Bible Verse of The Day – 5-21-24

Mark 6:31 (NKJV) 31 And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.

Are we tired? Who’s with me today?

I frequently feel drained. From what?

From trying to be a light in such a dark place, being fought hard to make the right decision every second of every hour, every single day.

So, should we give up when we are tired? No. We must get built up again.

We find a deserted place or quiet place where we can rest, pray and allow God’s word to replenish our spirit and strengthen us. A place where there is peace and quiet, and we can listen and learn. Oh, how I long for my deserted place at times.

I believe Jesus is saying to us today, “Come aside. Get to that place and rest awhile. Take time today, lay low, and get quiet before Me.”

The fight will continue. It doesn’t end. And we need to be rested and alert. Discernment needs to be sharp and quick to pick up on the enemy’s tactics.

So, rest today, and fight tomorrow with the shield and strength of our Lord! Amen.

Psalm 28:7 (NKJV) 7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-29-23

Luke 5:16 (NKJV) 16 So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.

Life can get very busy.

We have so many things today that can distract us and pull on us, vying for our attention.

It wasn’t too many years ago that TV stations shut down for the night. They would broadcast from roughly 6 AM until around midnight, then they would cease broadcasting until the next morning.

There was a break in the media that was there for people to consume.

Then, things started changing. TV stations began broadcasting day and night, 24/7.

Cable TV came along and expanded the amount of “entertainment” that was available for people. No longer were people relegated to only two or three stations to choose from. Now there were hundreds.

Around this same time, computers became available in homes. Not everyone could afford one, nor did they need it.

Now, home computers are commonplace. And the Internet is a necessity for many of our most basic needs.

And so the onslaught of never-ending media consumption began.

Those of us who grew up before the advent of home computers, smartphones and social media remember what it was like not having access to devices that constantly clamored, trying every possible tactic to coax us into sitting and staring at the screen for hours at a time.

Nowadays it is a constant battle. We are barraged with noises and the allure of getting “likes” on our social media posts and having more “friends” than we know what to do with.

And after a while it becomes a barrage of madness at levels that can’t be comprehended.

This can take its toll on us.

We lose our quiet time. We lose our privacy. We surrender ourselves to the pursuit of online popularity.

But there needs to come a time when we see the truth of what has happened to our lives.

We need to recognize that we have forfeited our time alone, our time to pull away, our time to keep our sanity intact, and our walk with God strong.

Jesus regularly pulled away and went to a quiet place of solitude to pray. We need to pay attention to the example He set and follow in His footsteps.

Not only do we need to pray, but we also need to disconnect and create a quiet environment where we can gather our thoughts, meditate on His word, and hear God speak to us.

Don’t be afraid to stop everything and shut down. When we do, we will wonder why we didn’t do it sooner.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-19-23

Luke 5:16 (NKJV) 16 So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.

Life can get noisy. So many things constantly barrage our ears with sounds. After a while it can get frustrating, and these noises can become a huge distraction if we let them.

Smartphones are constantly alerting us with notifications.

Microwave ovens beep to let us know when something is finished heating up. And if we don’t get to it within seconds, it will beep again and again.

Washing machines and dryers beep or buzz to let us know when the laundry is finished.

Televisions spew a constant stream of noise; voices, sound effects, music and more.

People can be noisy too; constant chatter that can wear on us over time if we don’t get a reprieve from it.

Jesus frequently took time away from everyone to go and spend time with His Father.

He knew and understood the importance of doing this, and He set the perfect example for His disciples, and for us centuries later.

How often do we do this? When do we break away from everything, and everyone, to spend time communing with our heavenly Father, with no noises, no interruptions and no disturbances?

We are all different. Our situations and circumstances are unique. But it’s still critical that we heed the instruction and the example of Jesus, making sure we set aside the time to break away from the constant chatter so we can hear God and share our heart with Him.

With our lives so busy, it might seem impossible for some of us to even think about doing this. But it isn’t optional if we hope to grow as believers and learn how to hear God accurately.

So, make today the day we start. Make today the day that we do whatever it takes to “withdraw” to a quiet place to pray and spend time with our Father.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-26-20

Psalm 91:1 (NKJV) 1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

We have to have a place where we can go and get away from all the noise. A place where we can be alone with the Most High God.

Some people never get there. Because of this, the noise will keep them doing nothing. It will keep them going in circles.

God’s children need to be focused and aware of their surroundings.

We don’t just casually move through each day. We move through each day with purpose.

Where does this purpose come from?

It comes from being in the secret place of the Most High. In the presence of the Lord is where we will get our purpose, direction, and understanding.

What is that purpose? It’s the purpose to worship and praise God. The purpose to put Him first. The purpose to pray. The purpose to love others, and the purpose to give.

Someone may say, “well, that’s a lot of purposing”. Yes, it is!  But remember Who lives in us. He gives us what we need, so we can do what we need to do.

God is faithful.

Isaiah 50:7 (NKJV) 7 “For the Lord God will help Me; Therefore I will not be disgraced; Therefore I have set My face like a flint, And I know that I will not be ashamed.

Get away from the noise. Find Him in that secret place and get purpose back in our walk. Set ourselves like a flint and go.

Don’t look back.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-6-19

Mark 6:32 (NKJV) 32 So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves.

Getting away from the everyday routine can often help us to come back with a fresh and renewed perspective. Many times it will give us a new outlook and ideas on things that may have been troubling or concerning us.

But, if you are like most people, you will put yourself on the back burner over and over again, doing for everyone else and not taking any time for yourself. This is not healthy or balanced.

It’s very important for us to get away and have some quiet time. We cannot keep going and expect to produce excellence if we are burned out. And that is exactly what happens. We get burned out, tired and bored.

Boredom is the worst. It is a killer. We were designed as humans to find contentedness, but not boredom. There is a big difference.

Bored – feeling weary because one is unoccupied or lacks interest in one’s current activity.

Content – being in a state of peaceful happiness.

Whether we are doing something we love or don’t love, if God is in it and we know we need to be doing it, it will bring a peaceful, content feeling. And we will find happiness in it because we know we are obeying Him.

Take time out here and there and make sure we are being refreshed every now and then.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-2-17

Psalm 24:10 (NKJV) 10 Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory.

I am reminded today of my King of glory. My heart is full with thankfulness and I am overwhelmed with all that He has done throughout this year.

Prayer is a powerful tool that our King has granted to us. If we knew how much prayer does, we would spend more time doing it. We would be less aggravated, frustrated and doubtful.

We would be trying to make more time to sit with Him and lay everything before Him, rather than spending more and more time trying to fix things that we have no control over.

Oh, the things that get accomplished through prayer.

Our King of glory, Our Lord of hosts, is there. He is listening for our voice. He is waiting on us to come to Him and spill it out. He has already seen, evaluated and figured out the plan. He has the answers for us. We just have to go and talk to Him, get the answer and move forward.

Make the time to spend with Him. Some of us need to take a vacation and get away. A retreat where it is just us and God.

Some of us just need to get in a quiet spot, shut off the phone, laptop, TV, music and just stay quiet for a bit.

And some of us just need to start taking a step. We have the answer we were seeking. Now we just need to do it.

Wherever we are at in our walk, the King of glory is with us. Praise be to Him!
