Bible Verse of The Day – 8-24-23

Acts 4:18-20 (NKJV) 18 So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”

Truth. It is something that has come to mean less and less to many people.

Truth is sometimes shunned.

Truth is sometimes called evil when it offends a person or group of people.

Truth is sometimes banned when it brings to light the ill behavior or evil intentions of others.

Truth, when stood for, can often bring punishment or chastisement upon those who are bold enough to stand for it.

The threat of punishment or chastisement is frequently enough to cause people to withhold the truth and stay silent.

Fear will cause even the strongest people to shrink back at times.

But truth is worth standing for.

Paul and Silas stood for it. And it cost them (Acts 16:22-23).

Peter and John stood for it. And it cost them.

John the Baptist stood for it. And it cost him (Matthew 14:3).

The word of God is full of examples of people who stood for truth, even when it cost them greatly.

And truth is still worth standing for today, even if it costs us.

We need to recognize what might have happened if people in history lacked the courage or the fortitude to stand up and speak truth when God prompted them to do so.

All the disciples stood and spoke truth. Mighty prophets of God spoke truth. Many who we may never know about spoke truth.

Because of their willingness to stand, even when it was unpopular or dangerous to do so, God’s plans were carried out. And we were able to hear the truth that they proclaimed.

That truth has changed our lives and altered our destinies for eternity.

Let us also be bold and courageous, standing and speaking truth as God prompts us to do so.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-23-23

Ecclesiastes 12:13 (NKJV) 13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all.

As the book of Ecclesiastes was concluding, the author made his final statement with a summary of sorts that gave us the “moral of the story”; “Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all”.

In simpler English, “Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind”, as taken from the NIV translation.

This sums up what should be our life’s goal; to serve God wholeheartedly, since it is the only thing that really matters.

Ecclesiastes is chock full of statements meant to bring awareness to the fact that anything other than our pursuit of God “is vanity; chasing after the wind” (Ecclesiastes 1:14, Ecclesiastes 2:11, etc.).

As a child of God, this is something that we should each take very personally.

Nobody can walk this walk for us. It is ours to walk. And our salvation is ours to “work out with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12).

But as we do walk this out, we can rest assured that God walks before us, laying out the path for our feet to walk upon.

His word is a lamp that shines on our feet and a light that illuminates the path before us (Psalm 119:105).

It shows us where our feet are about to land, and where our next steps should be taken, exposing any dangers that might be lurking there.

Some might ask why God does not remove those dangers, making the path clear and easy. He is, after all, the Mighty One, Creator of all that we see, and the Giver of Life. So, why would He not remove them?

God never promised us a smooth path, free of obstacles or obstructions.

It is the obstacles and obstructions in our lives that build our character and teach us to persevere (Romans 5:3-4).

And more importantly, the trials that we face help grow and build our faith and trust in Him.

Let us walk this path of life knowing that in the end, He is all that matters. So let us make each step count as we look to Him and trust Him in everything that we do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-22-23

Mark 16:15-16 (NKJV) 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

Why do we find it hard to walk in this promise?

Jesus is commissioning the disciples to go out into the world and preach the gospel to every creature. Every single creature that they can reach. He does not discriminate or leave anyone out.

He says that anyone they preach to who believes and is baptized in His name will be saved, and these signs will follow them.

Mark 16:17-18 (NKJV) 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

It’s very important that we understand who “they” are that He is talking about. When He says they, He is speaking about all people who believe in Him and are baptized.

What signs are going to follow them?

In His name they will cast out demons, speak with new tongues, and lay hands on the sick. What does He say will happen? They shall recover!

What are we missing in the bride today?

Signs. What signs? Casting out demons, speaking in tongues and healing of those who are sick.

We are in deep trouble if we think we can do this work of God without the Holy Spirit. These signs should be normal activity for Spirit-filled believers. But do we see it happening?

The enemy is holding people in captivity because of our lack of knowledge and faith in God’s promise to us.

Why are we afraid to take the step and let the Holy Spirit have control of our tongue and speak through us the very words that will speak to God?

1 Corinthians 14:2 (NKJV) 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

Why are we so afraid to step out? Do we think it was only for a certain people or time period, and thus we ignore it?

Once we understand that praying in tongues is for every believer today, we will want to pray even more.

When we know and understand that the Holy Spirit wants us to lay hands on the sick and cast out demons so people can be delivered, we will be about the work of advancing God’s kingdom with the help of the Holy Spirit moving through us.

Nothing will hold us back!

Followers of Christ, we need to let our Helper, the Holy Spirit, guide us.

Let Him move through us by praying in tongues, casting out demons, and laying hands on the sick, for they will recover!

Amen!

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-21-23

Romans 8:5 (NKJV) 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

If we were to spend time observing unbelievers, we would see that their lives are spent being concerned with earthly (worldly) things.

The things that occupy their minds and take up their time have little or no spiritual value.

The reason behind this is simple; they live by (according to) the flesh.

As Paul says in 1 Corinthians 6:11 when dealing with worldliness in the lives of believers, “And such were some of you”.

In other words, we were all like this before we became children of God.

After being born again, our spirit has been quickened (awakened, made alive), so we can now commune with God, who is Spirit.

And as we commune with Him, allowing Him to mold us, shape us and transform us (Romans 12:2), we will begin to live less by the flesh and more by the Spirit, shaking off those old habits that we carried when we were still dead in our sins.

As this happens, we should see ourselves less concerned with worldly (fleshly) things.

If we are still living primarily by the flesh, let us ask God to examine us and check our hearts, showing us where we are lacking in our walk with Him.

He is faithful to show us. We just have to make sure we are faithful to listen and take seriously what He shows us.

And if we are faithful to confess our shortcomings to Him, “He is faithful and just to forgive us for those same sins, cleansing us from all unrighteousness”.

1 John 1:9 (NKJV) 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

So, let us be careful to make a conscious effort to set our minds on the things of the Spirit, not the things of the flesh, that we may live our lives in a way that is pleasing to Him, and that brings glory and honor to Him in all things.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-19-23

Psalm 100:3 (NKJV) 3 Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

God knows us better than we know ourselves. That is why it is so good for us to go to Him daily for wisdom and understanding.

He knows us and how we tick. He knows every little detail about us.

He knows what is good or bad for us. So, letting Him guide us in our steps is the best choice we could ever make.

For that to happen we must surrender to Him our thoughts and intellectual reasoning. This includes our questions as to why this and why not that?

We must literally trust Him with our whole being, and follow Him through to the end.

We are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Sheep need a shepherd, and our Shepherd is the Lord!

We shall not want. We shall lie down in green pastures. We will walk by still waters. Our soul will be restored, and we will be led on the path of righteousness for His name’s sake!

Psalm 23:1-3 (NKJV) 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-18-23

Hebrews 12:6 (NKJV) 6 For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”

God disciplines those whom He loves. And that discipline often includes some harsh chastisement.

As our Father, He wants us to learn and understand certain things.

Choices have consequences for us as individuals, as they do for larger entities.

When nations abandon Him, He would be a hypocrite if He did not discipline that nation.

Why?

Because His word and His promises are true, even when those promises are not flowery and cheerful.

God remains the same forever. He does not change.

Malachi 3:6 (NKJV) 6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

So, if He says He will discipline or chasten His children, we should expect this kind of thing to happen.

But fear not. There is a fix for this!

God’s word makes it plain and clear that if a nation recognizes their sin and takes steps to correct its path, asking for God’s forgiveness, He will hear them and heal their land.

2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV) 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Sometimes this requires major sacrifices on our part.

In addition to removing the sin from our lives, prayer and fasting are important pieces to the puzzle.

Nobody likes to hear about fasting, but it is one of the things that can move things (spiritual obstacles) that will otherwise not move. So, we should not be quick to discount it or ignore it.

Are you troubled and distressed by what you see happening in the world right now?

Do you recognize the spiritual battles that are taking place right before our eyes?

Do you want to help fight and win this battle?

Take action.

We all play a part in restoring whatever nation we might live in that has strayed.

Repent. Pray. Fast.

Seek Him wholeheartedly. Ask Him what it is that He would have you do to help restore your nation.

And then do whatever it is that He shows you to do, even if it might be difficult or uncomfortable for a season.

If we do our part, God is faithful to do His.

We hope this series has been insightful, informative, and helpful.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-17-23

Isaiah 5:20 (NKJV) 20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

As we left off yesterday, we were discussing the fact that a nation in decline will reach a point where it eventually plunges into darkness, and the righteous try desperately holding onto God and what is good.

Those who have abandoned God will begin blatantly displaying evil in plain sight.

As this happens, evil becomes labeled as good and good becomes labeled as evil in the minds of corrupt leaders. And many of the people follow suit.

Immorality will begin to become the norm.

Sexual sins will often become commonplace to the point where they barely garner any attention, even in plain sight.

Tyrannical government leaders will become unconstrained in their rampage against God and all that He stands for, acting as gods themselves.

Human lives will become worth nothing in the eyes of the depraved government leaders and those who support that government’s policies.

It will reach a point where it seems completely hopeless, as though all is lost, and nothing can save that nation.

But God’s word has something to say about this.

The scripture at the beginning of yesterday’s devotional (Proverbs 14:34) said that “sin is a reproach to any people”.

The word “reproach” could also be replaced with “shame” or “disgrace”.

Judgment eventually comes to these nations if they do not repent.

It even happened to Israel, as we saw God allow evil kings to raid and overthrow them, multiple times, eventually exiling its people to faraway lands.

Israel became a vast wasteland, with only a tiny remnant of God’s chosen people left dwelling there.

You may ask why God would allow this to happen, especially to those He calls His own.

Let’s talk about that tomorrow.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-16-23

Proverbs 14:34 (NKJV) 34 Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people.

A nation who honors God in everything they do will always prosper.

If we were to look back through history, we would see a pattern where nations who put God first, and honored Him in how that nation was governed, became great.

Conversely, nations who were/are Godless tend not to last long, or they are in constant turmoil, with governments that are repeatedly changing, being overthrown, etc.

Without God at the forefront, there is no stability.

If we were to look at current events, and back through history, we would also see nations that started out on the right foot, putting God first. But as they strayed from their faith and left God behind, they began to falter, morally, economically, and socially. And they eventually crumbled.

Many such nations end up being invaded by outside neighboring countries, with their governments being taken down and replaced by ruthless leaders.

Other countries in this situation simply erode into a weak, pitiful mess where chaos and confusion reign, with evil completely unrestricted.

A sure sign that a nation is in decline is a marked increase in corruption.

God will be eliminated from every facet of that government and that nation.

He becomes nothing more than a distant memory. And with that mindset, evil increases rapidly.

Wickedness and sin no longer hide in the shadows. They become brazen and blatant; in your face and wide open for the world to see.

There is no longer any shame.

Lawlessness increases drastically. And the ensuing chaos will become more than many people can understand or bear.

Soon, that nation will become divided, as the remaining righteous men and women desperately hold onto what they know is right, and those who have abandoned God continue their downward spiral. And that nation plunges into darkness.

Please join us tomorrow for the continuation of this teaching.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-15-23

John 8:12 (NKJV) 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

He is the light.

In order to not walk in darkness, we must follow Him.

Following Him means we must know what He says. And in order to know what He says we have to study His word.

We can’t just study a little here and a little there. We can’t just study when we have the time. We have to make the time.

We have to be diligent in our studies, willing to put aside other things that we enjoy doing, and pick up the word of God to study or meditate on it.

Joshua 1:8 (NKJV) 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

It’s not going to just happen.

We have to make it happen.

How do we do that? By being in it night and day.

We will only follow Him to the fullest if we know what it is we have to do to follow Him. We must have His word hidden in our heart.

Not only does it keep us accountable for our actions, it also gives us strength to say no to certain things when we need to.

It helps us to stay disciplined and balanced in every area of our lives.

Psalm 119:11 (NKJV) 11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-14-23

Genesis 3:15 (NKJV) 15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

As God spoke to the serpent (satan) after he had deceived Eve, He clearly laid out his future and the defeat he would ultimately suffer at the hands of the coming Redeemer (Christ).

The enemy had no idea what God was referring to when He said, “He shall bruise your head”.

What God meant was that the coming Redeemer would deal him a fatal blow, removing the power of death from him by rising from the dead Himself, defeating death with a blow of finality.

Christ would crush his head under His feet with this single, miraculous act.

Death itself would die.

This all happened through a chain of events that is utterly impossible for human minds to completely comprehend.

The precision with which God moved and worked to tie everything together neatly over the centuries is truly mind boggling.

Specific people had to be born and precisely placed in time and in geographical locales.

Events would have to play out that would cause certain shifts in populations.

Stars would have to be put in place to shine and signal the birth of the Redeemer.

And there was so much more that happened that we cannot begin to fathom with our finite minds.

But it happened. And because God was faithful in His promise to redeem humanity, Christ came, lived, died, and rose again.

And it is solely because of this that we are offered redemption and the forgiveness of our sins through the sacrifice that Christ made for you and me.

Let us not forget or make light of the depth of this incredible miracle, and the intricate, powerful way by which God carried it out.
