Bible Verse of The Day – 3-23-12

(Neh 8:10 NKJV)  Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our LORD. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

The joy of the Lord is your strength!

Have you lost your joy? Does it feel like you’re living under a huge cloud of condemnation and regret?

If this is you, know that this is not of God! Condemnation, guilt and regret are not of God. They are of the enemy.

God convicts us of sin in our lives, but He does not condemn us. Most times, if we’re feeling condemned, it’s because someone has spoken words of condemnation to us.

Maybe it was a family member. Maybe it was a co-worker. Maybe it was a church member or even a church leader. But no matter who it was, it was not God, our creator and redeemer.

If you’re feeling condemned because someone said something to you that has caused you to feel that way, maybe it’s time to get away from those people. If that’s not possible, maybe it’s time to start brushing off what they say to us and hearing what God has to say.

His joy is our strength. So if we’ve lost our joy, let’s get it back in the name of Jesus!

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-22-12

(Phil 4:11-12 NKJV) Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: {12} I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

Paul was content whether he was doing well or not so well. But nevertheless He knew that God would come through and deliver him at all times. He knew that His life was with God no matter what happened to Him and that was all He needed.

We are a child of the Almighty God! He is our Father. He cares about us, He loves us dearly and He wants the best for us!

Believe Him for that new job, new car, bigger pay increase, to be able to stay home with your children, to deliver your teen from bad influences, to give you a child you’ve been waiting for, to restore your broken marriage, to heal you and to bring on the breakthrough that you need.

Love Him today with all your heart and sing to Him. Talk to Him…tell Him how wonderful He is and thank Him for taking good care of you.

We can be content in HIM… He is all we need!

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-21-12

(James 1:21-24 NKJV)  Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. {22} But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. {23} For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; {24} for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

Let’s talk about something today that isn’t always easy to talk about, but it’s good that we do so because getting God on this can make us much stronger believers and much better witnesses for the kingdom of God. This might get a little lengthy, but I’ll try to keep it short, so please bear with me!

Are we doers of the word, or are we hearers only? Or are we maybe part-time doers?

The verses above are stuffed full of meat for us to chew on when it comes to how we talk the talk vs. how we walk the walk. So let’s see if we can glean what we need from this.

What does it mean when James says that someone who only hears the word looks at himself in a mirror and then goes away and immediately forgets who he is?

That person is leading a double life. He is saying one thing and then doing something else. He is talking the talk, but not walking the walk. He is one way when he’s around certain people (maybe his church friends) and then he is another way when he is away from that crowd.

Are we acting righteous when we’re around our church friends or godly people and then acting the complete opposite when we’re around people who don’t know God? Do we speak a certain way or avoid using certain language when we’re around godly people, but talk like the rest of the world when we’re in the world?

God wants our whole hearts. He’d rather that we be hot or cold and not mediocre or lukewarm.

As I mentioned earlier, this is a tough thing for some of us to swallow. But it’s something that we absolutely need to get into us if we ever want to move beyond being “baby Christians”.

Are we “laying aside all filthiness and wickedness” or are we hanging onto it for one reason or another? There is so much more that can be said about this, but it would take so long to really get into it.

Let’s ask ourselves and God if we’re really walking out the things that He is trying to impart into us, or if we’re looking in the mirror and then forgetting who we are as soon as we walk away.

God loves us and His grace is what keeps us moving forward as we learn to walk the walk instead of just talking the talk.

Press into Him today!

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-20-12

(Eccl 3:7 NKJV)  A time to tear, And a time to sew; A time to keep silence, And a time to speak…

There are times when we need to keep silent. This is easy for those that don’t mind being quiet in the midst of a storm. Some people don’t really care to talk about anything; they like to listen and take everything in. But for those that have a mouth and like to use it, well this verse may hit home.

There is a balance to everything and we need to understand that God can and will bring balance to us. We are not too far gone to where He cannot help us.

There are times to keep silent; this simply means that we don’t always get to speak when we think we should or FEEL like it, or when someone makes us mad or challenges us. There is a time to be still and let Him deliver us without us opening our mouths!!

Then there are times when we need to speak, whether we feel like it or not. We need to stand up and be strong and say what God has placed in our hearts to say.

We want to make sure we get God’s wisdom, understanding and that we wait on His timing.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-19-12

(1 Cor 15:57 NKJV)  But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Be encouraged today. Know that no matter what you’re going through, there will be victory!

We don’t always know how or when the victory will come, but it will come.

We don’t always know what that victory will look like, but God will give us victory.

If you’re going through a trial or a struggle today, we call forth the victory in the name of Jesus!

Lift up your head and look to the One who gives life. He is our sustainer, our provider and our redeemer. There is nothing too big for Him to handle.

No matter what’s standing in front of you right now and no matter how difficult your circumstances are right now, stand knowing that God has the final word.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-17-12

(1 Pet 2:15 NKJV)  For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men…

If we put God first in our daily walk we may find days when will have to sacrifice the things we want to do in order to do the things He wants us to do.

At first it may be really challenging, but as we continue it will get better and after a while we won’t even think much about it; it will come naturally.

Knowing how to do good comes from reading God’s Word and being taught right from wrong. Then, we take the steps and apply them to our everyday situations.

Sometimes we may not know the right thing to do at the moment some situations occur. Always wait on God, He will never steer us wrong.

God is a Good God!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-16-12

(Rom 12:19 NKJV)  Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.

During the last several months, God has been trying to teach me about this verse. Notice I said “trying” to teach me?

We have walked through some tests and trials during the last several months, especially when it comes to personal attacks coming from people that we know personally. I know that the enemy is using these people, but I have to admit that there have been moments when I have had a little bit of a hard time keeping myself from wanting to take matters into my own hands and getting in their faces.

As a husband and a father, I have a fiercely-protective side of me that I am learning to restrain in certain situations. It’s not been an easy thing for me, but God is teaching me a lot through all of this.

I have also learned that there are times when people just simply don’t want to work out disagreements, no matter how badly you want to. So most times it really is better to just put some things aside and move on, letting God handle it for you.

Despite the fact that it often looks like the bad guys always win, God keeps reminding me that the “victories” that the bad guys seem to have are only temporary and are taking place in a temporal world, whereas He gives us victory for eternity.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-15-12

(Rom 8:1 NKJV)  There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

There is no condemnation for those in Christ. Period.

Way too many believers live under condemnation of some sort. Some of it comes from guilt about things from the past. Some of it comes from judgment from other people in the body of Christ. And sometimes it even comes from our spiritual leaders.

None of us should ever feel condemned. Jesus took all of our condemnation on the cross and put it to death there, once and for all.

God will convict us when we’re out of line, but He will NEVER condemn us.

If you’re feeling weighed down with guilt or condemnation today, take a good look at why this is happening. Do you have unconfessed and unforgiven sin in your life that’s making you feel guilty? Are you being judged unjustly by your peers or your leaders?

If this condemnation is coming from others, it might be time to find some new people to spend time with.

Jesus hung guilt and condemnation on the cross and defeated it permanently, so there is no need for us to still be carrying it around. Lay it to rest right now, in the name of Jesus!

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-14-12

(Psa 51:10 NKJV) Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Our prayer today is that this verse speaks to us in such a way that in everything we do, we do it for God. Whether it’s at work or at home, wherever we go, may this verse be so fresh on our minds that we would think twice before we say or do things that would be against what God has taught us.

If we want to grow and have a deeper relationship with Christ, a beautiful marriage a good relationship with our children etc., the first step in making anything better is to get our own hearts right with God.

This means that we need to take a good look at ourselves and the things that we’re doing and let God help us to make the necessary changes that need to be made in us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-13-12

(Phil 2:4-8 NKJV)  Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. {5} Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, {6} who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, {7} but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. {8} And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Selfish, self-centered, self-seeking, self-fulfilling; these words conjure up a lot in our minds when we think about them, don’t they?

And let’s be honest with ourselves; when we think of these words, we typically think of others that we know, don’t we?

The fragile nature of life has really been hitting home with us lately. God has impressed on us how important it is for us to appreciate the life that we’ve been blessed with. He wants us to make the most of it, each and every single day.

Being self-centered is easy for most of us. It’s almost second nature if we live by the flesh. If we live by God’s spirit, though, being selfish will become more and more difficult to do.

God wants us to consider others and see them as being important. We’re put here to love God and be a light to this dying world.

Take a few minutes today to ask God if your life is impacting anyone else around you in a positive way. Our lives should be a light to them without us having to preach to them or quote scriptures to them. It’s not about how many Bible verses we quote on a daily basis, but what we say and do in everyday settings and situations that impacts them the most!

It’s up to us to love them and impact their lives with our own lives. God has equipped us for this!

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-12-12

(Gen 2:24 NKJV)  Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

God has blessed us as humans, with a beautiful thing called marriage.

The bond shared between a husband and wife is intended to be sacred. It is ordained of God and meant to last a lifetime.

Unfortunately, we as humans have figured out ways to make a mess of it and drag marriages through the mud. We’ve seen this on the part of men and women.

Recently I have been asking God a lot of questions about why marriages fail and why people end up cheating on their spouses. He’s been giving me a lot of revelation as to why this goes on and it’s been eye-opening for me.

Just about every failed marriage is due to selfishness on the part of one or both of the people involved. At some point, we become selfish and start forgetting who we have been blessed with as a spouse, and we begin to look elsewhere for attention and satisfaction.

There is obviously much deeper stuff related to this, but this is the core of what happens.

Fortunately, God has provided us with every possible means of avoiding this trap. He can teach us how to make our marriages last a lifetime, even in these days of adultery, fornication and billions of failed marriages. We don’t have to fit the mold that this world has tried to force us into!!

Today, I am so happy to share my life with Pastor Ellie, the woman that God has blessed me with. We are celebrating 29 years of marriage today!

God has done this and He has shown us that a marriage doesn’t have to be doomed to destruction. It can be happy and strong, even in the face of adversity and hard times.

We give God all the glory for our relationship. He is the one that has taught us to make it work and make it happy!

We pray for each and every one of you who reads this, that you will be blessed with a strong, happy marriage. And for those of you who have been through a divorce, or are going through a divorce, that God will strengthen you and give you what you need to live victoriously, in spite of your circumstances.

If you’re still unmarried and seeking a spouse, wait on God to provide the one He has for you! Waiting isn’t easy, but when God provides for us, it’s worth the wait!
