John 8:36 (NKJV) 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
Many believers struggle with overcoming things that they wrestled with prior to becoming a child of God, or things that they have become involved in since becoming a believer.
The types of things that present struggles can vary greatly.
Some are habits. Some are things that the individual may not have recognized as being a sin. Other things might be full-blown addictions that bloomed from indulgence in a particular sin.
But no matter the struggle, there is one thing I know for certain; the blood of Christ has the power to set them free from ALL these things.
Now, I know that statement may not be well received by some. Many will balk at the idea that an addicted person can have the chains of their addiction smashed by putting their faith in Jesus Christ.
But it is true, nonetheless.
God is not bound by what we perceive or believe to be true. He is bound by truth; His truth. He is not a man that He should lie (Numbers 23:19).
Most of the struggles that we wrestle with perpetually remain struggles because we fail to surrender to God wholly or to truly recognize the sovereignty of God in its fullness.
Yes, we may believe that God created everything. We may believe that He offered up His Son for the redemption of humankind.
But we fail to recognize and believe on a personal level that He can set us free from the things that bind us. And so, we struggle with them for years on end, defeated in our battles against them.
But it does not have to be this way.
A blind man was given his sight by Jesus spitting in the dirt, making mud, and applying it to the man’s eyes. Mud made from spit does not sound attractive, does it?
But that man was healed and given his sight!
We need to embrace God’s ways, even if they are well outside of what we might envision.
This includes accepting and embracing the fact that God can truly set us free from something that has plagued us for years; one hundred percent free.
Freedom given by God is not a partial proposal. It is not momentary freedom that is given for a few weeks, a few months, or a few years. It is complete freedom!
Will we recognize it? Will we surrender to Him wholly? Will we give our struggles to Him completely, leaving them behind for good?
It is truly up to us.
