Job 9:32-33 (NKJV) 32 “For He is not a man, as I am, That I may answer Him, And that we should go to court together. 33 Nor is there any mediator between us, Who may lay his hand on us both.
I have been spending time in the book of Job again recently.
Job’s story is overflowing with lessons for all of us to learn from. Some of them are quite deep. Some are prophetic. Others are quite basic.
Today, we’re going to look at a little piece of Job that’s both deep, and prophetic. But let’s make it easy to understand.
The verses above were written as Job was deep into his bout with physical health problems due to the attack of the enemy on his body. Some of Job’s friends had been spending time with him, trying to encourage him and help him see things more clearly.
Job was lamenting his current condition and cursing his own existence, wishing he had never been born.
He actually wished he could confront God and argue his case with Him, to ask why he had been so badly afflicted in his physical body when he knew he had not sinned greatly enough to deserve this ailment.
Job told his friend that he knew he couldn’t speak face to face with God because he wouldn’t survive the encounter. He badly wanted a mediator, someone who could act as a middleman, a moderator, a referee of sorts.
Job had no idea that he was speaking prophetically. But as he expressed his thoughts and feelings, he unknowingly spoke about Jesus Christ, Who would show up centuries later, God in the flesh.
Jesus was referred to as the Mediator between God and man several times in the New Testament.
1 Timothy 2:5 (NKJV) 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
As modern believers, it’s important that we recognize the fact that we do have a Mediator. And His position as Mediator cost Him His life.
That sacrifice gives us life, and it gives us direct access to the Father, without fear of retribution or imminent death.
And for that, I am eternally thankful and grateful. Amen.
