Bible Verse of The Day – 10-25-24

1 Chronicles 28:9 (NLT) 9 “And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the Lord sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.

As David spoke with his son, Solomon, he was preparing him for his life ahead and his reign as king over God’s chosen people.

He told Solomon to “learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately.”

David was implying that Solomon must do more than just know who God is. He should become acquainted with Him, understand Him, and cherish Him, developing a relationship that goes beyond rituals and traditions.

David then gave Solomon some of the most important words of wisdom he could when he told Solomon to worship and serve God with his whole heart, and a willing mind.

The heart (the manner and attitude) with which we serve God speaks volumes about the strength and the nature of that relationship.

And this is why God places such importance on the condition of our heart.

Because out of it flow the springs of life.

Proverbs 4:23 (LSB) 23 Guard your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life.

What is in our hearts comes out. It manifests itself in the things we say and the actions we take. It proves who we are.

Allowing God to guard our heart creates a place within us that God can nurture and develop, shaping and molding us in the way He can best use us, and which benefits us as well.

God sees our heart, and He knows every thought and every plan.

Let us do as David counseled Solomon; learn to know God intimately, worshiping and serving Him with our whole heart and a willing mind, that we may seek Him and find Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-6-23

Exodus 32:1 (NKJV) 1 Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.”

As I was browsing through Exodus recently, I read this verse and I saw something that I had never seen before.

Most times when this verse is discussed, the message will focus on the fact that the Israelites abandoned Moses due to their impatience, and then demanded that Aaron make them a new god to lead them.

But this time, I saw something very different.

The Israelites did not abandon Moses. They abandoned God.

Why?

Because they plainly had no idea who God was. The verse above makes that abundantly clear.

This generation of Israelites had grown up in Egypt, a nation that worshipped idols and numerous false gods. The idea of one sovereign God was something foreign to them.

Moses knew God intimately because God had spoken directly to him, meeting with him face to face. And, in return, Moses had made the effort and taken the time to listen and obey.

The others only saw God as a means to an end; freedom from slavery and a solution to their current situation.

How about us?

Do we treat God the same way as the Israelites of that time, as a means to an end?

Are we looking only for rewards (blessings) and a solution to our situations?

Or have we taken the time to truly seek Him and learn of Him, so we can know Him intimately?

Moses was known as the greatest prophet of the Old Testament. That would not have happened simply because he spoke the words of God to the people of Israel.

It happened because he obeyed God. No, he didn’t do it perfectly. He dropped the ball a few times, and it cost him dearly. But his heart was to do the right thing. And God used him mightily because of it.

Can we say the same for ourselves? Do we honor God with our actions, not just with our words?

Do we seek Him diligently and with our whole heart, as His word tells us to do?

There are only two who know the answers to those questions. Us and God.

How we handle those answers is entirely up to us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-14-19

1 John 2:3 (NKJV) 3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.

Have you ever questioned whether you really know God or not?

Most of us do this from time to time for various reasons. It can be good to check ourselves and make sure we’re on the right path, so to speak.

But sometimes we might wrestle with this in the sense that we think we have no sure way to know. While that might seem true, there actually is a way to know!

The verse above tells us that we will know that we know Him if we keep His commandments.

And in verse 5, we are reassured that if we keep His word then we are “in Him”.

1 John 2:5 (NKJV) 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.

The thing to remember is that none of us will be perfect in our pursuit of Him.

We may make some poor choices from time to time that make us feel terrible. These things may cause us to question our sincerity in our relationship with Him.

While this might be frustrating for us, it also might be good for us to see where we really are. After all, we can’t make corrections if we don’t see where our heart truly lies.

On the positive side, the fact that we would even be bothered by doing the wrong thing tells us that our heart wants to do right.

Most times it’s just a matter of figuring out where it is that we keep slipping and falling, and then making adjustments that help us stop doing that thing over and over again.

God’s word tells us that He is faithful to help us resist temptation if we truly want to do the right thing.

He also tells us that if we seek Him with all our heart, we will find Him.

So, let’s be faithful and diligent to seek Him, listen for His voice and then do what he shows us to do.

Amen!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-19-17

John 15:4 (NKJV) 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

Many of us desire to serve God and fulfill His call on our life. But many also have no idea how to do this.

We wonder how to know what God wants us to do. We struggle with figuring it out and feel helpless when we don’t see anything that we would consider significant happening in our lives.

Many times, we watch others and see how God is using them. And we long for that in our own lives.

The truth is that it isn’t as complicated as we usually think it is. God has laid it all out for us in His word. But because it isn’t bright, shiny and exciting we tend to miss it.

In the verse above, Jesus tells us to abide in Him. He then goes on to tell us why; a branch cannot bear fruit if it doesn’t abide in the Vine.

And there we have it, “hidden” right in plain sight!

If we want to fulfill His call on our lives and be used by Him, we have to abide in Him. Unless we abide in Him, we are told plainly that we cannot bear fruit.

The enemy, and even some people, might have us believe that being used by God is complicated and impossible unless we have some special kind of anointing. We can’t be any further from the truth than that.

Simply put, the way to be used by God and live out His call on our lives is to abide in Him; to spend time with Him, get to know Him, learn who He wants us to be and then walk it out.

We can’t let the enemy, or anyone else, deceive us into thinking that being used by God requires some kind of extremely complicated steps. Sometimes the things God has us do can be difficult, but knowing Him isn’t!

Abide in Him. Bear fruit and live out His call on your life. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-8-14

Philippians 3:10 (NKJV) 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection…

That I may know Him.

What an awesome way to live life, endeavoring to know Him more deeply, more closely, more intimately.

Because when everything is said and done and our life is over, this is all that will matter, whether we knew Him or not.

If we know Him, our heart’s desire should be to know Him as fully and completely as possible. He is our source of life and everything that is good in life.

And if we know Him well, so many other things in our lives will reflect that, so that when we have lived our life and we are gone, we will have left a legacy of so much more than just being a nice person.

We will have left “little pieces of Jesus” all along the way. And when people remember us or think of us, they will also think of God.

And don’t take this as only a “when you’re gone” message. This applies to us each and every day, even while we’re still here. As we walk through this life, people should see us and see God in us.

And if people think of us or happen to have a conversation about us, let’s give them something good to think about or talk about!
