Bible Verse of The Day – 4-5-18

Ephesians 5:30-33 (NKJV) 30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. 31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

As members of His body, we are one with Him.

Just as we are one with Him, we are told that a man will leave his mother and father and become one with his bride. The two shall become one flesh.

To the human mind, two people becoming one flesh is very mysterious and hard to understand. But when we begin to look at it through spiritual eyes, and through God’s word, we can see that the relationship between a husband and his wife is symbolic of the relationship between Christ and His bride.

As we draw near to God and learn of Him, we begin to become one with Him on many levels.

As a husband and wife come together, both in physical intimacy and in every other aspect of their lives, they also become one on many levels. With couples who have been together for a very long time, it’s usually very easy to see how united they are as we watch them interact with each other.

It’s truly a miracle and a mystery of God to see, and to live out.

We can personally attest to this in our own marriage. God has truly brought us together and shown us how to become “one flesh” in every area of our relationship.

He has blessed us with a bond that can only be explained by the phrase “one flesh”.

We recently celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary, on March 12. It was a huge milestone for us, not just in our marriage, but in our lives in general, as He has walked us through so much. We were very excited about it!

And despite some of the things we have faced over the years, it was our unity through the bonds that God created that kept us moving forward without so much as a small hiccup in our marriage. And for that, we give God all of the glory and honor.

It’s very fitting that the first verse of Ephesians chapter 5 starts off by telling us to be imitators of God, and the last verse gives us instructions telling husbands and wives to love and respect each other.

And as we become imitators of God, everything about our marriage relationship will become stronger, and our love and respect for each other will grow in ways we could never have imagined. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-4-18

Ephesians 5:28-29 (NKJV) 28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.

Husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. This is a powerful statement that, if we could just get it, would transform our marriages.

In marriage, we need to make sure we are meeting the needs of our spouse. It’s important that we don’t put them after everything else. Doing so is a recipe for a failed marriage.

We nourish our own bodies with food. We take care of them with exercise and other means of doing our best to stay healthy. This is done because we care about our own bodies. We care about ourselves.

So it should be with our wives. We need to nurture them, cherish them, love them and put them first, above other things. They need to come before our hobbies, our sports and our work.

It’s easy to take them for granted and push them to second or third place. We sometimes make the mistake of thinking that because they will always be there that we can put them off “until later”.

But it’s important that we don’t fall into that trap. Because doing so can break down the relationship and cause them to feel neglected, possibly even causing them to look elsewhere for the attention and affection that we fail to give them.

Love your wife. Put her first. Treat her as God intends us to. And watch the love between you grow and flourish!

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-26-18

Ephesians 5:33 (NKJV) 33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Husbands, love your wife. And wife, respect your husband.

Love and respect in any marriage is what keeps that marriage growing strong. Pray for each other, hold each other dear to your hearts, and sacrifice for each other when needed.

As couples, we need to protect our marriage. We need to watch out for our spouse. If our spouse is struggling, we need to make sure we are there for them. Everything else can wait.

Overtime or extra work can wait. The kid’s activities can wait. The meetings can wait. Our social hour with friends can wait. Our sports can wait. Our shopping can wait. Everything else gets put on hold when it comes to our marriage.

When our spouse is struggling, we shouldn’t spend our time nagging at them for the things they are doing wrong. We don’t need to be reminding them of the things they might have done in the past. Leave the past in the past.

They need us to lift them up, encourage them and help them through their tough days. Stand with them and be there for them.

Sometimes we have to humble ourselves and be reminded of our own weaknesses and the struggles that we have, so we can be compassionate towards them during this time.

Love should get stronger when tough times come. Love doesn’t give up. Love sees what may appear to be an ugly situation and helps it to become beautiful, stronger and successful.

Renew our love today for each other by stopping everything. Sit down. Remind each other about our vows and what God says in His word.

Tell each other that we are there for them and will enjoy the good times and walk through the tough times together. And whatever it takes, we will come through and out the other side, for God is with us.

Romans 8:31 (NKJV) 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-9-16

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

We’d like to share a little story with you that came from one of our longtime readers, friends and supporters..

So many times, when someone comes to us with financial trouble, our first instinct is to give to them, in order to get them through their trouble. But we have learned that this is not always the answer.

We’ve learned over the years that, many times, the best way to help them for the long term is to teach them to give out of their need. As they give, this teaches them how to trust God with their finances and sets them on a path of lifelong provision.

So, here is the AWESOME testimony from that couple who was in this very situation several years ago:

“Our first question my husband and I had was, “do we tithe on the gross income or what we take home?” And Pastor Curt’s reply to us was, it can be either, whatever we feel God wants us to do. We decided it will be whatever comes into the house.

So we started giving 10% of all money that came into our house to Seven Seas Ministries. It wasn’t much at first, but we stuck with it.

I remember that first end of the year statement we got. It may not have been much, but I felt so wonderful that we stuck to it and were able to help someone else.

We always seemed to have just enough money to tithe and get by. Slowly, my husband would get a raise or have a bunch of overtime, and I would get a raise or a better paying job. As we got more, we gave more.

A few years ago, Pastors Curt and Ellie directed my husband and me to make a “wish list”, a list of the things that we would like for God to do in our lives.

I remember a few things on that list. To have my A/C in my car fixed (or a new car), my husband added a flat screen TV and a new recliner (his recliner was a hand me down from his dad) and I put….”to be able to give abundantly”.

About 4 years ago we got our flat screen!! Last year I got a job 10 minutes from home that paid well; this enabled us to get a new (fuel efficient) car. Last Christmas I was able to buy a new recliner for my husband. And the best part is that when I did our taxes this year, I tallied up the tithing and all of our various donations throughout the year and it showed that we gave ABUNDANTLY!

I cannot put into words, the feeling that we get from not only being able to give out of obedience to God, but to know that we are helping so many others that are now where we once were. “In God We Trust!!””

If you are struggling with your finances, we encourage you, today, to take a step of faith and follow the example of this couple. As their testimony said, they started out small, and God helped them grow to be able to “give abundantly”!

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-1-15

Ephesians 5:33 (NKJV) 33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Love and respect are very important in a marriage.

We all have our days when we mess up. We may not say the right thing. We may not do the right thing. We may forget things at times and run out of patience with each other. But always remember, it is never too late to say we are sorry.

This goes for both, husbands and wives. If we continue to love the way God has shown us how to love, respect and honor will follow.

It doesn’t mean we have to be perfect at it. It’s not always easy knowing what the other person’s needs are. But it does mean we need to give our all in trying. And what we don’t know how to do, we need to ask God for help with it.

James 1:5 (NKJV) 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Marriages today are struggling, fighting for time to spend with each other. It seems that everything else wins, but our time together.

It’s important to LOVE and respect each other, and the only way we can do this is to spend time together; Quality time.
