Bible Verse of The Day – 4-1-19

Nehemiah 2:12 (NKJV) 12 Then I arose in the night, I and a few men with me; I told no one what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem; nor was there any animal with me, except the one on which I rode.

Sometimes when God tells us or shows us something, the first thing we want to do is run and tell everyone else. We get excited and can’t seem to help ourselves.

But sometimes God wants us to hold onto what He says. And there are good reasons for that!

The verse above doesn’t expound on exactly why Nehemiah kept his upcoming mission a secret. But it was very likely because he knew that telling others would put him and the work he was setting out to do at risk.

God wants us all to learn this too. Sometimes He tells us something, or shows us something. He puts something in our heart to do and He wants us to hold onto it and protect it.

You see, we have an enemy. And the enemy’s goal is to steal, kill and destroy everything that is tied to God’s kingdom.

Learning to hold onto what God shows us will help keep it protected and hidden from prying eyes and ears. It will keep it protected from hindrances and possible destruction. It may well even protect us in some way.

So, despite the urge to tell people about everything that God has placed in our hearts to do, we need to remember to be careful and use discernment, given to us by His Spirit, to learn when to hold and when to tell.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-25-19

Luke 12:54-58 (NKJV) 54 Then He also said to the multitudes, “Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming’; and so it is. 55 And when you see the south wind blow, you say, ‘There will be hot weather’; and there is. 56 Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?

Jesus very seldom scolded the crowds who came to hear Him speak. He usually reserved that for the religious leaders. He frequently called those leaders hypocrites.

But in the verse above, Jesus was addressing a crowd of people. And though there were very likely religious leaders in the crowd, Jesus didn’t single them out when He spoke the words above. He was addressing everyone!

Jesus was emphatic about everyone learning to discern the times. He wanted them to understand that everything is not necessarily what we see with our natural eyes. He wanted them to learn to see things in the spiritual realm also.

And so it is with us, His followers, over 2,000 years later. It is critical that we learn to discern the times and recognize what’s happening around us, even if it might not be obvious to everyone.

God wants each and every one of us to live our lives by His spirit, not just by what we see with our eyes. He wants us to learn to hear Him and understand what His voice is saying, even when it might not always be easy to do so.

This is why it’s important for all of us to not just be reading His word, but immersing ourselves in it!

His word is what gives us understanding about all things. That includes the things of this world and the things of spiritual substance.

So let us be sure to not just snack on His word once in a while, but let us feast on it regularly, so we will learn to live by the Spirit, seeing what natural eyes cannot see, not by the flesh, being blind to everything He is showing us.

Galatians 5:25 (NKJV) 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-10-18

John 6:35 (NKJV) 35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

As believers it’s important that we understand that some things in God’s word deal with the natural man and the natural world, while others speak specifically of the spiritual man and the spiritual world.

This is what caused so many people to scoff at Jesus when He spoke, because they were so spiritually dull that they couldn’t see that He spoke symbolically and from a spiritual point of view, not just of natural things.

This caused many to think that He was way off with some of the things He said. Many accused Him of being crazy simply because they didn’t have the spiritual discernment to know that He spoke spiritually, not just naturally.

As we read and spend time in His word, it’s also important for us to have that same understanding and discernment. We need to know when God is speaking of the natural and when He is referring to the spiritual.

Luke 12:56 (NKJV) 56 Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?

As we get this kind of understanding, we will begin to see and understand more and more of what His word is really saying. Our grasp of spiritual things will grow and develop, and we will become more and more mature as believers.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-18-18

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV) 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

How can we tell if what we are entering into is from God or not?

It can be hard to discern sometimes, especially if the thing we are attempting to do, or the opportunity that is before us, appears to be something that will bring about good things.

One of the things we have learned is to not assume anything when it comes to making decisions, even if something looks good. We don’t touch it unless we go to God and we both feel it is the right move to make.

There are things we have given up, turned down, because it was not what God wanted us to do. They appeared to be very good things. Some appeared to be great things, and it appeared that they would have helped us out a lot at the time. But, He had something much better in store for us.

Looking back later on, we were glad we listened and followed His leading because we could see why He had us turn them down.

In some cases, we may not know for sure at first. We may feel like we have to take a step in that direction. But if it is God, there will be a peace that comes with it that will reassure us, even when we still aren’t 100% sure. It will be there to guide us until we do know for sure.

Another way to tell if something is from God or not is by whether it interferes with our relationship with Him.

Is it taking up all of our time and all of our thoughts? Is it pulling us away from Him, instead of toward Him? Is it affecting our attitude in a bad way?

You see, God will always be watching out for our best interest. He will make sure that if He has us involved in anything or with anyone, it will somehow compliment what He is already doing in us and through us.

We should always be growing closer to Him. He will never put something in front of us that will pull us away from Him.

If something we entered into is causing us to backslide, let’s ask God for forgiveness, and for His help with getting back on track. We need to be willing to do whatever is necessary to fix it.

He will lead us if we ask for His help. It’s up to us to want to follow.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-28-17

2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV) 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

God wants us to be diligent in our walk with Him so we can get His approval.

What does that mean and how do we do that? Let’s take a look.

First, we need to be studying His word. This is the only way we can learn about and get a better understanding of who He wants us to be.

Through it, we will also gain a better understanding of Him. And this will lead to a better, stronger relationship with Him.

And as we go through life and its trials, we will learn how to walk in victory, living and walking by God’s spirit. We will not be ashamed because we will learn to let Him lead us through everything we face.

And as we study and walk out His word, we will gain valuable insight as to the truth of it. That truth will give us a strong spirit and better understanding of spiritual things. In turn, we will have better discernment of the many things we encounter in everyday life.

This spells victory for us on a daily basis.

Studying His word isn’t just for “Bible scholars”. It’s for every believer, regardless of age, level of education or any other factor.

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-19-17

Jeremiah 1:5 (NKJV) 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

Do we let people influence who we are and how we act?

God created us to be special… unique. He created each one of us with a purpose and a plan.

No, we were not all created to be a prophet to the nations, as Jeremiah was. But He has, nonetheless, put something special in each and every one of us.

And if we’re not careful, we can abort our own destiny because of things people have said or done to us.

This can come from a variety of people in our lives, both in the world and in the body of Christ. And these influences can be both positive and negative, regardless of their source.

One of the biggest dangers is when influences appear to be positive, yet are actually harmful to us.

That may sound contradictory, but here’s what we mean. Negative influences are usually obvious and easy to discern. However, a misguided “positive” influence can sometimes send us down the wrong path, seeking and searching for something that we should never be seeking.

This happens when a well-meaning person, sometimes even a fellow believer, tells us something that they think we want to hear or that they believe to be correct or accurate. Their intentions are usually good, but their lack of discernment or understanding is dangerous to us.

So our guard needs to be up and our own discernment needs to be sharp regardless of who we’re dealing with. We need to protect our calling and our destiny by making sure we’re staying on the path that God has for us, not chasing some wild fantasy that was planted in our heads by an outside influence.

And if we’re not sure where we’re supposed to be or what we’re supposed to be doing, we need to be seeking God and His answers. Not man’s answers.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV) 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
