Bible Verse of The Day – 5-14-18

John 13:34-35 (NKJV) 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Showing people that we care is probably one of the most effective ways that they will see Christ in us.

But, caring can be one of the hardest things to do. Why? Because sometimes our emotions truly don’t care.

Ouch! I know this one can hurt, but if we are going to grow, we are going to have to hear the truth and feel it as well.

How can we care for someone when we feel that what they are doing is wrong or “off”? This is a good question.

The only way this can happen is that when we see something wrong we decide in our hearts we are going to try to understand why it’s like that.

We are going to have to press in and let God teach us. So, in return, we will care more through learning more about it.

In other words, we need to dig a little deeper instead of just giving up on them. Getting a better understanding as to why things are the way they are will help us care more.

How do we do this? Take the first step. Go to God and ask Him to show us what we may be missing. Let Him show us how can we be more understanding and caring in this situation.

Sometimes we are missing the most important thing and all we need is a little more understanding regarding it.

Second, we take what God has shown us and we listen and make the necessary adjustments within ourselves. This gives us what we need to be able to show them that, although we may not agree with what they do, we truly do care for them.

Third, we need to remember that people are responsible for their own choices and their own actions. No matter how much we try and stop them from doing what we don’t agree with, they are responsible for their actions. Not us. We can’t let it ruin our relationship with them if they continue to pursue it.

Our responsibility as a child of God is to love one another and to show them we care.

If we want to help people and show them that we care, we need to understand them better. We need to listen to them, seek God and ask Him to help us to care more, love more and not just run away if we don’t agree with something they may be doing, or the way they may be living.

Caring is loving. And loving is putting our opinions and ourselves aside to listen and to reach out and help others at whatever stage they are at in their life.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-26-18

Ephesians 5:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

These two verses are the sum of who we should be as children of God.

Though it is impossible to be 100% like God, He has told us to be imitators of Him in the way we act.

Jesus showed the world a kind of love that no one had ever seen. He put much time and effort into showing God’s love for people by walking it out in person. His love wasn’t fake or simulated. It was genuine.

And it was so pure that most could not understand or comprehend it. It was beyond their ability to make sense of it with human intellect.

Jesus loved to the point of giving His life for us. He spared no expense at proving this love. And when everything was said and done, He commanded us to love one another, even as He had loved us.

John 13:34 (NKJV) 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

So who are we to disagree or argue with God? How do we justify not loving others when Jesus himself has commanded us to do so?

We would find ourselves hard pressed to find a suitable excuse or justify our lack of love if we were to stand before Jesus and answer for that lack of love.

We all know that some people are harder to love than others. And some days it’s harder to love anyone than on other days.

But, with the Holy Spirit guiding us, and us obeying Him, our excuses drop like specks of dust in comparison to the love Jesus showed us all.

Church, let’s work hard to love the way God has told us to. It might be hard in the beginning, but as we let Him lead us, and we follow that leading, we will find it getting easier and easier.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-15-18

1 Corinthians 13:4-5 (NKJV) 4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;

Love does a lot! I guess we can say that’s why God wants us to walk in it. Not only to walk in it when we feel good or are having a good day, but walk in it even when we feel lousy. Or when we just want to be left alone.

We all have those days. They kind of sneak up on us. And we think because we are having a bad day, we have the right to just act the way we want, or say what we feel. But that’s not the case.

God wants us to rise above how we feel, and persevere by being kind to others, especially in those moments.

When we can do this, then we will know that we are growing and maturing in Christ.

Love is where it’s at.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-21-17

1 John 4:19 (NKJV) 19 We love Him because He first loved us.

The most important thing we can do in this life is follow the verse above and truly fall in love with our God. Fall in love with our Creator, our Lord, our Provider, our Healer, our King of kings and our Savior, Jesus Christ.

What do we mean by falling in love?

Some of us might not even know what love really is. Maybe some of us have never been loved the way we should have been. And the love we think we know isn’t love at all.

Jesus is our example of LOVE.

Jesus’s love for us is true love. He loves us so much that He gave Himself for us. Literally. That’s right. He died a cruel death for you and for me.

And while He was here, He served us. He healed us. He clothed and fed us. He delivered us from demonic attacks. He protected us from our enemies. He made a way for us to have a relationship with Him. And He made us a home in Heaven for when it’s our time to leave this place.

This love is for us all.

Go after Him. Find Him. He will teach us how to love like this as we walk in a relationship with Him.

A relationship takes two people, talking to each other, hearing each other, serving each other, respecting each other, caring for each other. We go the extra mile for each other. Even unto death. These are all things we will do when we truly love.

Start a relationship with our beloved Jesus Christ. Everything else around us will fall into place, one piece at a time. We will learn how to love and deal with things accordingly.

Our words will be tempered, our anger, unforgiveness and bitterness will eventually go away. Our cares will be more for others than for ourselves. We will handle ourselves differently and our situation will change for the better.

Focus on falling in love with Him first. He will work out all the other details over time.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-25-17

Matthew 5:44-45 (NKJV) 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

I know what you’re thinking; how in this world do we love our enemies?

This is a big thing and most times we just skim over it, because deep down we all know it’s impossible for man to love his enemy.

So let’s take a look at what an enemy is. An enemy is someone that is antagonistic to another; one seeking to injure, overthrow, or confound an opponent.

You mean to tell me I have to love those who want to antagonize me, injure me or overthrow me, and that’s only one part of this verse?

How do we do this with the right heart and not just go through the motions? How do we keep our heart from not wanting to do the same things back to them that they’ve done to us?

We are human, with feelings, and those feelings sometimes scream really loud to do the opposite of what these verses are saying. How do we win over what our own feelings, mind, heart and our attitude are saying? It’s so hard, and seems impossible.

Matthew 19:26 (NKJV)26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

The first thing we need to do is get out of our heads. We can’t do this with intellect. We have to get into the Word of God. God’s word has a way of softening the hardest of hearts.

When hurtful things come our way, it can cause our heart to get hard quickly and our minds start to race. There is no room for God when our heart has been hardened and we are operating solely on intellect.

The second thing to do is to try to avoid spending a lot of time with negative people.

We should surround ourselves with people who can find the good things even in hard times. That doesn’t mean finding people who don’t face reality. But people that see things for what they are and choose to give it to God. They spend more time praying, listening and worshiping Him than they do trying to be in control of the situation.

Third, we shouldn’t speak whatever we feel like speaking or saying in that moment of anger, persecution or when we’re being accused. Learn to hold the tongue and wait on God to bring understanding so that when we do speak, if needed, it is well worth saying and good seeds are planted.

Without God it is impossible to live out these verses. But, with Him, we can learn to walk in them and live them out daily. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-1-17

Ephesians 5:2 (NKJV) 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Walk in love. What does that mean anyway?

How do we walk in love on a daily basis? How do we emulate Christ and share the love of God with those around us in a way that will draw them to Him?

First, we need to learn to let God love us. We need to draw near to God so He can draw near to us.

Psalm 73:28 (NKJV) 28 But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, I may declare all Your works.

If we are letting God love us and we are drawing near to Him, His love will become a bigger part of who we are.

And as He becomes bigger in our own lives, our passion for Him will grow. And it will become easier for us to let His love flow through us, out to those around us.

Before too long, our outlook on life in general will begin to change. And as that happens, we will be less likely to despise those people who irritate or frustrate us and more likely to see them through His eyes of love, grace, mercy and compassion.

Then, walking in love will come naturally.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-1-17

Colossians 3:14 (NKJV) 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

Love. It is the bond of perfection. What does that mean?

True love is the love that God teaches us to show one another. This is the kind of love that never fails.

Love based solely on emotions or feelings can fail. And we see this so much in the world around us. Sadly, it has even permeated the church… the body of Christ.

But God has called us to love one another with His love. Because His love isn’t subject to the whims of man. His love lasts and perseveres no matter what comes along.

When we love with His love, it will be a lifelong love that endures every possible trial or hardship. It will never fail or falter.

His love will never involve fear of any kind. There will never be a fear of love leaving. There will never be a fear of harm coming from love that is perfect.

1 John 4:18 (NKJV) 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

We are all frail human beings. We stumble, trip and fall down.

We make mistakes. We make poor choices. But in spite of this, God loves us anyway, every minute of every day.

He has told us to do the same; to love with His love. To lay aside our fickle emotions and desires and love like He loves.

Are we up to the challenge?

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-30-16

1 John 4:12(NKJV) 12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.

When we do something out of kindness and love, for someone who is in trouble, struggling, lonely, mistreated, etc., we just took advantage of an opportunity to show them God and His love toward them.

Even though no one has seen God at any time, through our actions of love, using our hands, feet, words, finances, and whatever else God shows us to do for others, His love becomes perfected in us.

God’s love is shown through our actions. The very things we do for others. The very way we carry ourselves.

If we get upset and we start flipping out, hollering and accusing, looking down at someone because of their weakness, errors, faults, etc., we then completely give up what could be the only opportunity we may get to show them God.

Be alert and on guard for these moments. Not only will they change the life of someone in need, but they will change our lives as well, as we see God move through us.

Love you all. Keep on being a light!

Matthew 5:14 (NKJV) 14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-14-16

James 1:22 (NKJV) 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

The Word. It’s our owners manual for life here on earth, as followers of Christ.

It’s God’s words, spoken to us. It feeds us. It sustains us. It directs us. It guides us in day-to-day life. And it lays the foundation for our faith.

And so, as believers, we are told to be “doers of the word, and not only hearers”.

As James penned those words by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he was actually referring to what he had written in verse 21, which said this:

James 1:21 (NKJV) 21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

So he was addressing sin and wickedness in human beings, admonishing believers to lay those things aside and follow God’s direction for their lives.

And as we do that, we should also be doers of the word in other ways too.

One critical area where we should be doers of the word is when it comes to loving others.

Jesus told us to love one another. And He didn’t tell us that it’s optional. He didn’t suggest it. He didn’t ask us to do it. He told us to do it. It was a command.

Showing others the love of God shows them who God is. It shows them that what we say is genuine, and that our words mean something. And by this, we show them that God isn’t just some far-away entity who doesn’t care about us. He can be trusted and He loves them.

So as we walk this earth and tell people things, we also need to make sure that we do things as well. Because by doing and not just speaking empty words, we prove that our faith is genuine, pointing them to God and showing them that they can trust Him, as well.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-18-16

Matthew 5:46 (NKJV) 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?

To love someone who gives love in return is natural for all of us. It isn’t a challenge at all. It’s easy. Even the ungodly can love those who will love them back.

But to love someone who returns no love, or returns hatred, is difficult, for even the spiritually mature person. This is a challenge that most of us would fail miserably at almost every time.

Many of us will deny that we’re like this. But it’s safe to say that if we were to observe ourselves on a regular basis, and how we interact with others, we would probably not like what we saw at all. We would probably fall to our knees and repent before God for our lack of love, compassion and understanding.

So we challenge you today to love those who give us no love in return; The unlovable, the miserable, the cranky, the spiteful, the cynical and the hateful people around us.

Jesus implored us to do this. He even took it one step further and instructed us to pray for those very same people.

Luke 6:27-28 (NKJV) 27 “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.

This is our “homework” for the days and weeks ahead, to love everyone we encounter, whether they reciprocate or not. Are we up to the task?

With God’s spirit we can be!
