Bible Verse of The Day – 7-26-24

Ephesians 1:7-8 (NKJV) 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence…

We have been digging into the topic of redemption and the saving power of the blood of Christ this week, so we will continue that today as well.

This is foundational to our walk with God and our relationship with Him.

Without a solid understanding of this topic, we will fail to mature and develop our comprehension of other basic principles of Christianity.

The verses above are a summation of the foundation of our faith wrapped in a tidy little package.

Let us look a little more closely at what this all means.

Verse 7:

We have redemption (deliverance and salvation) though His blood.

He offers us forgiveness (pardoning, exoneration, clemency) for our sins (shortcomings, trespasses, offenses, misdeeds) through the generosity of His grace (unearned, unmerited, undeserved favor).

Verse 8:

He has caused these gifts to abound (be offered abundantly) toward us in every kind of wisdom and prudence (understanding, practical insight).

Why?

So we may grasp (develop understanding) the foundations of our faith and understand the mysteries of His plan and purpose.

God has equipped us with everything we need to grow and mature as believers.

He has gifted us with His mercy and grace.

And He has preserved His word over the centuries that we might have all that we need to flourish in our walk with Him.

Let us not neglect to gain understanding in the foundational things, but also to move beyond the basics and learn the mysteries of God.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-22-23

Ephesians 5:8 (NKJV) 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light…

This is an excellent example of the contrast between us before Christ and us after we have been redeemed by Christ.

Note that it says we were once darkness.

It doesn’t say that we were once in darkness or once under the influence of darkness. It says we were darkness.

There’s a difference. And it’s important for us to understand this so we can fully appreciate where God has brought us from.

Darkness defined who we were.

But since being redeemed, we are now light!

This light is not our own. It is not light that we create or generate ourselves.

We are light in the Lord.

It is His light. We are simply the transporter or carrier of that light.

And this light is in us to be shone on those we encounter, bringing glory to God, the Giver of that light.

It’s also important that we follow those last few words, “Walk as children of light”.

This is how others will know that we are His.

It is in walking as children of light that we glorify God in our bodies, proving that we are no longer darkness.

Verses 9 & 10 tell us that we are to walk in goodness, righteousness, and truth, finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.

Let us live our lives as an example of what God has done in us, being sure to make Him known in the words we speak and the actions we take.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-2-20

Galatians 3:13 (NKJV) 13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),

As believers in and followers of Christ, we have been redeemed.

If we have put our faith in Him and trusted Him for the salvation of our souls, then our sins have been forgiven. They have been washed away. Forgotten. Removed from us as far as the east is from the west, as the Bible says (Psalm 103:12).

Today I’d like to spend some time discussing the word, “redeemed”. I believe it’s one of the most powerful words in the entirety of God’s word.

I also believe it’s a word that has lost its power in the hearts and minds of believers.

We have almost become desensitized to what it really means. So, let’s dig in a little and see what we find.

Redeem: to buy or pay off, clear by payment, to discharge or fulfill (a pledge, promise, etc.). To free, liberate, rescue or save.

The scripture above refers specifically to us being redeemed from the curse of the law. In reality, though, it goes even deeper than that.

We have been redeemed from the consequences of our actions; our sin.

He bought us back. He paid for us.

We were bought at a price; a very steep price, at that.

1 Corinthians 6:20 (NKJV) 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

He exchanged His life for ours. That single statement is the most incredible thing, and the most difficult to truly comprehend; that God in the flesh (Immanuel, God with us) chose to voluntarily lay His life down in exchange for ours, to wipe out our sin and give us direct access to the Father, the Creator of all we see.

The implications and the ramifications of this are truly mind-blowing when we begin to comprehend it even a little.

And when we really start to wrap our heads around it, it will change the way we think about everything and the way we see everything about God and our walk with Him.

Redemption literally means that Christ purchased us from slavery to sin, and from the sentence of eternal death (eternal separation from God).

And that is what redemption means. That is what being redeemed truly means for you and for me.

Ponder on this for a while. Meditate on it. Spend some time taking it in and letting it penetrate your being.

Once you get it, you will never look at anything the same way again when it comes to your walk with God.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-16-19

Ephesians 1:7 (NKJV) 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace…

Redemption – the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil.

Jesus’ blood was a spiritual sacrifice for us. It took His perfect blood to save us from our sinful nature.

God’s perfect plan of redemption came about by way of a virgin, through whom was birthed the perfect Man, with a  plan to sacrifice His life on the cross one day for you and me.

Hebrews 9:12 (NKJV) 12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

Eternal – lasting or existing forever; without end or beginning.

There is no end to this Salvation.

This is the richest, most excellent gift we could ever receive through His grace; the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

Dear God in Heaven,

Thank you for Your most Holy sacrifice for our sins, Your Son, Jesus Christ. Through His blood we have been redeemed. We repent today of our sins and ask You for forgiveness. Would You guide our steps in this life and help us to walk according to Your will for us? In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Psalm 85:13 (NKJV) 13 Righteousness will go before Him, And shall make His footsteps our pathway.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-6-18

1 Timothy 1:15 (NKJV) 15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.

As we read this verse, it’s important that we apply it to ourselves, despite the fact that it was written by the apostle Paul.

We’ve all done things that we’re not proud of. Some may be “small” and others not so small. But sin is sin in God’s eyes. It’s important that we also view it as such.

You and I all stand guilty; each and every one of us. And short of God’s redemption through Jesus, we all stand condemned.

But Jesus came to set us free from our sins and the condemnation that comes with that sin.

Ephesians 1:7 (NKJV) 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace…

Thank you, God, for setting me, the worst of sinners, free through the blood of Jesus, without Whom I would be eternally lost and without hope. You have taken me from darkness, into your eternal light. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-18-17

2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV) 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Jesus walked the earth, sinless. He knew no sin.

This is something that’s hard for our minds to comprehend. We have a hard time wrapping our heads around the fact that a man, a human being, could live for 33 years and not sin. Not even once.

But it is what was required of Him. It was necessary. It was His purpose to come to earth and live a sinless life.

Why?

Because we needed redemption. We needed someone to build a bridge between us and a holy God, whom we had been separated from by our own transgressions. We needed someone who could blot out our own sins and make us righteous, in spite of ourselves.

Jesus was that One. He came and lived. And He died, for you and for me, to redeem us.

His lack of sin proves our need for Him. Without Him we would be hopeless and lost, forever condemned.

But with Him, we have hope!

Titus summed it very well in these verses:

Titus 2:11-14 (NKJV) 11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

We have hope, in Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-16-15

Colossians 1:13-14 (NKJV) 13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

We have been delivered from the power of darkness.

The blood of Christ delivers us from the power of darkness, and offers us redemption and the forgiveness of sins.

There are no words that can fully explain the miracle declared to us in these verses.

With one action, the death of Christ, the possibility to have our sins washed away was now before us.

And with the resurrection of Christ came the promise of eternal life, as death’s grip over us was broken once and for all.

No matter how hard we try, we will never be able to fully comprehend or understand this. It’s beyond human understanding and logic.

But human intellect isn’t the key to God’s plan. Instead, God uses His spirit to draw us to Him and show us the need for redemption.

We may never fully understand it, but if we embrace it in faith, it will save us and change us for eternity.
