Bible Verse of The Day – 10-5-24

Jude 1:20-21 (NKJV) 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

It is important to pray in the Holy Spirit. Through Him, we will receive self-edification and the building up of our faith. Which we all need daily.

How do we pray in the Holy Spirit?

Praying in tongues, or the gift of tongues, comes from God. It is not a language we can make up on our own. It is praying from our spirit, led by the Holy Spirit, not our intellect.

1 Corinthians 12:28 (NKJV) 28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.

Praying in tongues without interpretation is not for us to speak to men, however. It is for us to speak to God. In the spirit we will speak mysteries.

1 Corinthians 14:2 (NKJV) 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

Praying in tongues without interpretation of what we speak is for our private worship and prayer time. Praying in tongues with interpretation/prophecy is for the edifying of the church.

Paul was speaking to the Corinthians and said he wished they all spoke in tongues, but even more that they would prophesy.

1 Corinthians 14:5 (NKJV) 5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.

Praying in tongues is for all of us, and we encourage you to express yourself through your spiritual language in your private devotion time. It will help you tremendously!

Mark 16:17 (NKJV) 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;

Pray in the Holy Spirit today. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-29-22

1 Corinthians 14:5 (NKJV) 5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.

Paul is speaking to the Corinthians. He is explaining how important it is to 1.) Speak in tongues and 2.) Prophesy.

These two spiritual gifts are very important and should be functioning in our lives as believers.

However, in a public setting, Paul emphasize that prophecy is preferred over tongues if tongues in a public setting cannot be interpreted at the time of speaking them.

And here’s the reason why.

When speaking in tongues, we are speaking to God in the spirit. We speak mysteries in the spirit. No man can understand what we are saying without it being interpreted.

1 Corinthians 14:2 (NKJV) 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

Tongues in a public setting depends on the companion gift of interpretation if it is to be interpreted/understood. Praying in tongues is mostly used for personal and private self-edification and praise to God.

Prophecy, on the other hand, is intended to bring edification, exhortation and comfort to men in a large setting and even on a personal level.

We must pursue love and desire both spiritual gifts to be functioning in our lives on a regular basis, in the church, and on a personal level, with love as our primary pursuit.

1 Corinthians 14:1 (NKJV) 1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.

Praise be to God. Let us move in the gifts of the Spirit!
