Tag: Bible verses about learning from our mistakes

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-13-19

Psalm 69:5 (NKJV) 5 O God, You know my foolishness; And my sins are not hidden from You.

Sometimes we do things that can make us feel pretty foolish.

There are a few ways to look at these types of choices that we make.

1 – We can learn from our mistakes and glean wisdom and insights that we might not have had if we didn’t make that poor choice!

2 – We can use what we learn to help others avoid that same mistake.

3 – We get to see God move on our behalf, showing us His mercy, love and grace.

Not one of these is any more valuable than any of the others. They all work to make our lives better.

But, more importantly, they all can be used by God to shape us and mold us into the person He wants us to become.

It’s important that we remember that we are all works in progress. We all have flaws and rough spots that God is working to correct and smooth off. And the foolish things that we do are all just part of the process.

Yes, some things we learn more quickly than others. And yes, many times we make a poor choice knowing up front that it’s a poor choice. But if our hearts are in the right place, and we truly want to please God, we will eventually get it right, if we heed His guidance and follow His leading.

Remember, He is the Potter and we are like clay in His hands, being shaped and perfected each and every day.

Jeremiah 18:5-6 (NLT) 5 Then the Lord gave me this message: 6 “O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-26-16

1 Corinthians 13:11 (NKJV) 11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Growing up doesn’t just happen in one day. It takes years. Years of learning the ins and outs of what to do and what not to do. What to get caught up in and what not to get caught up in.

It’s the same with our Spiritual walk. It takes time. It really does. One day we may be able to do things that take a great deal of obedience and discipline and then other days, forget it! We blew it the first thing in the morning. We didn’t even get a chance to walk out the door, and bam! We opened our mouth and inserted our foot.

Why? Because we are all human and because we are growing and learning more every day.

So don’t get discouraged. Just keep growing, learning and trying to get things right. Some things will be extremely hard to stop, but don’t let that cause us to give up on it all.

Keep working it, because those things that are hard will take the most of us and God’s help to put away for GOOD.

Ask God for help if we feel we cannot get past it on our own. He will give us wisdom and the knowhow to win.

James 1:5 (NKJV) 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-30-16

1 Peter 3: 13-14 (NKJV) 13 And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.”

As we draw closer to Christ and we take His Word seriously we will begin to change. Our hearts will desire to do good and will work hard to discern and choose the right thing to do in every situation.

It doesn’t mean that we will be perfect, because everything we do is in part; Part flesh and part spirit. So there will be times when we may be having a hard day and we will act from the flesh. Those are the moments we usually know pretty quickly that what we just did we wish we could undo or take back.

Even though we can’t take it back, because it was already done and played out, we can own up to what we did and ask God to forgive us for it.

There may still be repercussions because of it, but at least we got it straightened out with God. And if we ask Him, He will help us with the rest as well.

Doing the right thing is important. Even if we fail at times, we can still turn things around by taking the right actions and trying to get it right.

Good is the way to go no matter what kind of day we are having or what situation we are in.

We are still blessed!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-4-15

Matthew 9:13 (NKJV) 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

OK, so maybe you’ve made some mistakes. We all do. But it doesn’t mean we have to stay there. It doesn’t mean we are ruined for life.

So many times we get into situations or messes and we think that because we blew it, we are done. We just messed up our walk with God and It’s over.

Wrong!

Praise be to God, for He called the sinners to repentance!

You know the old saying “we made our bed, so now we have to sleep in it”? Well, repentance helps to get us out of that messy bed.

To repent means to acknowledge we are wrong and then change our ways. It means we acknowledge that we are sinners and we completely surrender ourselves and our situation over to Him, asking Him for forgiveness and for HELP to correct the situation and help to teach us now not to do it again. We all are sinners and we all need His forgiveness.

So know that when we mess up, we don’t have to sleep in that mess forever. We have to wake up, get up and get out of that bed! How do we do this? By making a change in our hearts, through repenting and asking for forgiveness.

God forgives us immediately, but learning how to change our ways and make good decisions takes a lifetime. Some things will come easy and some will be hard.

We have to learn how to allow God’s desires to be stronger in us than our own desires. We have to learn to listen and allow the Holy Spirit’s promptings to help us make the right decisions.

As we begin to change in our hearts, our love for God becomes stronger than our love for ourselves. Causing us to want to make the right decisions all the time.

Do we always get it right? No. Sometimes we will and sometimes we won’t, but we always keep trying.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-11-15

Luke 15:18-20 (NKJV) 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.”’ 20 “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

This son had left his father on pretty bad terms. He had demanded to have his inheritance early, and then he left with it, abandoning his father and his family.

Only after he had wasted it all on the party life, and found himself homeless and feeding pigs to earn a small income did he come to his senses and decide to return home.

Ih his mind, he wasn’t even worthy to be called his father’s son any longer. He had determined that he would return home, even it if meant working as a hired hand on his father’s land.

You see, life had taught him some hard lessons that can never be learned in books, or even by word of mouth. Sometimes we just have to learn by walking through something. Some might call it “trial by fire”.

Many years ago Pastor Ellie was speaking with an elderly pastor friend of ours. She asked him “How can we just sit back and watch as our children make poor choices and get themselves into trouble?”.

And he answered her very wisely, with the voice of experience, saying “sometimes you just have to let them go through the fire”.

And so it was with this particular son. He had gone through the fire and learned some things the hard way. Now as he headed home, he fully expected to be shunned, and possibly not even welcomed home.

But as his father saw him in the distance, he ran to meet him, ecstatic that his lost son had returned home.

And so it is in our own lives. We make mistakes. Sometimes they are major mistakes. And sometimes we pay a dear price for those mistakes. And when we’ve walked through the fire, hopefully we’ve learned from it.

And we may feel like there is no way that God can still love us afterward. We feel dirty, stupid and unworthy of being loved.

But if we have a genuinely repentant heart, God welcomes us home with open arms, rejoicing that we’ve come back to Him.

We just have to humble ourselves and go to Him. He will never throw our mistakes in our face.

Is God speaking to you today? Don’t ignore His voice. And don’t be afraid to go to Him. He’s waiting for you with his arms wide open.
