Bible Verse of The Day – 12-11-17

James 4:13-14 (NKJV) 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

Today we got word that our nephew had passed away. He was in his early 30s. He had been battling cancer for several months. And now his fight was over. He went home to be with Jesus.

We don’t write this to ask for sympathy or for anyone to mourn his passing. But as a reminder that life is precious, and it is very short. For some, it is shorter than for others.

Not a single one of us is guaranteed that we will have a tomorrow. Yet, so many times we tend to live like we have decades ahead of us.

We plan so many things, sometimes years in advance. We put off spending time with our loved ones because we think we will do it “later, when we have time”. We treat life like tomorrow is promised to us and guaranteed to arrive right on schedule.

But here’s the honest truth. Tomorrow will arrive. The sun will rise again in the morning. But neither you nor I are promised that we will be here to see it.

Our lives are like a vapor, like the morning mist that is here for only a short time and then fades away and is gone.

So, we encourage you to cherish today. We need to take advantage of the time we have here and not squander it away on meaningless activities.

Love those that God has placed in your life. Forgive and seek forgiveness. Help others and allow others to help you, if needed.

And while we’re here on earth, let us be like beacons of God’s light, shining on all those we come into contact with.

Shine brightly while we’re here.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-26-15

Ecclesiastes 1:14 (NKJV) 14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

In the early hours of the morning of Wednesday, December 23, I had a very vivid dream.

In the dream, I was made aware that there would be a loss of life very soon. I hugged the one who was going to be dying. And I wept very strongly as I held them. There was someone with me in the dream who I have known for many years. As I wept, the passion with which I cried also overtook him and he began to weep.

And as the tears ran down his face, he said “boy, I’m not used to this”. It was as if he was experiencing God-driven emotion and passion for the first time.

The dream was so vivid and so real that the power of my weeping woke me up.

As I lay there contemplating it, my eyes were wet with tears. And as I shared the dream with Pastor Ellie in the wee hours of the morning, the power of the dream was still overwhelming, and I had to fight back tears many times as I told her about it.

And even now, as I write this, I can feel the strength of the dream still strong in my spirit.

I asked God to reveal to me why this was so strong… so powerful, when the one who was dying wasn’t anyone in my family or close to me.

And He showed us both that we need to have a zeal for life that is strong and that life not be taken for granted. We need to live each day to the fullest, making the most of every minute and loving those around us with His love and compassion.

Our lives are brief in the scope of eternity and what we do here must leave an everlasting footprint, an impression that will be felt for many years to come.

We can all easily get caught up in the chase. The chase for riches. The chase for popularity. The chase for fame. The chase for material things. And in the end, it’s all just stuff. Stuff that won’t make a single bit of difference when we’ve taken our last breath and have left this earth behind.

In the end, it’s all vanity and grasping for the wind.

And so we want to pass this along to all of you. Live life with a holy passion. Don’t take one breath for granted.

Proverbs 27:1 (NKJV) 27 Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth.

Live with God’s compassion and love with God’s love.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-17-15

Proverbs 27:1 (NKJV) 27 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

We spend so much of our time planning. We plan for the future, as if we’re sure that we will have a handle on everything and will be able to carry out our plans.

We go through today as if we know for sure that we will have a tomorrow. Sometimes the choices we make, the things we do and the things we say make a statement about how we view tomorrow.

Planning isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We should be organized and responsible, using our time wisely. And we should never live in fear of what tomorrow might bring. We have to have faith, knowing that it’s all in God’s hands.

But we need to be careful that we never view tomorrow as a right, as something that we’re guaranteed to have. Tomorrow is never a right. It’s always a privilege.

We are only half way through 2015, and already we have known people who have passed away who would be viewed as too young to die. 56 years old, 44, 36 and others who hadn’t “lived their lives out yet”, are all gone. And all of them suddenly.

Not a single one of us knows what tomorrow will bring, or if we will even have a tomorrow.

We need to treat each precious day with respect. We need to love those in our lives as though we might not have a tomorrow to show them our love. And we need to care for others in a way that they will know we mean it.

We touch on this subject every so often, not to be morbid or depressing, but as a gentle reminder for all of us.

If we, or those that we know, were to be gone tomorrow, would we have loved and given 100 percent?

Something to think about.
