Romans 5:8 (NKJV) 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
This is one of the most profound statements in the entirety of the New Testament.
Why would I say that?
Because it is a statement that demonstrates and proves God’s love for even the vilest of sinners.
It does not matter what a person might have done; how black their past might be. God loves them.
That love was demonstrated by the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the cross; the death that makes it possible for any human being to be forgiven and redeemed, made new in Christ.
And that love for them is what sets people free from the consequences of sin through forgiveness, upon simply asking and believing by faith that God is who He says He is, and that Jesus died for our sins.
That statement is also the proof that we have to offer those who might question whether God can really love the vilest of sinners.
We can offer our own testimonies of what God has done for us, but God’s word is the proverbial icing on the cake, proving in God’s own word His love for humanity as a whole, and the redemption available to each of us.
So, if you are ever having doubts about God’s love, or if you are having a conversation with someone who swears that God could never possibly love them, remember this verse. And offer it to those in doubt about God’s love.
It just may be what turns a heart toward God and brings them to redemption in Christ.
