Bible Verse of The Day – 7-13-20

Genesis 39:21 (NKJV) 21 But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

You may have noticed recently that we have been using a lot of scriptures related to Abraham, Moses, Jacob and Joseph in our devotionals. We have been spending a lot of time studying in the Old Testament.

Today, let’s talk a bit more about Joseph.

While reading through the final chapters of Genesis, particularly the sections related to Joseph’s life, something became very clear to me; Despite his hardships, Joseph’s life was truly blessed.

It didn’t matter where Joseph was or what he was going through, God caused him to excel and prosper in everything he did.

Why?

Because he honored God and made the right choices at critical times.

He chose not to dwell on anger or retribution, choosing instead to forgive and look forward, not backwards.

He forgave his brothers when they sold him into slavery. He didn’t hold bitterness against the wife of Potiphar when she falsely accused him of inappropriate behavior toward her. And he overlooked Pharaoh’s butler’s failure to keep his word and help him get out of prison.

Most importantly, though, Joseph did his best to always make righteous decisions. He honored God and revered Him highly enough to do the right thing when it counted most.

Joseph’s life is an example for us to learn from. God blessed the work of his hands because he honored God in all he did.

As we honor God with our own lives, He will bless us also.

This doesn’t mean that He will bless us the exact same way that He blessed Joseph. He will bless us in the way that He sees fit.

It’s up to us to accept this and thank Him for it, even if the way He blesses us isn’t necessarily what we expected.

God’s favor is still God’s favor, no matter how He chooses to do it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-24-20

Genesis 13:14-15 (NKJV) 14 And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward; 15 for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.

While reading and studying about Abraham, something really stood out to me; Abraham put God first in everything and honored Him the best he knew how. And because of that, God blessed Abraham in everything he did.

You see, Abraham took the extra time to give God glory and honor everywhere he went. He built altars and made sacrifices to honor His name.

And everywhere new that Abraham traveled to, he built another altar, as though proclaiming that this was God’s land.

Abraham was also not afraid to give and share of his wealth. And he never took what wasn’t his.

We can learn a lot from studying Abraham. We can learn how to honor God and put Him first. We can learn how to be generous. We can learn how to be upright. We can learn how to be a blessing to God and to others. And we can learn how to be blessed by God.

Abraham’s life wasn’t perfect. He was human, after all. But God’s word shows us that in the grand scheme of things, he did very well with his life.

Most importantly, because he trusted God and believed whatever God told Him, God credited it to him as righteousness.

Genesis 15:6 (NKJV) 6 And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.

Let’s learn from Abraham and apply what we learn to our lives, so we can be a blessing to God and others, and God can bless us too!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-24-17

Psalm 1:1 (NKJV) 1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

Most of us want to know how to be blessed by God. It’s something that many of us spend a lot of time and effort on.

We read lots of books. We watch lots of videos. We dig through God’s word. How do we live a blessed life?

Contrary to what many want, it doesn’t happen with the snap of a finger.

Being blessed by God involves steps. And Psalm 1:1 gives us the first set of those steps.

Before we can expect God to bless our lives, we need to heed His instruction and start doing those things that He wants us to do.

  1. Do not walk in the counsel of the ungodly. We can’t walk by the advice of, or in the steps of the ungodly; those who walk contrary to God’s ways.
  2. Don’t stand in the path of sinners. God gives us two paths to choose from. We need to choose the path of righteousness, not the path of sin and its ways.
  3. We can’t sit in the seat of the scornful. It benefits us not to follow the ways of contempt, mockery, contemptuousness or ridicule.

So, there you have it. God says that if we will avoid these things, He will bless us.

And, as we continue to follow Him and walk in His ways, our lives will continue to be blessed.

Remember, being blessed by God doesn’t just happen. It comes when we obey God on a continuous basis and do the things He tells us to do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-20-16

Deuteronomy 28:2-3 (NKJV) 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God: 3 “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.

How are we blessed? By obeying the voice of God!

Everyone wants to be blessed in one way or another. We all have needs, wants and desires.

Many times we spend all of our time and energy focusing on trying to make specific things happen or come to pass.

Work is good. We need to be willing to work for what we have and what we want. The Bible says that if someone doesn’t work, they shouldn’t eat.

2 Thessalonians 3:10 (NKJV) 10 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.

But we also need to make sure we’re not leaving out a key ingredient in the recipe for receiving blessings; obeying God’s voice.

Obeying God is the key to everything about our lives when it comes to “success”. No, it’s not a magic formula that just makes stuff happen or things appear. But it’s the key to pleasing God.

And, as a believer, pleasing God should be our primary goal in everything that we do.

So we need to put God first in everything, learn to hear His voice and then obey that voice. In doing that, we will be blessed!
