Bible Verse of The Day – 6-8-23

Zephaniah 3:17 (NKJV) 17 The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”

Let’s focus on where this verse says, “He will quiet you with His love”.

There have been many times that God has done this for me, quieted me with His love, especially when I needed Him the most.

He was there, quietly reminding me Who I belong to. He knew my emotions; my pain, my sorrow. He knew what I needed at that time.

When God touches us in this way, these are the most beautiful and fulfilling moments in our lives.

When He quiets us with His love, it will last through the entire trial we are going through. It will stick with us. It’s like He deposits in us exactly what we need to carry us through.

His love has a way of keeping us and holding us tightly. It gives us strength to continue on. It gives us determination to reach the other side of our situation, and even go beyond what we ever thought we could do.

Your thoughts may be taking you in every direction today. Your emotions may be all over the place, wearing you down. Your situation may be too heavy for you.

He is willing to quiet you with His love, right now, right where you are.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-7-23

James 2:18 (NKJV) 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

Following God, and obeying His leading, is easier for some than for others.

Some people do their best to follow God but find it difficult to keep doing so when the rubber meets the road and God asks them to do something difficult or uncomfortable.

Others seem to have less difficulty, seemingly zipping down the path of life and never batting an eye, even when God places something before them to do that’s difficult.

The difference between the two people lies in how much they really trust God.

Both say they trust God and have faith in Him, but their actions speak much louder than their words.

If we say we trust Him, but we run away when facing difficulties or when He asks us to do something hard, then our trust isn’t what we might think or say it is.

The test of a believer is when God puts His finger on something in our lives and asks us to obey Him.

When life is going well for us, we usually have no trouble obeying Him and doing what He asks. But when we’re being pinched, and things are tough, we may start to hesitate and make excuses to try to avoid stepping out and obeying.

Now, let’s get real and talk about something that’s extremely sensitive, and very telling when God puts His finger on it and asks us to obey Him; money.

Money is something so few believers want God to put His finger on and ask them to part with.

But the believer who has strong faith, and who truly trusts God with everything, will obey Him and do whatever God asks them to do with the money and material things He has blessed them with. And they will trust God to continue to provide for them in whatever way He sees fit.

Why?

Because they know and understand that everything they have is His, not theirs.

It all belongs to Him!

We are stewards. Nothing more, nothing less.

Steward: a person who manages another’s personal or financial affairs or possessions. administrator, manager, agent

What we have been given possession of is only for a season. There just might come a time when God asks us to open our hands and pour out what He has entrusted us with.

And that day will tell us a lot about ourselves.

That day will eventually come for each and every one of us.

What will we do? Will we clench our fists tightly, determined to hold on to what God wants us to surrender, or will we open our hands and say, “here it is, Father. Do with it as you will”.

Which one are we?

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-6-23

Proverbs 31:10 (NKJV) 10 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.

A wife of valor is a wife of excellence. She is excellent in all aspects.

Is she a perfect wife?

No. No one is perfect, but Jesus Christ.

However, what we are looking at is a woman who honors and fears the Lord. it is she that will be praised!

Proverbs 31:30 (NKJV) 30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.

Her heart will long for God and to please Him first and foremost.

She will have a strong desire to obey Him, praise Him and honor Him with her whole being!

Because she fears God, the reflection of her heart will cause her husband to safely trust her, knowing that she belonged to Him first.

Proverbs 31:11 (NKJV) 11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain.

Not only will her husband trust her, but her children will look upon their mother and call her blessed, as her heart will feel the responsibility to raise and nurture them according to the word of God.

Is it easy for her, and does everything feel joyous and happy at all times?

No. Not all the time. Some days it will feel very hard to continue forward. But she will keep pressing in and not give up.

It is a full-time position that requires her to give 100% every minute, as she carefully follows the promptings of the Holy Spirit as He guides her in all her ways to do all things that bring glory to her Lord and Savior.

Proverbs 31:28 (NKJV) 28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her…

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-5-23

Matthew 5:6 (NKJV) 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

Most believers struggle to fully understand the importance of what Jesus was saying here.

What does it really mean to hunger and thirst after righteousness?

Do we really know? Or do we just nod in agreement and keep reading?

Have you ever been hungry? I mean really, really hungry. You’ve gone a long spell without food and you can’t wait to get your hands on something good to eat.

As you prepare to finally eat, your stomach is rumbling, your mouth is watering and you’re full of anticipation as you ready yourself for that first bite of food.

We all know this feeling, right?

Hungering and thirsting after righteousness should be like this, but so much stronger.

We need to allow God to develop in us a hunger for His ways that far exceeds our hunger for natural food.

Do you remember what Jesus told His disciples when they urged Him to take the time to eat?

John 4:32 (NKJV) 32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.”

This is the best example of hungering after righteousness that we can follow. Jesus was willing to deprive His body of food while giving 110% of Himself to be about His Father’s work.

What do we hunger after?

On what do we spend our time and energy?

How hungry are we to learn and know the Father’s ways and His path for our lives?

That right there is the million-dollar question that we all must answer, both to ourselves and to the God who created us and gave to us the breath of life.

If you’d like to learn more about hungering and thirsting after God, feel free to read this blog post that we wrote a few years ago. Click Here to read more.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-3-23

Isaiah 55:8 (NKJV) 8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.

God will put us where we need to be right when He wants to use us.

Maybe today you are struggling with finding a new job. You are feeling like your workplace is getting old and stale, and you want something new.

Maybe you need a higher salary. Maybe you want a new title. But for some reason it is not happening; it’s taking way too long.

Maybe you are desiring something that is not at all related to a job. We all have different needs.

Why is it taking so long?

Maybe, just maybe, God may need you right where you are.

Maybe, just maybe, as you begin to give it your all and you are passionate about what you are doing, He will open your eyes to see His thoughts regarding your situation.

For instance, why are you in the place you are?  And how can He use you in a great way, right there?

Maybe your desire or the change you’re seeking will come after you have surrendered and have begun to be content right where He has you?

Don’t be depressed or dismayed if it is taking longer than you thought it would.

Try and look at it from a different point of view.

Sometimes God needs you to be there. This may be why no doors are opening and no change is coming to your situation.

We must be willing and obedient to do whatever it takes to press in and stay the course. He will take care of the rest of your concerns as you obey Him with a heart of gratitude.

Someone today is struggling with this right now; we are praying with you. We know it’s not easy, but it is in His control.

As you surrender, you will watch it all unfold.

Our way isn’t necessarily His way.

It’s important for us to be thankful that He protects us and keeps us on the path that is better for us. He goes before us.

Deuteronomy 31:8 (NKJV) 8 And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-2-23

Mark 10:7-8 (NKJV) 7 ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, 8 and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh.

Marriage is a sacred covenant between God and a man and woman who have chosen to spend their lives together as one.

The key to marriage is understanding the concept of the two becoming one flesh.

There is a physical aspect to this that involves sexual intimacy. But it goes way beyond that.

Marriage is a contract between a man and a woman. That contract is ratified before God and any other parties who may be present at the marriage ceremony.

From the moment they enter into that sacred contract, their lives change.

They no longer have just themselves to think about. They are now bound to another human being, joined together as one.

Everything about their lives should change accordingly.

Some couples wrestle with this. Surrendering their personal sovereignty can be challenging at times.

But it’s important that we work at this and do our best to make it happen.

Without this, a marriage becomes very lopsided. And it can cause trouble over the years due to this imbalance.

When it comes to marriage, there should no longer be “yours or mine”. It should now all be “ours”.

This should apply to possessions, finances, etc.

Everything that is done should be done based on mutual consent, not solely on one person’s preference or opinion.

Everything is now based on both parties, not just one.

Compromise is a major part of successful marriages. Learning to give and take, not just take, is a big deal.

Some couples settle into this easier than others. But any couple can master this if both are willing to work at it and do their best to help make it happen.

So, we urge you to do just that; work at this. Let God lead you in everything.

And as you do this, watch as your marriage flourishes under His covering.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-1-23

Jeremiah 10:12 (NKJV) 12 He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, And has stretched out the heavens at His discretion.

At who’s discretion were the heavens stretched out? Almighty God’s!

What does that mean?

It means He did it the way He knew it needed to be done and the way that He knew it would work!

Everything that needed to be done was done according to His discretion.

Thank You, Lord!

It was all done with excellence and perfection! There is no need to try and add to it or take away from it. No need to change anything. It has all been established by His power and wisdom.

If we are concerned about the world today, we must be prayerful.

Trust that His plan will all come together accordingly. As His children, we are safe. And one day, the world as a whole will bow their knee and confess to Him. Amen.

Romans 14:11 (NKJV) 11 For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-31-23

Hebrews 12:28-29 (NKJV) 28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. 29 For our God is a consuming fire.

Fear God.

How often do we hear people speak about this in a way that doesn’t water it down?

A few years ago, I had shared one of our devotionals on Facebook. That devotional touched on the topic of fearing God.

Someone I knew said he enjoyed the devotional, but he thought that the words, “fearing God”, should have been replaced with the words, “loving God”.

And his comment proved my point that very few people truly comprehend how important it is that we understand what the Bible means when it says we are to fear God.

Fearing God doesn’t mean that we walk around afraid that God is going to strike us down at any given moment.

The Bible calls us to walk in a reverent fear of our Creator, understanding His sovereignty and His power.

Verse 28, above, says that we should “serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear”.

Then, verse 29 goes on to say that “our God is a consuming fire”.

There are many verses throughout the word of God that mention “the terror of God”, or “the terror of the Lord”.

This sounds more like genuine fear than mushy love.

You see, we are to love God. But that love should not replace our fear (absolute reverence) of Him.

For when we lose our fear of Him and begin treating Him with less reverence and respect than He is due, we are surely not looking at Him for who He really is.

And that is a path that leads to disaster.

Let us serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-30-23

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NKJV) 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Why do we have to rejoice, pray, and give thanks? Because it is the will of God for us.

These are the things we must do to build up our relationship in God.

We often get asked the question, “how do we know what God is saying?”. And we always answer by saying, “get close to Him”.

How do we get close?

Knowing what scripture tells us to do, and then obeying it, will definitely get His attention.

He will draw near to us as we draw near to Him.

He will be so near to us that we will instantly be convicted when we are about to make a wrong move.

What a beautiful life!

He will show us in advance if we are about to do something wrong or if someone is about to take us out or cause us harm.

And by obeying what God shows us to do regarding it, we will avoid the situation and keep on moving forward. Wow!

It doesn’t come easy. We have to make an effort to get close to God to achieve such discernment.

By listening to His word and doing it, we will surely grow closer.

Start here by rejoicing, praying and giving thanks from our hearts, and we are on our way to a closer walk with Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-29-23

James 4:7-8 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

I recently watched a short video of a woman who was talking about people who struggle for long periods of time with specific sins.

In her video, she compared this with crucifixions. Her analogy described the long, torturous death of crucifixion with the long struggle of breaking free from a specific sin that has been hard to shake.

As part of her analogy, she used the example of someone who is married but struggles for a long time to stop desiring others after they are married.

While I understand her analogy, I disagree with it vehemently.

Here’s why.

Long struggles with a specific sin are almost always the result of us not completely submitting to God.

I know. Some who are reading this are disagreeing with me right now.

They are saying, “but you don’t know how hard it can be sometimes to shake certain things”.

And here is my response to that.

We wrestle with sin at length because we do not wholly submit to God. Not submitting to God makes it hard for us to resist the sin.

The word of God is plain and clear; Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from us.

This may seem oversimplified. But it is not.

It is 100% true, accurate and effective counsel.

Sin that plagues us for long periods of time can only do so if we fail to take ALL steps necessary to defeat it.

Some may think that this is alluding to many steps; a long, painful process of breaking free and claiming victory.

But it’s not.

The road to get there can be very long and painful for many. But this is not due to God’s weakness or lack of sovereignty.

It is due to our own weakness and our own unwillingness to RESIST the devil.

Resisting the devil doesn’t require a specific program. It does not require someone to lay hands on us and pray for us. It does not require us to confess our sin to someone else for moral support.

Those things may help. But until we passionately decide within ourselves that we are done with that sin, and we commit fully to defeating it, it will continue to hound us and plague us.

Two words are the key; submit, resist.

We need to humbly submit ourselves to God, our Creator and Redeemer, admitting that we can’t do it on our own.

And we need to ask and allow God to help us resist the devil when he comes to lure us into another snare.

It is only when we do this that we will end the struggle that swallows so many of us up as we try again and again to overcome long term sin.

Submit. Resist. Defeat Sin.
