Bible Verse of The Day – 8-10-22

Romans 12:1 (NKJV) 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

Living holy lives is a very important part of our walk with God.

Many may think that because we live under God’s grace, there is no need for holy, righteous living. This could not be further from the truth.

Others may even say that because Jesus was so loving and kind, and because He spent time hanging out with sinners, we don’t need to worry about holy living.

Again, this is not truth.

Take note than when Jesus spent time with sinners, He spoke truth to them, encouraging them to get their hearts right with God.

In John 8:11, when He spoke with the woman caught in adultery, He told her to “go and sin no more”.

Some of the original texts actually said, “go, and from now on, sin no more”.

And if we compare various translations, many of them indicate that Jesus was inferring that she needed to leave her life of sin.

So, He made it clear to her that she needed to leave her sin behind and do what is right in God’s eyes.

And this applies to us as well.

Paul used the word, beseech. That’s a very strong word, meaning to plead, to implore, to ask urgently, or to beg.

Based on that, it’s evident that Paul wanted badly for the Roman Christians to leave their lives of sin behind.

Paul was referring here mainly to sexual sins, since Rome was well-known for this. But we need to apply this to every aspect of our lives.

And I like what Paul said about our lives; presenting them as living sacrifices. In other words, we need to give our bodies to God. Dedicate them to Him.

Doing this will cause us to take the choices we make much more seriously, since we are now living as though we do not belong to ourselves, but to Him.

1 Corinthians 6:20 (NKJV) 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

We have been bought. We are not our own. Let’s be careful to live like we are His.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-20-19

1 Thessalonians 4:7-8 (NKJV) 7 For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. 8 Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.

Learning to live a clean life is all part of being God’s child.

We are probably going to have to let some old habits go, and pick up some new ones. We may have to let go of certain friends, as well, and those things that affect us in a bad way.

For instance, maybe we have enjoyed hanging out with certain people up until now. Changing our stance in life will cause us to change our surroundings. We may no longer feel comfortable being around certain situations, or certain types of entertainment and activities. We may find ourselves troubled or getting irritated when we are.

This is not a bad or negative thing. It is normal. It is the voice of holiness speaking to uncleanness saying, “you are not welcome here any longer.” And we can’t reject the voice of holiness.

When we become God’s child it will feel like we are more conscious of our behavior and actions. We will be convicted strongly at times. The worst thing we can do is to ignore it. It will only cause us to be miserable.

If we let holiness live and speak to us, and we follow that leading, we will remain in the peace of God.

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV) 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-1-18

Romans 12:1 (NKJV) 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

Ever wonder what God wants you to do with your life?

Present your body as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God. There you have it.

This is what He expects from us. It is our reasonable service to Him.

Many people might look at this and think that this is an awful lot to ask of us. But think of it this way; Jesus literally presented His body as a sacrifice, even unto death. So is it really too much for God to require of us that we present our bodies as living sacrifices?

He isn’t asking us to die for Him. He’s simply asking us to live our lives in a holy and righteous way.

And what’s more is that He has given us His word and the Holy Spirit so that we are perfectly equipped to be able to do this. We just need two things; the knowledge that He has asked this of us, and the desire to do it.

Where do we stand? Which side are we choosing? Light, or darkness?

It’s up to us.

1 John 1:6 (NKJV) 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-16-16

Romans 12:1 (NKJV) 12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

Our bodies are not our own. We belong to the One who created us and redeemed us.

As followers of Christ, it’s important that we not use our bodies for anything that dishonors God or is contrary to His word.

Are we partaking in things that damage our bodies? Are we smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, using drugs, engaging in promiscuous behavior? Are we watching unsuitable things on TV, in movies or on the Internet?

Are we listening to music that promotes racism, hatred, sex outside of marriage, violence and other types of worldly behavior?

Are our mouths sanctified? Or are we uttering profanity, hatred toward others, slanderous words or gossip?

This message is not meant to be a scolding or a reprimand. But a reminder that we do not belong to ourselves, and that God wants us to live holy, sanctified lives that exemplify Him each day. And He has equipped us to be able to do so by the power of His spirit dwelling in us.

1 Peter 1:15-16 (NKJV) 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-3-15

2 Corinthians 6:17 (NKJV) 17 Therefore “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.”

God has chosen to dwell in each of us if we are His child.

Because of this, there are things that we should and should not do. He is a holy God and wants us to live holy lives.

We are made righteous by the blood of Christ, clean before God, with our sins forgiven.

We are, however, called to live lives that are pleasing to Him, doing our best to stay away from things that are unholy.

Coming out from among them doesn’t necessarily refer to physically segregating ourselves from the world. It does refer to differentiating ourselves from the world in our behavior.

According to Galatians 5:19-21, here are some of the things we need to avoid: adultery, fornication, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like.

And those are just some of the things we are to avoid!

What’s equally important is the condition of our heart, too. We can avoid all of the things that God tells us to stay away from, but if our heart is far from Him, we are just going through the motions and our abstaining is nothing more than legalism.

But when our heart longs after God and truly wants to please Him, we will do whatever is necessary to avoid the things that displease God and do everything we can to please Him.

So let’s ask ourselves today; where is our heart? Do we partake of the things that displease Him, or do we live to please Him?

Only we can answer that question.
