Romans 8:35-37 (NKJV) 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
We hear this quoted so very often. And so many times it’s used to paint a pretty picture or get us hyped up. Sometimes it’s used to try to help us forget about our problems and look beyond them for a moment.
And while these are noble efforts, and they can encourage us, we need to look at this verse in its entirety.
Yes, we are more than conquerors in Christ, here on earth, in our daily lives. The world can’t hold us back if we don’t let it. But these words mean so much more!
As with so much of God’s word, there are eternal implications that we need to consider too.
We will go through things here on earth. It’s a fact. Some of these things will not be pleasant. That’s also a fact. And some of these things might leave scars on us that last a lifetime; everlasting evidence of our earthly battles.
And while we will overcome most of our earthly obstacles, there may be some that don’t turn out quite the way we’d like them to.
But that’s OK! Why? Because God is still in control and if we hold fast to our faith, our eternal destiny isn’t altered by them.
So no matter what we come against, no matter what we face and no matter how many battle scars we acquire during our lifetime, the enemy will not win. He will not have us if we don’t let him.
Why? Because we are more than conquerors in Christ!!
So, today, as you face the Goliath in your life, be like David. Pick up a stone. Aim it with purpose. And slay that lousy giant, knowing that victory is yours in Jesus!
You are more than a conqueror for eternity.
