Bible Verse of The Day – 8-18-23

Hebrews 12:6 (NKJV) 6 For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”

God disciplines those whom He loves. And that discipline often includes some harsh chastisement.

As our Father, He wants us to learn and understand certain things.

Choices have consequences for us as individuals, as they do for larger entities.

When nations abandon Him, He would be a hypocrite if He did not discipline that nation.

Why?

Because His word and His promises are true, even when those promises are not flowery and cheerful.

God remains the same forever. He does not change.

Malachi 3:6 (NKJV) 6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

So, if He says He will discipline or chasten His children, we should expect this kind of thing to happen.

But fear not. There is a fix for this!

God’s word makes it plain and clear that if a nation recognizes their sin and takes steps to correct its path, asking for God’s forgiveness, He will hear them and heal their land.

2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV) 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Sometimes this requires major sacrifices on our part.

In addition to removing the sin from our lives, prayer and fasting are important pieces to the puzzle.

Nobody likes to hear about fasting, but it is one of the things that can move things (spiritual obstacles) that will otherwise not move. So, we should not be quick to discount it or ignore it.

Are you troubled and distressed by what you see happening in the world right now?

Do you recognize the spiritual battles that are taking place right before our eyes?

Do you want to help fight and win this battle?

Take action.

We all play a part in restoring whatever nation we might live in that has strayed.

Repent. Pray. Fast.

Seek Him wholeheartedly. Ask Him what it is that He would have you do to help restore your nation.

And then do whatever it is that He shows you to do, even if it might be difficult or uncomfortable for a season.

If we do our part, God is faithful to do His.

We hope this series has been insightful, informative, and helpful.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-17-23

Isaiah 5:20 (NKJV) 20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

As we left off yesterday, we were discussing the fact that a nation in decline will reach a point where it eventually plunges into darkness, and the righteous try desperately holding onto God and what is good.

Those who have abandoned God will begin blatantly displaying evil in plain sight.

As this happens, evil becomes labeled as good and good becomes labeled as evil in the minds of corrupt leaders. And many of the people follow suit.

Immorality will begin to become the norm.

Sexual sins will often become commonplace to the point where they barely garner any attention, even in plain sight.

Tyrannical government leaders will become unconstrained in their rampage against God and all that He stands for, acting as gods themselves.

Human lives will become worth nothing in the eyes of the depraved government leaders and those who support that government’s policies.

It will reach a point where it seems completely hopeless, as though all is lost, and nothing can save that nation.

But God’s word has something to say about this.

The scripture at the beginning of yesterday’s devotional (Proverbs 14:34) said that “sin is a reproach to any people”.

The word “reproach” could also be replaced with “shame” or “disgrace”.

Judgment eventually comes to these nations if they do not repent.

It even happened to Israel, as we saw God allow evil kings to raid and overthrow them, multiple times, eventually exiling its people to faraway lands.

Israel became a vast wasteland, with only a tiny remnant of God’s chosen people left dwelling there.

You may ask why God would allow this to happen, especially to those He calls His own.

Let’s talk about that tomorrow.
