Bible Verse of The Day – 12-26-16

Matthew 18:32-33 (NKJV) 32 Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. 33 Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’

Does this remind us of ourselves? Have we maybe not shown mercy to someone else, even though we have been shown mercy in our own lives?

It can be so easy to look at others and pass judgment on someone based on one little tiny tidbit of their life that we see. Sometimes we will lack mercy when it comes to the life of another person in an area of their life where we have received mercy.

Maybe we see someone under the influence of alcohol and look down our noses at them, even though God rescued us from alcohol. Or maybe we show no mercy for someone who pulls out in front of us in traffic, even though we have done the very same thing on occasion.

We could go on and on with many, many examples of this, but it’s probably safe to say that we all get the point already.

So we just want to give a gentle reminder that God requires us to show the same mercy to others that He has shown to us.

James 2:13 (NKJV) 13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-9-16

Romans 14:11-13 For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.” 12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.

We are all going to bow before God one day and give account for ourselves. Knowing this, we all want to do the right things and make the right decisions.

But nonetheless, we have all wrestled, stumbled and failed from time to time.

It brings me great comfort to know that God does not expect us to be perfect, but He does expect us to go to Him for help with our weaknesses. Because it is in weakness that His strength is made perfect.

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV) 9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

We are a work in progress each and every day, and so are those around us. Yes, even those we see doing things we don’t agree with. Instead of judging, let us go to God with our own shortfalls and let His strength be made perfect in all our weakness. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-20-15

Matthew 7:1-2 (NKJV) 7 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

Each day, we all come into contact with many, many other people. We may not interact with all of them directly, in person, but we see them or pass by them in the course of our day.

As we see or come into contact with these people, we make a note in our mind about what we think of them.

We like them or dislike them. We think they are good or bad. We think they are moral or immoral. We think they are worthy of our time and attention or not, and many other things that we think in a matter of a few seconds. We pass judgment on them.

And we do this almost instantly, without really even making an effort to do so. It just happens. And we do this while knowing absolutely nothing about a person or their motives, their situation or their circumstances.

Each time we pass judgment on a person without knowing them or anything about them, our heart hardens a little more. And each new unfounded, groundless judgment causes a new layer of hardness to cover our heart.

Before we know it, our hearts are wrapped in so many hard layers and we feel justified in our judgments of others; self-righteous in our thoughts.

Bur God wants to break this terrible cycle in our minds. He wants to put an end to the way we see people and judge them needlessly.

And only He can break down the hardened layers that surround our hearts. Only He can show us who we really are and then help us to change. Without Him, we are powerless to change.

So many times when we judge others, we are so wrong, and our perception is so far off, yet we continue, day after day, doing this same thing.

Matthew 15:19 (NKJV) 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

People of God, it’s time for us to stop. It’s time to let God show us our thoughts and the damage that they do. And then we need to let Him break through those hardened layers that have encased our hearts, and destroy them once and for all.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-3-14

Matthew 7:1 (NKJV) 1 “Judge not, that you be not judged.

Being careful not to judge is a daily, minute by minute decision that we must work hard at doing every day.

Judging others can cause more harm than good, because we don’t know how to judge with righteous judgement. ONLY God can do this. We, as God’s children, have to understand this more than anyone.

As we walk this walk with Christ, the closer we get to Him, the more humble we should become; Not puffed up, not arrogant and definitely not untouchable.

Remember the woman at the well, in John 4:18? She’d had 5 husbands in her life. Jesus sat with her and talked one-on-one with her.

The woman that had a bleeding issue for twelve years, in Matthew 9:20, actually touched His garment, and He stopped and spoke to her in that moment of need, and brought healing to her.

We all need Jesus, and He is there for us, no matter what we have done. He is reachable!!

People need to be able to come to us and talk to us. And we in return should not be judging them in their situation. We are no better.

We might have been convicted in those areas and we may have changed or turned away from doing those things, but we should not push our convictions on anyone else.

Trying to force someone to see things the way we see them is not our job as God’s children. It’s different if we are asked for our opinion. Then we can share. But even in that, we should never push it on them.

We are called to love, not judge. Letting God do His job, and us doing ours, will make this world a better place. Amen.
