Tag: Bible verses about being fearful

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-5-24

Psalm 34:4 (NKJV) 4 I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.

As a child, growing up with my brothers, I was taught all about sports. And I was taught arm wrestling.

Despite being a girl, I had to hold my own or I was in trouble.

My 6 brothers were tough on me. And my older sisters were all grown up and had moved out.

I didn’t get into the girly stuff. I was more like a tomboy. I learned to be physically strong and athletic at a very young age.

When I joined sports in school, and they saw that I could perform better than most boys in my age group, it became a problem for me. They would move me up to higher levels.

I would go from JV to Varsity quickly. I didn’t like it. I wanted to be with my friends, not the older kids. I wanted to stay in my age bracket. Hang out and be comfortable.

So, I’d quit the team.

It was a scary thing for me. Fear kept me from advancing and allowing myself to be physically challenged and become a better athlete.

Isn’t it funny how fear will hold us back?

How many of us today look back and are frustrated by the decisions we made because we were fearful of making the move?

The enemy loves it when God’s children walk in fear every day, just so we stay in one place and not advance in this life.

He loves that our desire for comfort keeps us from wanting to step outside of the norm.

He knows if he can keep us fearful of this or fearful of that, we won’t advance. And it makes his work easier.

He loves for us to keep telling ourselves we can’t do it, we’re not good enough.

But God has another plan for us. If we push aside our fears and wait on Him to help us through those things that come before us, we will rise, we will walk and not faint!

Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV) 31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

I’m speaking to someone today. Let God help you through that fear. Don’t quit.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-15-24

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

This is one of the most frequently quoted verses in the entirety of the New Testament.

It gives us great hope and encouragement!

Today we will take a closer look and break it down a bit, so we get a better understanding of what it truly means to us, as believers.

Based on what this verse says, we know that God has not given us a spirit of fear.

And if we were to look more closely at the definition of fear, we would realize that He did not create us to be timid, to shrink back, to be cowardly, or unwilling to fight spiritual battles as a soldier of God.

In the natural realm, we may be all these things; fearful, timid, etc. But it is not because of Him. It is because we allow our flesh and our emotions to take precedence over the Holy Spirit.

We have allowed our natural man to lead and dominate over our spirit man.

God’s word tells us that if we allow Him to lead, we will walk out our destiny and act according to His word, displaying courage, boldness and strength.

Take note of what His word says He has given us; a spirit of power, of love, and of a sound mind.

What does that mean?

It means He wants us and has equipped us to live by a spirit of love, self-discipline, self-control and a well-balanced mind.

If we look more closely, we will understand that He did not create us to be scattered and chaotic, or to lack what we need to be balanced in our conduct, changing with the winds, afraid to stand for our faith.

Fear comes from one source; the enemy of our souls. But God has equipped us to be able to defeat the enemy’s tactics and live our lives above them.

The question is, will we?

Will we give God the preeminence in our lives that He deserves, allowing Him to transform us into who He wants us to be, walking in strength, courage, and boldness?

Only we can make that choice.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-9-24

Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV) 10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

We all have fears or phobias we deal with at times.

Someone may be afraid of the dark.

Someone may be afraid of not being accepted.

Someone may be afraid of losing their home.

Someone may be afraid of not being able to be there for their children or grandchildren.

Someone may be afraid of losing their income.

So many things we could fear.

None of them are wrong or bad. The thing we need to make sure of is that we face them. We work at getting over the fears.

How do we face our fears?

We walk through them. We don’t accept them as part of our norm and just avoid them.

It wasn’t too long ago, I was so afraid to fly by myself.

But, when my family moved away, the only way I could see them as often as I wanted to was to get on that plane and fly.

So, it forced me to step out and face my fears.

The first time was hard. I remember sitting on the plane by myself, and my heart began to race, my head began to run with what if’s, and I was in total panic mode.

While sitting there, I took my hand and put it on my stomach, and I remember praying, “God help me”.

And within minutes I calmed down and was at peace. It was scary but, I thank God He was there to calm my nerves and remove the anxiety and fear I was dealing with.

You see, we take it one step at a time, and we face them.

If we don’t like the dark, try staying alone in it for a certain amount of time. And add to it each time, until it doesn’t bother us as much.

If we are afraid of losing our home for whatever reason, we should remind ourselves that even if it were to ever happen, it would all work out in whatever way it needed to.

Knowing that God is our help, and He is faithful, we will come through it no matter what.

If we are afraid of not being able to be there for our children, learn to trust God to be there for them. He is always there for us all. He never leaves us nor forsakes us.

If we are afraid to leave our home and go out in public for whatever reason, plan a day out with someone we know who understands our situation. Plan a date and just do a little something. Each time, try to go a little longer than the last.

Facing our fears is what will help us get past them. And if we don’t know how to face them, pray and ask God to guide us.

He is with us and willing to help us every step of the way.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-29-23

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

As I spend time in various places around where we live, I see a lot of people. The diversity here is great, with many different races, ethnicities, levels of education, and varying levels of financial status.

Among this mix of people, despite their many differences, I see a common theme in a small percentage of them; they live in fear.

Many have been deeply scarred by the wounds inflicted upon them from the great societal changes in the last three to four years.

These changes have caused them to fear many things, especially while out in public.

Somewhere along the way, they have suffered emotional trauma from the things they have seen, been told, or experienced.

And it is stuck to them like glue. They cannot seem to shake it.

They wear it on their faces, and it is obvious by the way they interact (or fail to interact) with others.

Fear has changed them.

We probably all know someone like this in our own lives.

Maybe that person is you.

To that person, know this; God has not given us a spirt of fear. He has given us a spirit of power, of love, and of a sound mind.

We were not created to live in fear.

Fear is a tool of the enemy. It is the weapon he uses to drive us into hiding. It is the object he uses to cause us to cower and hide, robbing us of our joy. And it is the gun that he points at us, taunting us, daring us to move.

To those in this state, I say, “Trust God, and listen to His voice!”.

God has created us to live, not to hide. He has created us to carry His Spirit within us, glorifying Him in all that we do.

He has called us to be a shining light, like a city on a hill, bringing His hope, His love, and His offer of redemption to all those around us!

Let us live with power and strength, facing our fears and knocking the enemy down, even as he taunts us, daring us to move.

The victory is ours, in the name of Jesus. Let us reach out and claim it!

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-20-22

Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV) 10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

The first sentence in this verse tells us to “fear not”.

Why? Because “I am with you”.

He knows our emotions will cause us to fear at times. It’s a normal reaction.

It’s not always a bad thing to feel fear. It’s all in what we do with it.

How will we handle it?

Will we let it grip us and keep us so we can’t make a move? Or will we take it and act in a way that will allow God to help us handle it?

Have we ever noticed how fear can show us who we are and what we are made of?

For instance, we may be afraid to address someone, or we may be afraid to make a move to do a specific task. Maybe we are afraid to be around a certain crowd, we may feel intimidated by them.

Fear will show us ourselves if we pay attention. It will show us our weakness.

This is going to sound funny, but don’t be afraid when fear approaches.

Reach out to the One who can help.

He is with us; He will strengthen us and help us. He will uphold us with His hand.

If we hide behind fear, we will never get help to move past it.

Praise God today for His righteous right hand! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-23-22

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

We all struggle with what to do with fear when it hits.

Fear should never cause us to do something we regret. Fear is simply an emotion that we will feel at certain times.

It can help us or hurt us. But it should never control us.

Some fear can cripple us if we let it, while other fear can cause us to make a good decision.

If we are afraid to do something that we know is wrong, and can hurt us or others, this kind of fear will help us make a right choice if we listen to it. This is a good, healthy fear.

If we are fearful about doing something that will be good for us, and we aren’t sure about it because we never did it before, this is not a good fear to listen to.

In order to beat this type of fear, we must push through it and attempt what we think is impossible. Even if we are scared, we need to take charge and not let the fear control us or prevent us from doing what we know to do.

God gave us a spirit of power, love and sound mind. Why?

To make good choices even when we feel fearful. These attributes will help us to push through even if we are scared.

Fear should not control us. And if we let it, we will find ourselves standing still when we should be moving forward.

It can keep us in bondage, locked down and wimpy. Fear needs to be kept in its proper place.

As children of God, we can’t let fear control us and ruin what God wants to do through us and for us. We need to take control and not look back. And we can’t second guess or entertain thoughts of, “what if”.

Move forward in our God-given spirit of power, love and sound mind.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-7-22

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Earlier this morning I was having a great conversation with someone about the state of the current world.

We discussed the fact that we are headed into end times types of events, and that evil has markedly increased in recent years.

As part of that conversation, we got on the topic of fear.

Fear has been used to do some terrible things to mass numbers of people over the centuries. And the last couple of years is no exception.

Fear has driven many people to make decisions that they would not normally make.

It has caused people to separate themselves from society. It has caused people to isolate themselves from friends and family.

And it has caused some to submit themselves to things that they would never have submitted to under normal circumstances.

We want to remind everyone today that fear is not of God.

Fear is a tool used by the enemy and his cohorts to back people into a corner, making them feel like they have no choice but to obey those who are wielding that fear as a mighty weapon.

Never make choices based on fear. It will almost always come back to haunt us. We will regret those choices terribly most times.

So, if you’re faced with making a choice of some kind, and fear is what’s driving you to make that choice, step back and take a look at what’s happening.

Look for God in it. Does it feel like what you’re doing is led by God? Are your choices giving you a feeling of peace?

Or does it feel chaotic and crazy, like you’d never do this if you weren’t scared?

Remember that God is not the author of confusion. And let that guide your decisions and choices.

1 Corinthians 14:33 (NKJV) 33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace…

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-19-21

Matthew 10:28 (NKJV) 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Sometimes the things or the people that we face can cause us to be fearful.

Circumstances can cause us to fear their outcome.

More commonly, though, people can cause us to fear them for what they can do.

Most times these fears are unfounded and unnecessary. But our minds can run away from us, letting fear dominate our thoughts.

Jesus told His disciples that we are not to fear those who can “kill the body”. It’s not our body that counts, but our soul.

You see, our bodies are simply the shell that we live in. Yes, we should value our lives enough to take care of our bodies and use them to bring honor and glory to God.

But we should never allow fear to cause us to avoid doing what God has called us to do.

Man may be able to destroy the body, but he can never destroy our soul.

God, however, is who we are accountable to. He has dominion over our souls. And it is to Him that we answer, here on earth, and for eternity.

This is not being written to be heavy or scary, but to bring truth and understanding to us so we don’t spend our lives fearing those who truly have no control over us, even if they may think they do or act like they do.

Fear God (in reverence), but do not fear man. It is not to man that we answer.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-22-21

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Fear is a powerful thing. We teach about it frequently because it is critical that we recognize fear for what it is, and know how to stand against it.

With that said, we want to address the huge fear attack that has taken place over the last 18 months across the globe.

A spirit of fear has been used to rein people in and cause them to live their lives very apprehensively.

Some have spent the last year and a half hiding from society. Others have stopped seeing their family members. Some will no longer go to the stores or other places in public. Still others have stopped attending any kind of public gatherings.

All of this because of fear.

We need to stop letting fear control us. We need to recognize it for what it is and put it in its place.

We need to put on our best shoes and use them to stand firmly on the enemy’s neck, breaking it in the process.

Fear be gone, in the name of Jesus!

We are fearfully and wonderfully made. This doesn’t mean we should be fearful. Quite the opposite is true.

When the writer penned those words, he was conveying the incredible works of God.

We are complex in our being, made beyond our comprehension, by God’s mighty hand. The wonders of who He made us to be are far above anything we can truly understand.

Think about it. Our bones, muscles, nerves and organs work in perfect harmony to keep us alive. None of it was by chance. Everything in us is there for a specific reason, to perform a specific task.

That is what the Psalmist was referring to in Psalm 139:14 when he wrote those words.

So, in light of this, because we have been incredibly, intricately created, we should not let fear overtake us.

God is our Father. He has created us in a way that should make us confident in how He has equipped our bodies.

Our faith and trust in Him, along with the discernment that He teaches us to have, should help us to recognize the spirit of fear at work, and lead us to stand against it, binding it in the name of Jesus.

Fear be gone, in Jesus’ name!

Stand up and be free. Live like God is your Father, because if you have put your faith in Him through the blood of Jesus, He is!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-30-21

Hebrews 13:6 (NKJV) 6 So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”

I love God with all my heart. And I don’t say that lightly.

Every day that goes by proves to me more and more that He is our one true source of hope.

No matter what I see happening, whether on a personal level or on a global scale, God is my Helper. And because He is my helper, I will not fear the things that I see.

Life can be scary for those who are apart from God. And I will admit that even with God, it can be pretty challenging sometimes, causing us to shrink back on occasion as unexpected things confront us.

But God never shrinks back. And because He dwells within us, we shouldn’t shrink back either.

Sometimes that’s easier said than done, but there is a reality in that statement that we, as believers, need to embrace boldly in our lives.

That still might not always make it easy for us, but it should give us courage to stand when we need to stand, fight when we need to fight and look not to our own intellect for answers, but to the Spirit of God, whom Jesus called our Helper.

And, as we are told in Romans, if God is for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:31 (NKJV) 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

So, when we face the hard things, we need to stand strong in our faith, and look to Jesus, the author and finisher of that faith (Hebrews 12:2).

Trust Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-21-21

Mark 14:50 (NKJV) 50 Then they all forsook Him and fled.

As I read this a few days ago, I pondered on the significance of it. I thought about the fact that the very people who had sworn that they would never abandon Jesus did just that; forsook Him in His hour of greatest need.

Not that they could have stopped what He was about to face. That’s not the case. But their flesh showed through and dominated their behavior, causing them to flee when trouble hit.

I pondered on my own flesh, and how we as humans are so fickle and weak at times. We say one thing, yet do another. We aim for something, but miss it by a mile because of our flesh.

Even Paul struggled with this.

Romans 7:15 (NKJV) 15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.

Jesus was the only human to ever walk the earth who did only what was right, and was able to successfully ward off temptation every time He faced it, without falling into sin.

One. One human being!

And how did He do this? By obedience to the power and leading of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit kept Him from fleeing when He was facing His most difficult hour.

And it is this same Holy Spirit who will help us do what is right at those critical times in our lives.

Whether we face persecution for our faith or we have to choose whether to give in to temptation or not, He and He alone will be our Helper and our Guide. We only need to obey Him.

Ponder this as we walk out our lives in this season we are in. It’s important that we keep it fresh in our heart and mind, so we are prepared in the moment.

And know this; that if we have failed Him in the past, He is willing and ready to forgive us. All we need to do is repent and ask. And it will be done.
