Bible Verse of The Day – 3-15-17

John 6:26-27 (NKJV) 26 Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”

Many people pursued Jesus when He was here on earth because they knew He would give them something. In these verses, He had given them food to eat. Others pursued Him because they had seen Him perform signs and wonders.

Why do we pursue Jesus?

Is it because we want a miracle? Is it because we want material things? Is it because we want blessings of some kind?

Or do we pursue Him because we want to know Him, and build a lifelong, lasting relationship with Him that changes who we are and why we live?

Now, let’s not get confused and think that it’s wrong to want to see miracles. Let’s not think that it’s wrong to ask things of God. He wants us to ask.

Matthew 7:7 (NKJV) 7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

But when the asking becomes our primary or our only focus, then we need to make some adjustments.

We need to put the relationship first, and the requests second. And when we get that right, then many other things in our lives will come into order.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-16-17

Matthew 6:21 (NKJV) 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Where our treasure is, there our heart will also be.

This was such a short, simple statement made by Jesus. But it sums up our entire walk with God perfectly.

Whatever our heart is focused on is what we will spend time on. Our “treasure” will occupy our time, our thoughts and our attention.

When we open our mouth to speak, what’s in our heart will come out. If our treasure is money, we will talk of financial matters. If our treasure is our hobby, we will spend as much time as possible thinking and talking about it, as well as participating in it.

If our treasure is our spouse, we will spend all of our time and effort trying to please them. Sometimes we might even put our spouse before God.

If we want to please God and build a strong relationship with Him, we need to be sure we are putting Him first in everything. He needs to come before our money, our hobbies, our careers and, yes, even before our spouse.

And if we love God and put Him first, our priorities will fall into order and the love that we show our spouse won’t be forced or artificial. It will be like God’s love is pouring directly from Him to our spouse, with us acting as the funnel that it flows through.

And so it will be with everything else. Once we let God set our priorities in order, He will oversee our career, our family, our finances and everything else that’s important in our lives.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-16-16

John 15:5 (NKJV) 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Most of us want a better relationship with God. We want to know how to strengthen our walk with Him and have that closeness that our spirit longs for. And we want our lives to be fruitful.

So how do we make that happen?

Jesus laid it out for us in the verses above; We need to abide in Him. If we abide in Him, we will bear much fruit.

What does that mean? What do we have to do to abide in Him?

It means that we stay close to Him. It means that we do whatever is necessary to remove the barriers between ourselves and Him, allowing us to draw near to Him. It means that we put Him first in everything, even if it means giving up some things that we like or that mean a lot to us.

Just like raising plants that produce fruit, which takes hard work, so it is with our walk with God. It takes work.

We get out what we put in. If we put only a small effort into it, we will get only a little fruit out of it. But if we give it our all, we will get so much more out of it.

But the key isn’t to focus on what we will get out of it. The key is to build that relationship because we want a closer walk, because we love Him above all else.

And when we get that right, when we get our priorities in order, then we will see things fall into place. And our walk with God will become so strong that nothing can interfere with it. Ever.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-24-16

Proverbs 4:25 (NKJV) 25 Let your eyes look straight ahead, And your eyelids look right before you.

How does one stay focused?

I have to ask God to help me everyday to stay focused. Why? Because there are so many things that like to come and pull on me.

These things that like to get our attention and pull on us aren’t always the things we need to be tending to. And they can cause us to be distracted from the very things we need to be doing. They can also pull us away from God, coming between us and Him.

How do we stay focused, looking straight ahead? Sometimes it takes making changes in the way we do things. Sometimes we need to avoid certain situations or certain people.

Shutting off our various electronic and mobile devices, until we take care of the things we need to get done, can also help us stay focused.

Sometimes putting ourselves out there and making ourselves available to everyone more than we need to can cause us not to get our own things done. We fall behind, get overwhelmed, and it creates chaos.

We may need to put limits on how much we’re available to others, in order to stay focused.

Focusing brings forward motion in our daily walk with God. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-23-16

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV) 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

The words above are the secret to a deep, lasting relationship with our Father in heaven.

God is faithful with doing His part. We need to learn how to be faithful with doing our part.

And what is that part? Seeking Him with all our heart!

We need to be constantly seeking Him, pushing further and further forward, closer to Him each and every day.

Some days we’ll feel like we moved miles ahead. Other days we might feel like we went miles backwards. But the important thing is that we never stop seeking. We can never, ever give up and stop trying.

Even though it might sometimes feel like we’re not making any progress, all we need to do is look back at where we used to be.

If we ask, God is faithful to give the increase.

Matthew 7:7 (NKJV) 7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

So let’s keep pressing in, seeking Him every day that we live and breathe. Remember… He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him!

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-19-15

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Jesus told us in pretty clear words how to please God and be successful in every area of our lives.

Want a strong, happy marriage? Seek God first.

Want a career that’s satisfying and rewarding? Seek God first.

Want a strong family that’s close knit? Seek God first.

Want to have strong faith? Seek God first!

Want a strong walk with God, where you learn how to hear Him more easily, discern things more readily and have a deeper understanding of His word? Seek Him first.

This may seem overly simple, but it’s absolute truth.

Our primary objective as a follower of Christ should be to walk as closely as possible with God and follow the footsteps of Jesus as closely as possible.

When we do this, it makes our lives much easier and makes our relationship with God so much stronger.

We need to put God first in everything we do and every decision we make.

Maybe you’re thinking that you’ve never really put God first, and now you have a big mess on your hands due to poor choices you’ve made. But that’s OK. It’s never too late to get it right!

Starting today, make a conscious effort to put God first. It might not come easily at first, but as you do this more and more, it will get easier and easier. And soon it will become second nature.

Seek first the kingdom of God.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-1-15

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Do we want God’s favor in our lives? Do we want His blessings? Do we want His approval? Do we want Him to be pleased with us?

I think every single one of us can say yes to all of those questions.

So how do we go about doing this?

We need to seek Him diligently!

Diligent: Done with steady, earnest, energetic effort.

So we need to seek God energetically. We can’t seek Him half-heartedly!

We need to seek Him steadily. We can’t just seek Him a day here and a day there!

We need to seek Him earnestly. We have to be intent and deliberate in seeking Him!

All of these things add up to a healthy pursuit of and relationship with God. If we will make this kind of effort, He will give the increase, and our relationship with Him will grow exponentially.

And as our relationship with Him grows, so will our faith.

So if we’re feeling like we’re lacking and we want God to reward us, we need to push those things aside that try to keep us from Him. And then we need to earnestly, diligently seek Him.

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-8-14

Philippians 3:10 (NKJV) 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection…

That I may know Him.

What an awesome way to live life, endeavoring to know Him more deeply, more closely, more intimately.

Because when everything is said and done and our life is over, this is all that will matter, whether we knew Him or not.

If we know Him, our heart’s desire should be to know Him as fully and completely as possible. He is our source of life and everything that is good in life.

And if we know Him well, so many other things in our lives will reflect that, so that when we have lived our life and we are gone, we will have left a legacy of so much more than just being a nice person.

We will have left “little pieces of Jesus” all along the way. And when people remember us or think of us, they will also think of God.

And don’t take this as only a “when you’re gone” message. This applies to us each and every day, even while we’re still here. As we walk through this life, people should see us and see God in us.

And if people think of us or happen to have a conversation about us, let’s give them something good to think about or talk about!
