Bible Verse of The Day – 3-5-18

Luke 5:11 (NKJV) 11 So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him.

This took place right after Jesus had just filled their boats with fish. They had tried all night but had caught nothing. Then Jesus told Simon to let down his net for a catch.

As Simon listened and obeyed, Jesus not only filled one boat, but Simon had to call over his partners with their boat too.

They filled two boats full of fish so that they began to sink. WOW! I’d say for those fishermen, that’s a good day.

After seeing what Jesus did, they were ready to follow Him, giving up everything. Why? Because Jesus had personally touched their hearts and opened their eyes.

You see, fishing was their livelihood. It’s what put food on their table. It was how they earned their living. It was their stability.

But, that was not what changed them. They knew there was more about Him that they wanted than the material stuff. That was awesome to experience, I’m sure. But it didn’t hold them back. They left it all behind to follow Him.

Are we still looking for stuff from Jesus, or have we reached that point where He is more than that to us? He is about more than filling our boats, our bank accounts, buying us a home, getting us success and fame, putting us in a fancy car, a jet, large boat or a big church with fancy seating.

There is so much more to Jesus than the blessings of riches. He is everything! The disciples knew it and made the right choice to forsake it all and follow Him.

Through Him is our way to eternal life in Heaven.

His blood covered our sins, and through Him we have been made righteous.

Romans 5:19 (NKJV) 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

Are we ready to forsake it all and move forward with Him?

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-6-17

John 8:12 (NKJV) 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

For many years I looked at this verse and thought that Jesus meant that those who follow Him would not walk in the darkness of sin.

But God recently showed me that there is much more to it than that.

No, we should not walk in sinful ways. But in this specific verse, Jesus was referring to not walking in darkness, from a different point of view.

Here’s what this verse really means:

If we follow Him, we will not stumble around in darkness. We will not have a lack of light in our lives. We will always have His light to guide us, no matter what we face.

This is, or should be, a huge comfort to every one of us who are followers of Christ!

Darkness tries to hide things that we need to see. Darkness tries to obscure the truth. And darkness tries to keep us from finding our way.

But Jesus himself has promised us that darkness can never again hide or obscure anything from us if we follow Him. The key is to keep our eyes on Him, and not on anything else.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-28-17

John 8:12 (NKJV) 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

When we have Jesus we don’t want to be involved in things that He speaks against.

We feel it when we attempt to do something that is wrong, and this causes us to turn from it because of our love for Him.

We know when we participate in or do something that is dark because of the conviction we feel when we do it.

Sometimes mistakes happen and we realize afterwards that what we did was wrong, and we wish we hadn’t done it. That is what repentance is for. We can go to Him and ask for forgiveness, and He will forgive us.

Some people may think “well, I have done something really terrible, and I knew better”. Well, we probably did know better. But just knowing something doesn’t do much. Our actions and our knowledge have to come together, and sometimes they don’t. And when that happens we do  just the opposite of what we KNOW we are supposed to do.

If there is a desire in us to continue to do the things that we know deep down are wrong, then there is a very good chance that we have not surrendered completely to Him.

Christ cannot do a complete work in us until we completely surrender. We can’t pick and choose what we surrender and what we hold on to. Those things that we choose to hold onto will continue to pull us back into darkness.

We need to give it all to Him.

Give those things to Him today and let Him help us to turn completely from them, that we may walk in the light.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-15-17

John 6:26-27 (NKJV) 26 Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”

Many people pursued Jesus when He was here on earth because they knew He would give them something. In these verses, He had given them food to eat. Others pursued Him because they had seen Him perform signs and wonders.

Why do we pursue Jesus?

Is it because we want a miracle? Is it because we want material things? Is it because we want blessings of some kind?

Or do we pursue Him because we want to know Him, and build a lifelong, lasting relationship with Him that changes who we are and why we live?

Now, let’s not get confused and think that it’s wrong to want to see miracles. Let’s not think that it’s wrong to ask things of God. He wants us to ask.

Matthew 7:7 (NKJV) 7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

But when the asking becomes our primary or our only focus, then we need to make some adjustments.

We need to put the relationship first, and the requests second. And when we get that right, then many other things in our lives will come into order.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-27-16

Matthew 10:34-36 (NKJV) 34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.

Sometimes we may not understand why our very own family doesn’t want anything to do with us at times. They argue or fight with us and have no respect for the decision we have made to serve Christ.

It really isn’t about us as much as it is about Who we have chosen to stand for. We might notice that we sometimes aren’t included in different family celebrations or parties. We may not be invited out to lunch with friends at times. We may even be looked down upon at times for doing absolutely nothing wrong.

God will help us to know how to continue to love others and not let their hurtful words or accusations against us cause us to look at them differently.

The sword that we carry is Christ in us. Sometimes it can cut without us even saying a word. People don’t understand why they feel the conviction they do within their hearts when they are around us, so they will sometimes lash out or run away.

Don’t take it personally. It comes with the decision we make to follow Christ. He will help build our character and show us how to handle each situation.

Luke 6:27 (NKJV) 27 “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-11-16

Matthew 19:21 (NKJV) 21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

A giving heart, a heart that does not hold on to things, but is willing to give up all and follow Christ. A heart that finds its stability and fulfillment in Christ alone; This is the kind of heart that Jesus looks forward to developing in us each day. He calls it perfect.

Following Jesus may require us to make big sacrifices at times. The best thing we can do is let God prepare our hearts so that nothing comes between us and Him.

If Jesus is asking us today to let go of something, don’t waste time stewing over it.

Pray and ask Him to help us let it go. We will have much more fulfillment in following Him than whatever that thing could ever offer. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-14-16

Luke 9:23-24 (NKJV) 23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.

Follow me. Those are pretty serious words when they come from the mouth of the Messiah!

Just as Jesus told his disciples to follow Him, He also calls us to follow Him.

He may not be walking here on earth with us physically, as He was with the disciples, but He walks with us in the spirit. And it’s up to us to choose whether to follow Him or not.

It’s a choice we have to make, day by day, minute by minute.

It would seem really nice if we could just make that choice once and the rest of life would be a piece of cake, so to speak.

But then there would be no faith involved. There would be no more choice involved. And our walk with God would be dull, lifeless and meaningless.

So it’s up to us to choose. It’s up to us to make a conscious decision every minute of every day, to follow the Savior.

It’s up to us to choose to put our faith and trust in Him. It’s up to us to choose to follow His ways and walk in His footsteps.

And it’s up to us to keep our feet on the path He has set before us.

Proverbs 4:26 (NKJV) 26 Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established.

What will we choose?
