Bible Verse of The Day – 9-26-24

Proverbs 4:23 (NKJV) 23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.

To keep our heart also means to watch over, cultivate, and protect it.

What are we protecting it from?

From the things that will pull us down, or draw us away from God, or things that will try to come in and take root.

Or maybe they are already there and need to be rooted out.

When we become a believer, our heart needs a lot of attention because the Bible says that the heart is desperately wicked.

Jeremiah 17:9 (NKJV 9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?

We need to uproot and clean out the things that cannot stay; the deceit and wickedness.

What is it today that is keeping us from walking a closer walk with God?

Is it the old habits keeping us on the fence? You know; those things that have been part of us for some time, but we know they must go.

The issues of life come from our very own heart.

What we love will rule us! Let it be God!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-16-22

Jeremiah 17:9 (NKJV) 9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?

Brothers and sisters in Christ, we are all dealing with wicked and deceitful hearts that need transformation.

No one is perfect, even after getting saved. It takes time to turn this heart of ours around.

We will always have something we are working on. But, if we know it is there and causing us to fail, we’d better be working on it and not letting it drag us into bad situations.

The key here is to know what our heart is about without Christ, and to be willing to make the necessary changes after we learn of Him and become His child.

Don’t just say, “well, I’ve always had a problem with this. It’s my weakness”. No, when we realize it, we have to shut it down, and Jesus Christ will show us how.

He will show us how to change that old heart and transform it into a new one.

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

The biggest and most important way is to resist temptation. Build up that resistance muscle.

How? Through prayer and the Word we will be made strong.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-30-22

Matthew 15:1-3 (NKJV) 1 Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying, 2 “Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.” 3 He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?

As Jesus spent more time in public, He drew more and more criticism from the religious leaders of that day.

The things He taught bothered them, so they sought to discredit Him.

At that same time, Jesus began to tear down many of the old traditions that they clung to in their ritualistic worship of God.

So, as they questioned Him as to why His disciples didn’t (ceremonially) wash their hands before eating bread, Jesus turned the tables on them and put them on the spot.

His intention wasn’t to persecute them, but to try to get them to see their own hypocrisy in the fact that while they followed their traditions rigorously (mechanically), they failed to honor God by following His commandments.

Later, when His disciples questioned Him about this, He explained that it’s not what we put into our mouth that defiles us, but what comes out of it. For what comes out is driven by what’s in our heart.

And that’s what really matters.

Let us not be like the religious leaders who were more concerned with tradition than they were with their relationship with God.

We need to let God cleanse us from the inside, out, that our hearts may be purified and guarded against the evil things that corrupt us.

Matthew 15:18-20 (NKJV) 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. 20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-9-20

Jeremiah 17:9 (NKJV) 9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?

It’s not uncommon for people to ask God to change them, make them a different person, with less faults and shortcomings.

This is usually a sincere request on their part. They want to live differently, in a way that’s more pleasing to Him.

There is a flaw in this, though, that is usually overlooked. And this flaw causes people to ask God over and over again to change them because they see themselves continuing to do those same things and being disappointed with themselves.

It can be fixed, though, And here’s how.

We need to stop asking God to change us, and ask Him to change our heart.

You see, the heart of a person is where things emanate from. It’s the source of our thoughts which lead to our actions.

So, if we’re asking God to change us, but our heart stays the same, we will be stuck in an endless loop, like a hamster on a wheel; doing a lot of work, but going nowhere.

Let’s dig a bit deeper and see what is meant by this verse.

The word “deceitful” is the foundation of this one.

Deceitful: guilty of deceiving or misleading others. Dishonest, untruthful, lying, perverse, untrustworthy.

Not very pretty, is it?

Now, not only are we told that it is deceitful, but that it is more deceitful than anything else (above all things). That’s about as bad as it can get.

The next phrase used to describe our heart is this one; desperately wicked.

The original Hebrew for this means “incurably sick”.

Various translations use the following phrases; exceedingly perverse and corrupt. Severely, mortally sick. Extremely sick. Beyond cure.

This makes it pretty easy to see why our heart needs to be changed if we want our person to change.

This sounds pretty dismal, doesn’t it?

But here’s the deal. God, the Creator of all we see, and the One who breathed life into us, offers us hope!

How?

You see, David got this. He understood it.

He saw his own depravity after committing a terrible sin (several of them, actually). And he knew that the only way he could change was to ask God to change his heart.

Psalm 51:10 (NKJV) 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

So, David spoke these words and then endeavored to walk uprightly from that day, forward, keeping God above all else.

And if we look back at history, we see that God held David up higher than all other kings for that very reason; he never worshiped other gods, and was a man after God’s own heart, unlike just about every other king after him.

So, if we are longing for change, and we’re tired of asking God to change us, maybe it’s time that we do it right!

Ask Him to change our heart. And then give Him permission to do it, setting Him free to lead and guide us through the process.

Then we will see our lives change, a little at a time as we follow His leading.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-24-19

Psalm 51:10 (NKJV) 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

How does our heart get clean? By letting God touch those dark spots; those hard spots, those spots that need repair. Also, by letting His love grow in us.

How does that happen? By doing what His word says; do good to those who hate us, and pray for those who spitefully use us.

Matthew 5:44 (NKJV) 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you

Love will grow in our heart and bring healing to that hardness.

We don’t want to do good and pray occasionally or whenever we are in the mood.  We want to have a steadfast spirit, meaning resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering.

We do this on a regular basis, no matter how we may be feeling that day. Our emotions are not going to like this when we don’t let them have a say in the matter.

Be steadfast in the cleansing of our heart and loving one another.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-9-18

Jeremiah 17:9-10 (NKJV) 9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? 10 I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.

As followers of Christ, it’s critically important that we check our heart from time to time and let God show us what’s in there.

Because our heart is hidden, it’s a place where secrets can dwell very safely. While this might seem like it’s OK, since it’s hidden away, it means that we can be hiding things that are not good.

It’s important that we’re honest with ourselves and willing to admit that we have things hidden in us that we need to give God access to, so He can help us root them out and get rid of them.

There are no secrets from God. He sees everything and knows everything. So if we think we’re hiding anything from Him by keeping it undercover, we’re only kidding ourselves.

And let’s be clear about something. We don’t necessarily need to be ashamed of what we’re hiding. We all deal with something.

The shameful part is when we know that something is there and we coddle it, cater to it and feed it, like a pet. But if we go to God with it and let Him help us with it, He will help us get free from it and show us how to avoid it in the future.

So, let’s let God in. Give Him access to our most secret place and most secret thoughts. We are literally only one step away from beginning to get free of those hidden things.

And once we surrender them to Him, they can no longer control us or torment us. Be free, in the name of Jesus!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-24-18

Jeremiah 17:9 (NKJV) 9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?

No one but God truly knows our heart. He knows it inside and out. And this verse describes the state of every man’s heart.

It doesn’t sound very pretty, does it?

Although many may like to think that this type of heart is only in those people that show themselves by doing bad and evil things, it’s not the case.

And unless we understand this and accept it, we will never get to a place where God can help us.

This is the truth about our own heart, and we need to take it in and hear it personally.

Our hearts need healing, restoration, and purifying every day.

James 4:8 (NKJV) 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Drawing close to God, and having a humble and repentant heart will help us take care of those things in our heart. His word will help us and He will draw near to us.

He will do a marvelous work on our hearts over time if we will let Him.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-6-18

Luke 23:21 (NKJV) 21 But they shouted, saying, “Crucify Him, crucify Him!”

Why? Why would people want to crucify a perfect, loving and kindhearted man, someone that they knew did wonderful and miraculous things?

Luke 7:22 (NKJV) 22 Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them.

These are the things Jesus was doing. These are the things that the religious leaders were threatened by, causing them to stir the people up to hate Him and want Him crucified.

Wow! How can this be? How can something so good be turned around and made to look bad?

It’s all about our hearts. Our hearts speak what is truly in us.

Matthew 15:19 (NKJV) 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

For people to want to crucify a man that was doing such marvelous things, it shows us the power of the heart and what’s in it.

While on the cross, this same Man that they crucified cried out to His Father, “forgive them, for they do not know what they do”.

Luke 23:34 (NKJV) 34 Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And they divided His garments and cast lots.

Our heart can obstruct our vision and mind, causing us to make absurd decisions and judgments at times. We need Jesus and the change He brings to our hearts! He helps us to see things clearly in this world that we live in.

Ezekiel 36:26 (NKJV) 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-28-14

Genesis 6:5(NKJV) 5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Understanding what God says about the condition of our hearts, without Christ, will help us all to see why Christ came to save us and why we need Him working daily in our lives.

If we look closely at what is happening all around this world, the good and the bad, we will see that it stems from one common denominator, that is the heart condition of man, whether or not He has Christ.

Genesis 6:6 (NKJV) 6 And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. It is the condition the heart is in that causes the person to do what they do, whether they do a good deed or a bad deed. That is why Christ says, we will know them by their fruit. Matthew 7:20 (NKJV) 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

If we see someone, whether a leader, a friend or family member, etc., doing things wrong, if we want to see them change, we need to pray for God to change their heart. That is where everything stems from.

God says in Jeremiah 17:9 (NKJV)9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?

Knowing this simple truth about the condition of the heart will help us to stay focused today, understanding the real problem behind people’s actions.

Let’s join together and pray for God to change the heart of man, that they will repent and receive Christ as their Lord today. Amen.
