(Eph 2:8-9 NKJV) For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, {9} not of works, lest anyone should boast.
We are saved by grace, through faith.
I want to touch base on this scripture once more to make sure there is no confusion when it comes to the balance between faith and works.
Let me start by stating very strongly that we are never, ever saved by our works! We are saved solely by trusting God for our salvation.
Giving to the needy won’t save us. Helping someone out won’t save us. Being nice to someone won’t save us. These are, however, all things that we should be doing. These are works… an outward expression of our faith, not a way of earning our salvation.
God makes us aware of our sinful state and then He gives us the faith to believe that He can save us. We take the action of accepting that offer of salvation.
This is NOT works! This is simply accepting a gift being offered to us.
Putting our faith and trust in God is an action… something that we consciously choose to do. This action is required for us to accept God’s offer of salvation, but it is not works in the sense that we do something to earn God’s favor or salvation.
Salvation can never be earned. Jesus paid for it when He died on the cross, in our place. That gift is being offered to us today, free of charge.
If you have never accepted this gift personally, please do so today. Your sins can be forgiven and your eternal destiny can be secure.
