reached a place of being unsure of their destiny, they wanted to go back to slavery. Seriously! They wanted to trade their freedom for familiarity, even though it would mean giving up everything they had gained.

Why? Because their current situation was uncomfortable. It was uncomfortable because it was new to them.

They didn’t know what to expect each day. They had no routine, no schedule. And this scared them.

It scared them so much, in fact, that they would have willingly returned to Egypt and subjected themselves to slave labor just to have a little security.

Do we ever do this? Do we ever long to go back to an earlier time just for the sake of being in a situation or in surroundings that are familiar and a bit more comfortable for our minds, even though it usually means being far worse off overall?

It’s safe to say that we have probably all done this, or at least thought about doing it, more than once in our lifetimes. And many of us do it frequently.

The good news, though, is that there is a fix for this. It’s all about learning to trust God with our lives, letting Him lead us and guide us, without constantly questioning Him and asking Him why He’s doing what He’s doing.

This takes time to mature and develop in our lives. It doesn’t happen overnight. It also doesn’t happen if we don’t make the effort to grow our relationship with Him.

But when we do put forth the effort, we are rewarded with a flourishing walk with God and a faith in Him that stands strong even in the face of the most adverse situations, and a trust that can’t be broken no matter what we face.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-4-20

Matthew 19:26 (NKJV) 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

We will face many things in life that seem impossible. And, in reality, some of them are impossible from a natural point of view.

But with God, all things are possible.

With men, it might be impossible that unpaid bills somehow mysteriously get paid. But with God, all things are possible.

With men, it might be impossible that God could use us because we are untrained and uneducated. But with God, all things are possible.

With men, it might be impossible that our “incurable disease” be cured. But with God, all things are possible.

With men, it might be impossible for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God, But with God, all things are possible.

With men, it might be impossible for a sinner to be saved. But with God, all things are possible.

With men, it might be impossible for a drug addict to be set free and made whole again. But with God, all things are possible.

With men, it might be impossible for a person who lived a Godless life to repent on their death bed and enter into the kingdom of God. But with God, all things are possible.

You see, God will not be kept in a box. He is no respecter of persons. His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts higher than our thoughts.

And though some of the things He does may not make sense to our heads, we need to be thankful for that!

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-20-20

Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV) 6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

This is a well-known verse that we often see and hear quoted around Christmas time. And while it’s understandable that it would be used as such, there is much more going on here!

As of the day and moment that this is being written, much of the world is in a state of panic. Coronavirus is making its way around the globe. The media is causing fear and trepidation in the hearts of millions as they focus on this sickness and put fear into the hearts of men and women.

And while there is cause for concern, it’s important that we not let the hype and the fear take hold of our hearts.

Why?

Because we live under the hand of the Prince of Peace, the Everlasting Father, Mighty God.

You see, a Godless society has nowhere to run. They have no one to go to for peace, solace or answers to their questions and fears. It is for this reason that we see the panic on an increasing frequency and level over the last decade, as God has been pushed aside and largely eliminated from so many societies.

As followers of Christ, children of the Most High God, we don’t have to fall into the hysteria or panic. On the contrary, we should be peaceful and of sound mind during these times.

It doesn’t mean that we don’t see the seriousness of a situation. It simply means that we know the One who gives a peace that surpasses all understanding, even when the world looks like it’s falling apart.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Trust Him. Cling to Him. Press in to Him. Draw near to Him.

And while the world around us gets whipped into a frenzy by Godless people who have no spiritual understanding, and no sense of who He is, we look to Him for everything that we need, trusting that He will guide our each and every step.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-5-20

Psalm 50:15 (NKJV) 15 Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”

Do you have trouble?

We all do from time to time. Each of our troubles is different. But we all know the One who holds the solution to our trouble!

Notice that God didn’t say to become frantic, get stressed out and try our hardest to figure out the solution to our troubles by ourselves?

But isn’t it interesting that that’s exactly what most of us do, at least initially?

When trouble hits, we immediately go into panic mode and wonder how this thing will play out, and how bad the outcome will be.

But God doesn’t want us to react this way to troubles. Instead, He wants us to call on Him, to go to Him with these troubles. And then He wants us to give them to Him.

That’s right, just give them to Him. And then let Him show us how to fix them.

And if we do that, what does He say He will do?

He says He will deliver us!

Doesn’t that sound so much better than becoming frantic and fretting and stressing for days or weeks on end?

We think so too! And it’s something that God has taught us to do over the last several years. And wow, does it make a huge difference!

We didn’t learn this overnight. God didn’t just change us instantly and make it happen with the snap of His fingers.

It took time. And it took us learning to trust God for absolutely everything we need.

It may not have always been easy, but it was worth whatever struggles we might have gone through to learn it.

We encourage you to do the same; Cry out to Him, take your troubles to Him, and give them to Him.

And then trust Him with it all, one day, one moment at a time.

Your life will never be the same again. We promise.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-9-19

Isaiah 26:4 (NKJV) 4 Trust in the Lord forever, For in Yah, the Lord, is everlasting strength.

There is such strength that comes with trusting the Lord.

And we need it if we want to walk in the things He has for us. We can’t walk in such strength without Him. Our own strength will not be enough.

We need His strength to say no at times. We need it to walk away from the things we need to walk away from at times. We need His strength to keep our tongue and our thoughts in order and aligned with Him. And we need it to keep our hearts focused on Him.

We cannot think of doing things the same way we have been doing them, and be able to walk the path God has for us. We need to let go of the old way and trust Him.

In that trust there will rise up a strength in us that will cause us to want and desire God-given action for the tasks He sets before us.

Walk in it and move forward. Don’t look back like Lot’s wife did. She was done when she looked back.

Genesis 19:26 (NKJV) 26 But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

Looking back is no good. It will destroy the future that God has for us.

Trusting in the Lord will bring everlasting strength, keeping us heading in forward motion down a road God has for us. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-7-19

Romans 14:8 (NKJV) 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.

It’s hard to get to a point in our walk where we feel content enough to say we are completely the Lord’s. We may be able to say we are working to get there, but to be completely there is another story.

We may pray, “God, use me”. And then He may want to do something with us or through us, and if we are not comfortable in doing it, we may shy away from it.

It’s not easy doing some of the things that may be asked of us to do. And some of the things may not be comfortable or anything like what we are used to doing.

As a matter of fact, most times it is something we have probably never attempted to do before.

Isn’t it funny that God would ask us to do something we are not familiar with. But He knows that if we don’t know how, we won’t lean on our own understanding, which causes us to reach out and lean on Him.

Some people have stepped out, leaning on God, but as time passed they got comfortable in what they were doing. And now they lean on what they have learned.

We have to always be listening and ready for God. We never know when He may want to add a little flavor to our life, so to speak.

Learn to live for Him so when He says, “change it up”, or “time to move on”, we are ready. Then we won’t ponder on it for too long and talk ourselves out of it.

Genesis 12:1 (NKJV) 1 Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-5-19

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

When God comes into our hearts it may take time for us to realize that we are going to need to let some things go if we want to go deeper with Him.

Sometimes its people; people that may mean a great deal to us. It doesn’t necessarily mean we can’t see them at all. It may just mean we can’t spend as much time with them.

Many years ago, I was going through a season in my life, and in this season God asked me to pull away from some people I was very close to. I knew it meant change for me, because a great deal of my time was spent with them.

We had a routine, or specific days where we would do things together. It was so hard for me, but I humbly pulled back. And it brought me to tears at times because of their absence. But as time passed, it got easier and I could see why I had to do that.

It helped me to focus on other things and see God in a way I hadn’t known Him otherwise. Sometimes people can obscure our vision.

It’s part of our journey with Him. Our hearts will be at peace, but it doesn’t mean it won’t hurt from the things we need to do away with or let go of at times.

We will have to make choices that we may not fully understand at first. But as we follow and obey, later on we will see the importance of why He had us do certain things in a certain way.

Our journey with Him is learning to trust in Him in a whole new dimension.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-19-19

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

These verses have become my “words to live by”. Every day it becomes clearer and clearer to me what this really means.

It’s all part of the faith walk, that path that God puts you on that takes you somewhere you’ve never been and to a destination you have no idea about. You will only know that you have reached your destination when God says, “you’re there”.

Without the Holy Spirit, this walk will mess with your head. It will have you questioning yourself and the choices you make. It will have you asking yourself if what you chose was God or your emotions.

But then God speaks and tells you that it’s all OK. You’re not off. You’re not crazy, and you’re not weird. You’re on the right track.

As God has shown me this more and more, I have begun to notice it in action in the lives of people in the Bible.

Joseph, who became the “father” of Jesus, probably wrestled with this as Mary told him that she was pregnant, but still a virgin. And then again when God gave him a dream and told Him to flee to Egypt to protect his newborn Son from Herod.

Abraham, the “father of many nations”, dealt with this when he was told by God to leave and go “to a place I will show you”.

Genesis 12:1 (NKJV) 12 Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.

Think about that. He had to leave his country, his family and his father’s house. But he did so not even knowing where he was supposed to end up.

And then he was promised a son when he was 100 years old. Now that’s a mind bender right there.

But Abraham obeyed, and God was faithful to keep His promises.

There’s something we need to be clear about; God didn’t stop doing these kinds of things when the people in the Bible died. He still does them today in the lives of people like you and me.

We just have to be alert and discerning to hear Him and then follow His leading.

Yes, it’s odd at first. Yes, it’s scary sometimes. And yes, people might think you’re crazy if you tell them about it.

But that doesn’t make it any less real. And it doesn’t make God any less faithful.

He still does these things! He still shows us and tells us things that require His spirit for us to get understanding and then make the right moves.

God still speaks. Are we listening?

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-9-19

James 4:10 (NKJV) 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

As I leaned over the hospital bed to hold my brother, I heard these words whispered in my ear, ”I’m so close to death right now”.

All I could say was, “I know”.

I held him in my arms, knowing that the alcoholism was either going to take him soon or there would come a miracle that would save his life. I reached a point in my heart where I said,” let it be, Lord. Let it be.”

A miracle came, and he is alive almost 3 years later.

At an earlier time, I was also at the hospital. This time I was with my dad, as he laid in the bed getting ready for heart surgery, at 80 years of age.

I thought, “my God, help me hold it together for my Mom and the rest of the family”. My knees were weak and I myself needed someone to lean on. God held me up and kept me strong.

Being an older man, it was a risky surgery. I didn’t know if he would come out alive or not. Only time would tell. Once again, I found myself saying within my heart, “let it be, Lord. Let it be”.

He came through that surgery. They gave him a short time to heal from it, and then came another surgery to repair a clogged carotid artery. A short time later, he had a third surgery to remove cancer. It was hitting all at once.

And he would say, “I’m weak as a kitten”. Again, my heart cried out, “Lord, let it be. Let it be.”

A miracle came. My Dad is alive today, at 84 years of age.

Yet another time, I was laying on my livingroom floor, bawling like a baby.

Our own situation at that time was so heavy on my heart. I didn’t know what to do or to think.

I looked to the left of me, and kneeling beside me was an image like Jesus. He had a gentle smile and I clearly heard, “It’s going to be alright. Everything is going to be alright”.

That was it. There was nothing telling me how it was going to be alright. No direction as to what to do. Nothing. That was it in a nutshell.

But that was my answer and I believed God. I held onto that word with my life. And today, more than 5 years later, I can say everything is ALRIGHT!

It was another miracle right before my eyes.

God is willing to do His part and move on our behalf. Are we willing to humble our hearts and reach that point where we can honestly say,” let it be, Lord. Let it be!”?

Let Him do what He knows is best, and be alright with His decision for us or for someone else that is in the battle of life or death, loss or gain, etc.

Let it be, Lord. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-8-19

Philippians 4:19 (NKJV) 19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

If there is one thing that I have learned over the years, it’s this; God is faithful.

It doesn’t matter what we face, God is always the One we can count on. He doesn’t get scared and run. He doesn’t get mad and turn His back. He doesn’t forget His promises.

So many of us spend so many hours of our lives worrying needlessly. Yes, at the time when we’re worrying, whatever we’re worrying about seems pretty big to us. And some of the things we worry about might actually be big.

But God is always bigger. Period.

Why is it so hard for us to remember that when we’re face to face with a trial, a dilemma or a “monster” of some kind that’s threatening to swallow us up?

That may seem like a rhetorical question. But it’s not. It’s an honest question that we all need to try to answer if we’re going to learn to let our faith and trust in God be tested and, ultimately, to grow.

When a need arises, no matter what kind of need it is, God is able. He can supply it. The notion or idea that He can’t isn’t even a possibility.

Let’s work hard at getting our heads and our hearts to grasp this awesome truth, and then live it out.

My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory, by Christ Jesus!
