Tag: Bible Verses about staying close to God

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-7-20

1 Corinthians 7:24 (NKJV) 24 Brethren, let each one remain with God in that state in which he was called.

Remain in God!

So many things can try to remove us or distract us from the things that God has for us to do.

The enemy loves to get us off track. He will try anything to cause us to be distant from God. He will put blocks, hurdles and great big mountains in the way. He will try and throw anything our way to knock us off the path God has for us.

But we must continue in God!

No weapon formed against us shall beat us or take us out. Remember that when we get hit so hard, and we think we are going to give up or die. This is not the end of the road.

Isaiah 54:17 (NKJV) 17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.

Things may change from the way we are used to doing them, but it will not take us out. We need to change with it, but keep going. That’s what is called persevering.

Don’t lose sight because of all the battles we have faced. Remember what it is that God has set before us, and keep pressing in.

Don’t stop walking the road He has just because of a changed situation. We all need to stay focused and remain in God. He will lead the way.

Psalm 61:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. 2 From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-30-19

Malachi 3:6 (NKJV) 6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

God is the one Constant that we can all count on. He does not change. He does not compromise His truths and principles.

People compromise. People change. Societies change. Ways of thinking change.

But why is it that we expect God to bend and change to suit the whims of the people? Why does society expect God to suddenly become flexible in the principles that He established at the foundations of the world?

We are living in dangerous times. Black and white have faded and merged into a comfortable shade of gray for so many. What once was very wrong is now becoming more and more acceptable.

Well-known people of faith are falling away in record numbers, taking many of their followers with them. And as they make their exit, they extol virtues and ideologies that are blatantly contrary to God’s word.

As followers of Christ, children of God, we need to be ever so careful about what we take in and digest each day.

As we have said so many times in the past, we need to use God’s word as the measuring stick for absolutely everything that we hear and see. Does it line up with God’s word? Does it contradict His truth?

This is how we will know whether the people we look to for leadership are truly disciples of Christ, or people of weak faith (or no faith at all), masquerading as sheep while truly being wolves.

We implore you, stay ever so close to God during these times of mass falling away.

Mark 13:22 (NKJV) 22 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if  possible, even the elect.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-12-19

Colossians 1:21-23 (NKJV) 21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— 23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

The verses above are pretty lengthy. But what they say can be broken down fairly quickly, so let’s take a look at it together, because it’s pretty important stuff.

Paul was addressing the Christians in the Colossian body. In the verses surrounding the 3 mentioned above, he poured his heart out to them, expressing his love, concern and compassion for them.

In verse 21, above, he reminds them that they were once alienated from God because of the things they were involved in, wicked works.

But he wanted them to know that they were now reconciled to God because of the sacrifice that Christ made for us all, rendering them holy, blameless and above reproach in God’s sight.

But here’s the interesting part that we want to emphasize today. One word; “if”.

Paul uses that little two-letter word as a bridge to connect the first part of his teaching to the second part. “If” is the key that makes the whole thing complete.

He said that they are holy, blameless and above reproach, “if” they continued in their faith, steadfast and grounded. And if they are not moved away from the hope of the gospel.

There’s an important lesson there for each of us, too.

It’s critical that we stay steadfast and grounded in our faith. We can’t turn away from it and expect to walk in God’s blessings and favor. We can’t turn our backs on God and expect Him to shower us with blessings and continuously-answered prayers.

We can’t walk away from our faith, or be half-hearted in it and expect our lives not to show fruits of those decisions.

Let’s make sound choices, walking daily in His grace and mercy, choosing to put Him first in everything we do and every choice we make, that we may remain in His favor, holy, blameless and above reproach in His sight.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-20-18

Psalm 91:1-2 (NKJV) 1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

Dwell means to remain, to live or to direct attention to.

If we remain, live or direct our attention to God, the Most High, He promises we shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

If I could say it how I see it in just three words, I would say “We are SAFE!”. Everyone wants to be safe, right?

The key thing is remaining there. We can’t let ourselves get pulled out, distracted or too busy. We have to spend some quality Father time.

It doesn’t always have to be the same time every day, for the same number of minutes, hours, etc. But, we should be sure to make the time.

Are we arguing a lot in our marriage these days? Get under the shadow of the Almighty.

Are we struggling with work situations? Get under the shadow of the Almighty.

Are we lost in everyday life, confused and feeling like we’re never completing or accomplishing anything? Get under the shadow of the Almighty.

Are we living our life loosely, with no direction and no boundaries? Are we just carefree, doing what we want, not letting anyone tell us anything? If so, our life is probably pretty messed up. Get under the shadow of the Almighty.

God never gives up on us. He is our refuge. Get into that secret place.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-28-18

John 15:7 (NKJV) 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

To abide means to continue in one place. In this scripture, Jesus says to abide where? In Him.

We must continue each day in Him. His word must be in us. That means that we stick to Him like glue and we don’t move away from Him. No matter what comes against us, no matter what we are facing or going through, none of it should move us or separate us from Him.

The devil would love for us to be distracted. Look what we could do if we remained in our walk with Jesus, with no distractions. We would be getting the desires of our heart answered because our desires and focus would be on the things of God.

Let’s start focusing on the things that God says are important and let go of the things that are not. For instance, Jesus healed, delivered and saved the sick. He said the well didn’t need a doctor, so He went to the sick. Don’t be too quick to run away from those that have issues. Those are the very ones that need us and Who we have in us. They are the sick and they need help.

Luke 5:31 (NKJV) 31 Jesus answered and said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.

Jesus didn’t waste time. He went to those who were ready; ready to receive what He wanted to do in them or in their situation. Being ready is being willing to listen and take action, by faith.

James 1:22 (NKJV) 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-26-18

Acts 13:22 (NKJV) 22 And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’

God said that David was a man after His own heart. This is a big deal!

Many may look at David and think that he was a spiritual superhero, a near-perfect man, a man with few or no flaws. Nothing could be further from the truth.

David was a man after God’s own heart. He loved God immensely and would do whatever God asked him to do. But David was also very human, with many flaws and shortcomings.

As a man after God’s heart, he longed to please God and do the right thing. But David made some very poor choices in his lifetime.

He had an adulterous affair and then had the husband of his mistress killed in battle. And if we were to read more about David, we would see that his sins wreaked havoc with his family and with the kingdom of Israel for years to come, trickling down to other generations.

But one thing stays very clear when we look at David’s life. He never strayed from his God. And he never followed or worshiped foreign gods or worthless idols.

Are we like David? Are we a man or woman after God’s own heart? Are we loyal to God through thick and thin? Do we hold fast to Him no matter what comes our way?

Or do we wander and stray from Him, following whatever or whomever blows in with the winds?

Our hearts say a lot about us. What’s in our heart eventually comes out. This makes it very important to surrender our hearts to God and let Him take the wheel, guiding us in the direction He wants us to go.

And even if we make some poor choices along the way, if we stay steadfast in our love for God, He will call us a man or woman after His own heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-28-17

Matthew 5:13 (NKJV) 13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

There is much to be gleaned from this verse.

If we really look at it and let God speak to us, He will reveal the truth of this verse to us, and it will be life-changing.

Salt is something that everyone is familiar with. It’s one of the most common seasonings in the entire world.

Salt changes the flavor of everything it is used on or in. Everything. And the change is usually very noticeable.

Jesus has told us that we are the salt of the earth. We really need to get understanding on this one.

As the salt of the earth, we should be bringing change everywhere we are present, to everyone we come into contact with.

Our presence in a place and our interactions with people should bring some kind of transformation or adjustment that can be seen or felt. It might not always be a major change, but there should be evidence of our presence in some way.

Salt changes the things it comes into contact with, even if the amount of salt is very small. But the things that touch salt do not change the salt easily.

Salt is strong. Its presence rarely goes unnoticed.

And so it should be with us. As the salt of the earth, we should be the “change bringers”… the ones who have a positive, lasting effect on others.

Just as salt is not easily changed by other things, we should also not be changed by others that we come into contact with, especially in a negative way or a way that’s not pleasing to God.

If we are being changed in a negative way, it would be safe to say that our walk with God is probably not where it needs to be. It’s time for us to let God check our heart and help us see where we have fallen back. And then we need to let Him put our feet back on His path and strengthen us by His spirit.

So, here’s the test that we can use to check ourselves.

Do we use language that we would never consider using before? Do we watch TV shows, movies or other forms of media that we would never have watched at an earlier time in our walk with God because we knew that it wasn’t right?

Do we act in different ways now than we would have acted at an earlier season in our lives? Do we find certain things acceptable that we previously thought were unacceptable?

This is usually evidence of us compromising God’s standards and allowing others to influence us, instead of us influencing them.

We would like to appeal to you today to let God show you where you’re at. Where is our heart compared to where it was 6 months ago, a year ago or two years ago? Are we changing the world? Or is the world changing us?

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-23-16

Matthew 13:15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,

When something or someone has grown dull toward anything it means they are not excited about it and have lost interest in it.

This can happen to anyone if we don’t keep ourselves in the word of God. We can grow dull in our hearts toward Him. Our ears will grow hard of hearing and our eyes will close to His word. And the things He wants to show us and do with us will be far from us.

Staying in communication with God is what keeps us walking by His Spirit versus doing whatever we want, whenever we want.

The flesh will pull us in a hundred different directions. And of course, as it is with everything that the flesh likes to do, it’s up to us to say NO and crucify it and its cravings.

Galatians 5:24 (NKJV) 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-2-15

Matthew 13:22 (NKJV) 22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

Have the cares of our situation or the cares of this world been taking us on a little detour away from God?

How about our money, our work or our so-called needs? Are we letting them interfere with what we should be doing as God’s children? Are we letting them lead us, control us and ruin our fruit-bearing?

These things will come and will tempt us and they will try to suck the life, God’s life, right out of us. They will try to get us to the point where we don’t even think about God.

Be careful not to get sidetracked or caught up in these things. It’s not worth it. They don’t bring life, but destruction.

Stay close to God, hear His words and heed His words. Follow Him and He will help us to bear good fruit!!

Matthew 13:23 (NKJV) 23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

Let God teach us how to be FRUIT BEARERS! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-20-15

Psalm 119:133 (NKJV) 133 Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me.

It’s important that we don’t get so busy and caught up in the things we call “of God” that we don’t pay attention to what He is telling us to do at times.

Most times people start off on the right track and with the right motives. But if we don’t stay close to Him, meaning if we don’t take the time to read His word, take the time to pray and take time to rest, we may find ourselves saying, believing and doing things that are not right and far from His ways.

Draw close to God. No matter what we do, don’t let what we are doing keep us so busy that we don’t have time to stop and listen to Him. Make the time.

It is in His word that we find direction for our lives.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-28-15

Romans 8:38-39 (NKJV) 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

There are so many things that can try to keep us from our Creator.

Distractions, troubles, trials, other people and even our own stubbornness can pull us away from Him, if we let them.

The key to staying close to Him is to be adamant about not letting anyone or anything come between us. Ultimately, we decide what direction our relationship with Him goes.

That sounds like a pretty hefty order, to keep distractions out of our way and prevent them from separating us from God. But, if we take a stand and staunchly defend that relationship, there is nothing that can defeat us in our quest to press in and stay close to God.

So, today, whether you’re facing a trial in your life, you’ve got people pulling on you and trying to sway you, or if you’ve somehow let yourself grow cold, don’t give in!

Push forward, determine in your heart that nothing will come between you and God, and resist the devil in his attempts to derail your eternal destiny.

You Will Win This Battle!
