Bible Verse of The Day – 6-2-16

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV) 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Being thankful is a key part of our walk as a follower of Christ.

Even if our life isn’t what we think it should be or what we want it to be, we still have much to be thankful for.

We could make up a list of things to be thankful for, but in reality, we shouldn’t have to rely on a list in order to be thankful. And our thankfulness shouldn’t be based on what we have.

God has shown us His mercy. He has given us grace. He has offered us new life through His Son, Jesus Christ. And He has promised us eternal life with Him if we put our faith and trust in Him.

All of those things right there are more than enough to be thankful for 🙂

Yes, we have struggles and trials. Yes, sometimes life can seem harsh and cruel. Yes, sometimes things happen that we wish hadn’t happened. But these apply to everyone, regardless of our status in society, our heritage, etc. None of us are exempt from these things.

And so many times, those very things that we wish we didn’t have to go through will teach us important things that we can use to help others, and can ultimately grow our faith if we don’t let our hearts harden.

So let’s let God show us how to look beyond the things that come against us and we struggle with and show us how to give thanks in everything.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-22-16

1Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV) 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Today, I want to take a few minutes and thank God for something that happened last week.

We got a call while eating lunch one day recently. It was my sister. She said to me, “our brother just fell 15 – 20 feet out of a tree and he landed on a stone wall. They are rushing him to RI hospital.”

We all know in this area that if someone goes to RI hospital, it’s a serious situation.

As we raced off to the hospital, the only words that could come out of my mouth were, “Oh God, Oh God, Oh God”.

When we arrived at the hospital, we found him being prepared to have a tube inserted into his side, to drain air and fluid from his chest cavity. He had several broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a liver laceration, and a bruised lung.

I got a text message on my phone during that time from someone that knew nothing about the accident and it read, “sometimes all it takes is just one prayer to change everything”. It couldn’t have come at a better time.

Thankfully, there was no damage to his spine or his brain. Considering his fall and what could have happened, they said he was “very lucky”.

He went into the hospital on a Thursday afternoon, into the Intensive Care Unit of the Trauma Center, and was released that Sunday afternoon. Just 3 short days later.

I wouldn’t call that luck. It was only God and His faithfulness!

My brother is driving now, moving around pretty good and getting things done.

We believe that prayer is so powerful, even if it is just “Oh God”. He knows!!

1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NKJV) 17 pray without ceasing…

Today, take a break and spend it with God. Love on Him and thank Him. Let Him know how much we appreciate Him. And if there is an “Oh God prayer”, let it out. It’s good enough. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-27-15

Psalm 92:1 (NKJV) 92 It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;

We don’t normally do messages based on holidays or other traditional celebrations. But here in the United States, we just celebrated a holiday we call Thanksgiving Day. The premise for this celebration is to gather with family and loved ones and give thanks to God for His blessings and His provision.

It’s good to give thanks to God for everything He’s done. But we don’t need to wait for a special holiday to do this!

Every day that we live, we should be thanking Him, regardless of our situations or circumstances.

Sometimes it may seem easier to give thanks than other times. Seasons of famine or struggle can be difficult to find reasons to give thanks.

But if we take our eyes off of our situation and look at what we have been blessed with, we’ll probably see things a bit differently, and have no problem at all thanking God for everything He’s done for us.

So be sure to take time each day to thank Him, even for the little things. It will help us keep our focus on what we have, instead of what we don’t have.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-24-15

Ephesians 5:20 (NKJV) 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

We are truly thankful to God today for each one of you.

You have been our help in times of need. You have been there when we needed encouragement. You have been there when we needed support and prayer. You have put food in our mouths and clothes on our back.

We have been able to do what God has asked us to do because of your help. We have reached many people for Christ through your precious hands and giving hearts.

Thanking God for you and your obedient heart to Him.

Love you all from the bottom of our hearts.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-12-15

Philippians 4:11-12 (NKJV) 11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

Human nature (the natural man) seems to cause us to always be looking forward, searching for “the next big thing” in our lives.

We are always working toward that new job, bigger home or nicer car. There are lots of things that we chase after in the natural realm.

So many times, though, we are so busy looking forward, that we forget to recognize, and be thankful for, what we have right now, at this moment.

We all have much to be thankful for, regardless of what kind of situation we might currently be in.

Sometimes we have plenty, and I believe we can all agree that times of abundance can be pretty enjoyable.

But then we may go through a time of lack, a drought, so to speak, and the natural man tends to be frustrated and angry when this happens. But as we draw close to God, we learn to be thankful no matter what things look like at the moment. And we stop always looking forward, searching for that next big thing, and being content with what we’re blessed with.

This doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t work to improve our circumstances, but as we do so, let’s be careful not to be ungrateful for what we already have and letting the time slip by us without stopping to sit at God’s feet and honor Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-17-14

1 Chronicles 16:34 (NKJV) 34 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

Give thanks.

Such a simple concept, but not always so easy to do if things are tough or not going the way we had hoped or expected.

Our emotions will often try to dictate to us how we should feel or how we should act, based on our circumstances. It’s a natural human tendency.

But the spirit of God wants us to look beyond our circumstances and be thankful, despite our circumstances or our situation.

Are you underpaid, overworked, deep in debt, about to lose your home, dealing with a family tragedy, working through relationship problems, trying to break free from addiction, or anything else that might seem overwhelming?

Give thanks to God for everything. Push the emotions aside that would try to make you angry, bitter and negative.

Kick the devil in the face and thank God anyway. Thank Him for who He is, not for what He has done for you. Not for material things that can disappear in a second.

Things of this earth are temporary. But God and His mercy endure forever!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-27-14

1 Thessalonians 5:15-18 (NKJV) 15 See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Give thanks in everything.

Think about those words. And no, this isn’t a message geared toward giving thanks because it’s the Thanksgiving Holiday in the USA, although it would seem fitting.

Instead, let’s take a quick look at something else about these verses that many of us have probably never seen before.

As I was reading through this, God showed me the first sentence, “see that no one renders evil for evil”, and then He showed me the beginning of that last sentence, “in everything give thanks”.

And He showed me that the key to doing that first part, not rendering evil for evil, is actually found in doing the second part, giving thanks in everything.

You see, if someone does evil to us, our first reaction in the flesh is figuring out how we can get back at that person.

But if we use God’s wisdom, and we follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, we won’t be caught up in revenge. Instead, we will give thanks for our blessings and let God sort out the rest.

No, it won’t always be easy. And there will be times when we might miss the mark and say or do something that’s not righteous. But as we grow and mature as a believer, we will  get this, and those times when we lose it and lash out should become less and less frequent.

So today, if someone mistreats us or does us wrong, let’s stop and remember what God has commanded us to do. Give thanks in everything!
