Bible Verse of The Day – 3-5-24

Galatians 5:1 (NKJV) 1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

Do you know we can put ourselves in bondage all over again if we don’t take the right steps in keeping ourselves free?

Now, we are not talking about us losing our salvation here. We are talking about sin that keeps us from growing in our relationship with Christ. Sin that puts distance between us and God.

Once God has set us free, we must put forth effort to keep that freedom.

Every day we get up we must make sure nothing puts us back into that same sin or bondage again.

We have to fight to keep our flesh from wanting to go back. Why? Because flesh loves routine, loves comfort, and it loves familiarity.

Sin is something that comes natural to us. We were all born sinners.

We have to remember before we were saved we were once used to conducting ourselves by the lust of our flesh. Now we must fight off the desires of our flesh and mind.

Ephesians 2:3 (NKJV) 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

It can be very hard to do at times.

However, when temptation comes (and it will come), remember that with the help of the Holy Spirit, and our desire not to fall into the same trap again, we can defeat the enemy and escape the temptation. God’s word tells us this!

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV) 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

So, let us not fall back into the same bondage. Let us be completely free through the way of escape that God provides in that moment of great temptation!

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-3-23

Hebrews 2:18 (NKJV) 18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

Jesus was tempted in all areas. And He remained sinless.

Was it easy for Him?

No. It was exceedingly painful at times. But because He was tempted, He knows what temptation involves and what it feels like. And He can sympathize with us.

You see, if you don’t go through things yourself, you can’t really help others. If you don’t understand what they are dealing with, you can’t walk them through it.

Jesus understands.

Some of us today are being tempted repeatedly, to the point where we are about ready to just give in so it will stop.

But, remember that we have dwelling in us Him who helps us not to give in.

He is our rock, our strength. He is the giver of wisdom, and He will help us to discern and make right decisions.

His strength is made perfect in our weakness, we just need to walk in it.

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV) 9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

I say to whoever is struggling this moment with temptation, “you are not fighting it alone”.

You have Someone who will aid you and help you to overcome it. Cry out for His help. Don’t be ashamed.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-20-21

James 1:13-15 (NKJV) 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

Some might look at this scripture and just brush over it, not giving it much thought. It seems pretty straight forward, after all.

But look more closely. In addition to telling us why we repeatedly fall into temptation, it also tells us something else very critical; God does not tempt us.

This single truth absolutely shatters the idea or suggestion that God made us in a way that causes us to habitually sin, become addicted to certain types of sin, or to live lifestyles that contradict His word.

Let me explain.

Some may say that God created them in a certain way, with certain desires or drives.

And since this is so, He must have also created the desire in them, for example, to consume extreme amounts of alcohol which led to them become an alcoholic.

The same could be said for drug addicts, addicts to porn, sex, lying, stealing, etc.

We wrote a teaching series recently on various sins that the Bible says will prevent us from inheriting the kingdom of God. In that series, we outlined the sins listed in the verses we were teaching on (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).

We didn’t make up this list. It was taken directly from scripture. We also didn’t make up the end result of being excluded from inheriting the kingdom of God. It was taken from scripture.

God’s word is truth, plain and simple.

In response to day 6 of that series, which dealt with homosexuality, someone asked us about people who believe that God made homosexuals that way; born with an attraction to the same sex.

They asked a legitimate question. And the answer is in the verse above; God does not tempt us.

This solidly refutes the idea that God made them that way.

There could be any number of reasons why this attraction happens; emotional trauma, or abuse of some type. Or maybe it stems from a thought or a temptation that they entertained that grew into a full-blown lust that they now can’t escape.

Let’s be clear. This is not to throw stones at people attracted to those of the same sex. It is to offer some insight and to speak truth that can lead to freedom from this kind of bondage.

As mentioned above, this can also apply to people who repeatedly lie (liars), steal (thieves), abuse drugs (addicts) and alcohol (alcoholics) or those who engage in sex outside of marriage (fornicators).

The sin itself does not matter. The source of that sin does.

So, we need to get understanding in this area. Once we do, it will change the way we look at sin; even those “lifestyle sins” that can destroy us and those around us.

God is faithful to deliver us if we are willing to ask Him to.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-2-21

Psalm 119:160 (NKJV) 160 The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

God’s word is truth. Amen.

Knowing His word will help us discern the times and keep us ahead of the game.

One of the benefits to being in His word regularly is staying alert to the ways the enemy is working against us.

One of those ways is through various types of addictions. The enemy will use them to work on us, little by little, to try to take us out.

How many of us believers struggle with some sort of addiction? Let us be real. This is our moment to own up and get help.

We all have dealt with addictions at one time or another. Whether small or big, they still have control over us.

There are addictions out there that will kill us physically and spiritually. We are not kidding when we say this. Be aware.

Usually they start off small, in little ways. We get these tendencies to try this or that, thinking they are harmless. But don’t be tempted because it will bite us in the end.

I was shopping one day. I went to check out. The cashier asked me, as they always do, ”would you like to use your credit card?”.

I said, “no, thank you. I don’t have a credit card”.

She continued by saying, “well, if you get one today you can save 10% on your purchase”.

I said, “no, thank you. No credit card for me”.

She continued to press me, saying, “are you sure? You shop in here often, and you could save a lot.”

Again, I said, “no, thank you, I save by shopping only when there are sales or discounts. I don’t have a credit card to my name and I am very happy and free”.

After all that she said, “Oh, that’s so nice. Good for you!!”.

Credit cards are not terrible if we use them correctly. But not everyone is disciplined enough to do that. And they can be a temptation for some, so be careful.

Addictions usually start off small and end up a big problem. So watch out for the people tempting you. They are smooth as butter. They know all the right words to say.

Other addictions like drinking, lusting, sexual perversion, smoking and overeating can do much harm to us.

There are some believers that get a thrill out of verbally abusing or humiliating people in front of others. That is an addiction to power.

There are a lot of things we can be addicted to.

Make sure we are paying attention and listening to God’s word. He will correct us and help us get free from these things.

They may seem innocent on the surface, but eventually they will bring destruction. They will cause some sort of death, either in relationships with people or with our Heavenly Father.

His word is clear on certain addictions.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NKJV) 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

Anything that comes between us and God that we can’t live without, or keep from doing, is the very thing we need to do away with.

The only thing that should matter more to us than anything is pleasing our Father with our words and our actions, and spending time with Him.

Psalm 19:14 (NKJV) 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-25-21

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Because our God is so incredibly mighty, we tend to look for and expect that everything He does will be a massive show of signs and wonders.

You know; smoke, earthquakes, thunder and lightning, etc.

Because of this, we tend to overlook the simplistic ways that He does most things because they’re just too, you know, simple.

And so it is with temptation.

We have somehow come to believe that in order to fight temptation we need to have some secret formula of special prayers, the laying on of hands and the casting out of demons in order to be able to fight off temptation when it comes.

On the contrary, God tells us that we need to resist the devil and he will flee from us.

Now that doesn’t sound very complicated, does it?

Nope!

Maybe it’s time that we stop overcomplicating so many things and just take God at His word, even if it’s very simple and direct, with no bells, whistles, flashing lights or miraculous signs attached.

Being tempted? Resist.

Legitimately, sincerely resist, and watch the devil run.

God’s word is true!.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-9-21

James 1:12 (NKJV) 12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Temptation comes to us all. Not one of us is exempt.

What we are tempted by will vary from person to person.

We all have different weaknesses. It’s those weaknesses that cause us to be pulled in the direction of things that can destroy us or do great harm to us and those around us.

It’s up to us to take the necessary steps to disarm the devil in his war against us.

We do this in different ways, depending on who we are and what we wrestle with.

In the end, though, there is common ground between us all. And the steps we take to stay away from these sins is also similar.

1. Stay in God’s word. Feast on it. We can’t fight if we’re not strong. We can’t be strong if we’re under-nourished.

2. Learn to hate the sin that ensnares us. Until we hate the sin, we will continue to gravitate back to it, toying with it until we fall into that same sin again and again.

3. Don’t tempt God. We can’t expect to fight temptation and escape sin if we constantly flirt with it. The Holy Spirit will warn us, and He will help us turn from it. But if we constantly throw ourselves at the sin, it will eventually win and it will defeat us.

James 1:14 (NKJV) 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.

4. We need to know and understand that when temptation comes (and it will come), God will always, always, always provide a way of escape. He will never leave us cornered and helpless. We just have to be willing to turn from it.

On that note, I want to mention one last thing; something very specific that we often overlook.

God’s way of escaping temptation will seldom be anything that we would view as being miraculous. In fact, it’s usually so simple and lackluster that we fail to recognize it.

It’s this; we simply turn and walk away from it.

God gives us the ability to do this. He provides the warning, the opening, and the strength to walk away. We just have to be willing to listen, understand and obey His leading and His promptings.

So, if we’re looking for lightning bolts or rumblings of thunder from the sky, it’s time that we get back to reality and recognize how God works on a daily basis.

Regardless of His methods, He is faithful.

And He gives us what it takes to do the same; be faithful.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-2-21

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV) 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

God is faithful!!

He will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able to bear. Even when temptation may approach us, He will help us escape it, If we are listening, watching and praying.

Temptation is the devil’s way of getting us. And he does know our weaknesses.

But our faith and trust in God to help us escape will be the key to not letting it overtake us.

God is our strength. Through Him we can turn away quickly, as we submit to Him.

When we resist satan and his schemes, God’s word tells us the devil will leave.

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Those who are facing even the smallest temptation today, what are we waiting for?

Don’t play with it. Move on. It will not overtake us if we resist. He has made an escape out. Take it!!

We love you. God bless you. Enjoy your day.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-20-20

James 1:14 (NKJV) 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.

Temptation is something that so many wrestle with.

We’ve written about temptation a lot over the years. It’s a subject that’s familiar to most of us, since we’re all human beings.

Because we’ve written about it and studied it so much, we’ve gotten a deeper understanding of it and what really causes it, so we want to make sure that we share that with others.

As we have often taught, temptation in and of itself isn’t necessarily wrong.

But we have learned that there are definitely factors that come into play for each of us that dictate how we react to temptation and how it comes about to begin with.

Temptation begins in us because we are drawn away by our own desires.

This makes it plain and clear that the temptation comes based on a desire that is within us.

When I first got revelation of that, it was extremely eye-opening.

So, if we look at this at its most basic root, the temptations that we wrestle with are largely caused by what’s inside of us.

Let me explain.

If we have a weakness for something, that thing will be what tempts us.

If we have a weakness in the area of lust, we will be most tempted by things that draw on that weakness.

If we have a weakness for drugs or alcohol, those will be the things that cause us to struggle the most.

And the same can go for anything that we desire. That will be what causes us to struggle and stumble, over and over again.

You might ask, “So, how can I ever expect to overcome temptation if the root of it lies within me?”.

Here’s the answer.

The temptation, and the weakness that causes us to give in to it, will go away when the desire for the sin goes away. And that desire will go away when we finally surrender ourselves fully to God.

You see, it’s when we surrender to God that our desires begin to change.

We will no longer desire sex that is impure or improper. We will no longer desire drunkenness or the use of drugs to “escape” reality and the troubles of life. We will no longer covet things that are not ours. We will no longer steal. We will no longer be greedy. And the list could go on infinitely.

Why? Because as we submit to God and surrender to Him, He will replace those impure, unholy desires with new ones; desires that are in alignment with what He wants for us.

And those old desires, the ones that cause us to be so easily tempted? They will fall away, as the old man is slowly washed away and the new man is raised up and groomed by the Holy Spirit for righteous living.

We hope this will shed some new light on this topic and help everyone understand it better, so that fighting temptation won’t be something that occupies every waking hour for so many believers.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-20-20

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV) 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

With temptation there will also always come a way for us to escape it. As we walk through life there is temptation all around us.

Nowadays everything is so carefree.

People do what they want, dress the way they want, be who they want. It’s all about what we want to do and how we want to do it. Just about everything and anything goes.

It’s hard for Christians not be tempted. At times when we are tired and we have been busy, with a lot on our minds, it’s easy to get caught off guard. It’s going to happen to the best of us.

But remember, no matter what we are tempted with, God has made an escape. So, don’t fall for it. And don’t try using the excuse that we were caught off guard.

It’s up to us to be alert. It’s up to us to be watching, listening and sharp. Why? Because we have an enemy that roams about looking for those he can devour, including followers of Christ.

He wants to destroy every one of us. And tempting us is his way.

1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV) 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Stay vigilant, alert, attentive and awake. If temptation tries to overtake us, God is always there with an escape plan.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-25-19

2 Corinthians 11:13-14 (NKJV) 13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.

It’s important to know and understand that satan will try to come as an angel of light.  He will try to tempt us with things that look really, really good because he knows we like GOOD!

And most times those things will be so very close to the real deal that it is hard to tell them apart. It will be pretty, shiny and have bells and whistles to make sure it gets our attention.

We can be sure if it’s from him, it will bring nothing but destruction to us one way or another.

We have to learn to see through his temptation and his plan to bring destruction upon us.

He will use things that we may need or things that we really want, including finances, material things or even someone’s appearance.

In trying to throw us off, he will even go so low as to use ministers and spiritual leaders that have backslidden in their walk with God. In order to stop him we have to shut it down by resisting him.

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

It’s not always easy to figure out what he is up to because he is sneaky and he will disguise himself and his plan to get us to take his bait. But when we do see it for what it is, we can’t hesitate and we can’t play with it.

And we can’t even entertain the thought of “just checking it out”. We need to move quickly and run far away from it.

If he is using people, drop them. If he is using finances, dump it. If he is using appearances to tempt us, let them go. If he is moving through a leader, move on from there and find another place to go and learn, etc.

Cry out to God today and ask for His help in keeping our feet from falling into the trap of the enemy. Amen.

Psalm 56:13 (NKJV) 13 For You have delivered my soul from death. Have You not kept my feet from falling, That I may walk before God In the light of the living?

Be sure to let God guide us in our choices and decisions before we say “YES”. He will show us if we are on the verge of getting hooked by our enemy.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-29-19

Matthew 4:1 (NKJV) 1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

Jesus fasted for 40 days. And at the end of that time, the devil came to tempt Him.

Because Jesus hadn’t eaten for 40 days, the devil offered Jesus what he thought would be the most likely thing to get Him to fall; food.

Jesus rebuffed the devil, telling him that man doesn’t live by bread alone, but by the word of God.

Matthew 4:4 (NKJV) 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

The devil tempted Him again, taunting Him and encouraging Him to throw Himself off of the high place they were on, telling Jesus that God’s angels would surely protect Him if He decided to do so.

Again, Jesus countered the devil, telling him that we should not tempt God.

Matthew 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”

The third attempt, the devil took Jesus to a very high place. He showed Jesus great kingdoms of the world and all of their glory, telling Him that if He would bow down to him, all of this could be His.

Once again, Jesus rebuked the devil, telling him to leave, and reminding him that we shall worship and serve God, and only God.

Matthew 4:10 (NKJV) 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

So, if Jesus, the Son of God relied on God’s word to rebuke the devil, how much more should we also rely on God’s word to defend ourselves from the wiles of the enemy?

How much more should we hide God’s word in our hearts to make sure we can stand strong when the pressure of temptation tries its hardest to drive us backwards and bring us to our knees?

Psalm 119:11 (NKJV) 11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.

His word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Let’s follow that light and stand strong in Him!

Psalm 119:105 (NKJV) 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
