Bible Verse of The Day – 4-26-23

Philippians 3:10 (NKJV) 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,

As I have grown and matured as a believer, this verse has become very personal for me.

As the apostle Paul penned these words, he was sharing the deepest possible expressions of His love for and dedication to his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Paul, having previously been a persecutor of “followers of The Way”, was now a Christian himself.

The zeal with which he had pursued and persecuted Christians was now being funneled into his newfound faith in Christ.

Paul was an all-or-nothing kind of person. When he did something, he did it with everything in him.

So, as He worked out his relationship with the Savior, he wanted to know Christ in every aspect. He wanted to know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings.

Paul didn’t just want to know the power that had raised Christ from the dead. He also wanted to know and understand the pain and struggles that Jesus had walked through to get to His ultimate goal; crucifixion and death on the cross.

Paul undoubtedly knew that his faith in Christ might eventually cost him his life. And ultimately it did.

So, this leads me to ask the question, “do we also want to know the fellowship of His sufferings?”.

Are we (you and I) willing to do whatever it takes to walk out our faith, even if it means suffering for it?

This is a question that we need to ask ourselves and give an honest answer to.

Let us seek God and the leading of the Holy Spirit on this most serious topic.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-25-23

Jonah 1:17 (NKJV) 17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

It’s important to take notice that the Lord prepared this great fish that would swallow Jonah, hold him in his belly and spit him out when Jonah’s heart got right.

It wasn’t the doing of Jonah’s enemy, or anyone else for that matter. This was God’s doing.

God asked Jonah to bring a message to Nineveh. But instead, Jonah ran away. He got on a boat to go somewhere other than Nineveh.

Now, you might think, “well, that’s Jonah’s choice. Let him go”.

But God knew Jonah’s heart. And Jonah’s actions proved what God already knew. He was on the run!

The boat that Jonah was on began to face some terrible weather conditions.

The men on board prayed and prayed to their gods. But then they realized when it didn’t cease that there was something else going on. And they knew that Jonah was the cause of it all. They knew he needed to pray to his God

They found Jonah and asked him if he knew anything about this. Jonah told them it was because of him. He was the reason for the weather disturbances.

And he urged them men to just toss him overboard.  So, they did!

And The great fish that God prepared was right there to swallow him up. And he was in its belly for 3 days.

God will often respond to disobedience in ways we may not like. And this can cause us much fear and discomfort.

Just as Jonah did after being 3 days in the belly of this big fish, we will likely have a change of heart when facing the consequences of our choices.

What is going on in our personal lives today?

Maybe it’s not our enemy that’s causing our discomfort or the things that are taking place. Is it God saying, “hey, I asked you to do something and I’m not letting you run from it this time.”?

We have to be willing to obey God in everything He asks us to do, not just in the things that come easy for us or the things we enjoy doing.

Most times we don’t get to pick and choose. And if we’re not careful, God just might send us a “great Jonah fish” and cause us to stop and get things right. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-24-23

1 Peter 2:24 (NKJV) 24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness — by whose stripes you were healed.

Most people who know anything at all about Jesus already know that He bore our sins. He paid the price for the sins that we, you and I, committed.

That’s a well-established and well-known fact that most will readily recognize and admit.

What’s not so well known, or so readily admitted, is the fact that because He bore our sins and died in our place, we, having died to sin, might live for righteousness.

You see, it’s easy to accept the fact that Jesus died for us. Knowing and acknowledging that fact doesn’t require any real effort or sacrifice on our part.

Doing something about it is a different story; a reality that screams for action on our part. And some of those actions require great effort and sacrifices on our end.

This is where things can get a bit sticky for some. Where the men and women are separated from the boys and the girls, so to speak.

It’s where our faith and dedication (or lack of them) become obvious. And it is where we often recognize our own shortcomings when it comes to our willingness to deliver on our commitment to our walk with God.

This is not a hopeless situation, though. It doesn’t have to be a permanent problem that derails our faith and condemns us for eternity.

God is the God of compassion, mercy and hope. And He is willing to forgive us if we are willing to turn from our errant ways and repent.

It’s important that we recognize the debt that was paid for each of us by Christ on that cross, and that we live up to the price that was paid that day.

And as we recognize this, it will cause us to want to live our lives righteously for Him.

In turn, this will cause us to want to do the right thing daily, setting ourselves aside and putting Him first in every aspect of our lives, that we may be acceptable to Him in everything.

Romans 12:1 (NKJV) 12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-22-23

Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV) 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

If we notice, this verse says these are “the fruit”. Fruit by whom? The Spirit!

Only the Holy Spirit can produce them. These are not man’s fruit.

We cannot walk in these by our own efforts. Our flesh is not made up of this type of fruit.

That’s why we find ourselves wrestling at times, asking God, “we know we are supposed to be like this, but how God, how?”.

It seems impossible for us to walk these out.

God does not expect us to walk in this fruit on our own power and strength. The Holy Spirit will help guide us into maturing as believers, and it will become a normal way of living for us.

The first three, love, joy and peace describe our attitude toward God.

The next three, longsuffering, kindness, and goodness deal with social relationships.

The last three describe principles that guide our conduct; faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

It takes time and submission to the Holy Spirit if we are to learn how to walk in such fruit.

Are we ready to change and give Him full control over ourselves?

When we do, He will produce such fruit, and even we will look at ourselves and ask, “who are you?”.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-21-23

Acts 10:34 (NKJV) 34 Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality.

When Peter and some of the others in the early church received the revelation that God shows no partiality, it was life-changing for them.

This took place as the Holy Spirit was in the process of revealing to them that they were no longer restricted when it came to eating or not eating certain kinds of meat.

God had shown Peter in a vision that every animal was now declared clean and approved to be killed and eaten. They were no longer considered to be unclean.

Likewise, people were also no longer to be considered common or unclean (Acts 10:28).

This (Acts 10:28) is a powerful revelation that we all need to grasp the importance of.

In summary, God was declaring everyone equal; Jew or Gentile.

And as the gospel of Christ spread, even into the Gentile communities, this became clearer to everyone.

You see, God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

God chooses whom He will.

He does not subscribe to the whims of man; the fickle thoughts and preferences that divide people by ethnicity, or social status.

God does not consider a person’s wealth or lack of it.

When God chooses to use someone, He does so because He has set that person aside and prepared them for the task at hand. He has called them for a purpose.

The same holds true today. God does not change.

God may choose to use a man or woman with great wealth, with only a little money or with nothing.

Why?

Because God looks at the heart, not on the outward appearance.

1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV) 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

So, know that God can use someone regardless of their current situation. Whether they are the CEO of a major corporation or a person with no financial means whatsoever, God can use them if He chooses to do so.

And that person may even be you!

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-20-23

Luke 5:32 (NKJV) 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

Who are the righteous?

In this example, Jesus was referring to those who are haughty and prideful, who think they don’t need God’s forgiveness, nor believe in His Son, Jesus Christ.

Thus, they remain arrogant, thinking they are better than everyone.

Who are the sinners? We are all sinners.

He has come to call sinners to repent and be saved. This was His purpose from the start.

He wants us to have a humble, repentant heart; a heart full of sincere regret and remorse for the things we have done wrong.

When our hearts are in a place of repentance, we will change. We will find ourselves getting serious with ourselves and with God.

We take off the blinders and look deep within. We open up and we are not afraid to admit the convictions we have at times, and our failed attempts to get them right.

It’s a place where everything gets real.

God will meet us in this place, and our hardness will begin to shed as we share our deepest secrets and allow Him to touch us through His forgiveness. This brings healing, deliverance and encouragement.

Matthew 3:2 (NKJV) 2 … “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”

It is good to have a repentant heart, to be real with God and to make things right.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-19-23

Psalm 18:3 (NKJV) 3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.

Because David was a warrior, he continually faced threats from his enemies.

David’s enemies were natural; humans who wanted to take his life or claim his throne, robbing him of what God had blessed him with.

Many of us also face enemies. But they aren’t always human.

Spiritual enemies are huge in the sense that we can’t see them, but we feel their effects on our lives.

We can also wrestle with emotional enemies. These are also very daunting, since they attack our minds and can cause us to think, say and do things out of fear that we wouldn’t normally think, say or do.

Fear is a big enemy that we all must battle. In fact, it is probably the biggest enemy we will face throughout our lifetimes.

Fear can come in many forms and will come at us for many different reasons.

Unexpected changes in our lives can conjure up extremely fearful images in our minds that can reduce a normally strong adult to a person who can’t even get out of their own way.

How do we, as children of God, overcome fear in our lives?

Each of us is different, and each of our situations are different. But one thing that never changes is the sovereignty of our God.

He never changes (Malachi 3:6). He is the same yesterday, today and forever. His promises never fail. And He is faithful in all things.

It’s important that we hold fast to God in everything that we face; every challenge, every obstacle, every enemy.

It is in knowing Him that we also learn to trust Him. And as we face more obstacles in our lives, and we see Him work and move, our trust in Him grows.

None of us likes to face our enemies; the fears, the uncertainties, the challenges of life.

But it’s in doing so, and overcoming them in Christ, that we truly learn to trust God and lean on Him through it all.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-18-23

1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV) 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Be sober. Another way of saying this is that we are to be self-controlled.

To be self-controlled means that we show or exercise restraint over our impulses, emotions, or desires.

Additionally, the verse above tells us that we are to be vigilant. This means that we are to be alert and watchful.

These two things that are mentioned (being sober and vigilant) are what will help us be ready for our adversary.

The devil is always on the prowl. He is constantly in roaming, seeking and devouring mode.

People may think, ”oh, that’s not positive talk. We like to hear about the good stuff. We like talking about the blessings of God”.

We do too!

But if we don’t learn about our enemy, who he is and what he is about, we will not beat him at his game.

I want to win, don’t you?

So, let’s break him down a bit more, so we can be sure to understand who he is.

John 8:44 (NKJV) 44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

Here we see he is a murderer and a liar.

He will take our life from us and not even blink an eye. He will lie to us over and over, making us think something is true. But like John 8:44 says, there is no truth in him.

Matthew 4:1 (NKJV) 1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

The devil is a tempter!

He tempted God’s Son, Jesus Christ, in the wilderness during a very crucial time in His life, right at the beginning of His ministry.

He was there in the wilderness, trying to stop Jesus from walking out His purpose. He didn’t wait for the most opportune time. He just made sure he was there.

If he will tempt Jesus and not have a problem with it, he will tempt us that much more, and never even blink an eye!

He is a thief.

He will steal anything he can from us; our children, our home, our marriage, our health. And most importantly, he will work really hard to try to steal our relationship with God.

How do we defeat him? We will tell you in one word; resist!

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Now, we can’t do this on our own. But with the help of the Holy Spirit, we resist him and everything he tries to do to us.

The Holy Spirit will give us strength to overcome his attacks by helping us be self-controlled and watchful!  Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-17-23

Mark 1:3 (NKJV) 3 “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight”.

Centuries ago, John the Baptist showed up and began preaching, preparing the hearts of the people for the Messiah; the One who was still to come.

John’s message was unique, something that was new; a message compelling people to be baptized unto repentance, for the remission of their sins.

Not long after, Jesus arrived and shared these words:

Mark 1:15 (NKJV) 15 … “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

John baptized unto repentance. Jesus told people to repent.

Now, thousands of years later, we want to share that same message; repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand.

We are not insinuating that the world is about to end, but that the world is definitely in a terrible state, and that it is largely due to sin.

The human condition has continued to decline. Increased sin is a sure sign of that.

We are calling the church to repentance on a large scale. It is crucial that the bride of Christ recognizes the season in which we live.

So, just as John the Baptist cried out in the wilderness, we too are crying out, “repent”!

As our recent video stated, many have left their first love. It’s time to return to the One who loves us so much that He gave His life to offer us redemption.

Come, church. Come back to Him and make Him your first love again.

“Make straight the way of the Lord”.

Amen
