Bible Verse of The Day – 9-23-23

Psalm 89:8 (NKJV) 8 O Lord God of hosts, Who is mighty like You, O Lord? Your faithfulness also surrounds You.

Have we ever felt that, even as a believer, we have no control over most things?

We think we have it all together. But if certain things were to fall through right now, we may not handle it too well.

And we would be left crying out for help just like everyone else.

We are not alone if we feel like that at times. It shows us that we are human.

Some people will say, “just have faith and it will work out”.

There is truth in that. However, there are steps that we may be required to take. Even in that it takes time to work it out.

And during that time, however long it takes, we will go through a lot of emotions; some ups and some downs. And there may be moments of just wanting to give up.

The most important thing to remember isn’t the lack of control we have over most things, but that we have the MIGHTY One, our Lord, to bring us through whatever we face.

His faithfulness surrounds us! Amen.

Jeremiah 1:19 (NKJV) 19 They will fight against you, But they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you,” says the Lord, “to deliver you.”

Be encouraged today. Our deliverer is at hand.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-22-23

Jeremiah 1:9-10 (NKJV) 9 Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me: “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. 10 See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, To root out and to pull down, To destroy and to throw down, To build and to plant.”

If you spend any decent amount of time reading the Old Testament, the sovereignty of God becomes more visible and irrefutable.

God uses man to carry out many of His plans, but it is God himself who lays those plans and orchestrates them.

He puts people and things in their proper places to make His plans possible, even when that means defying human logic, defying human understanding, and even defying the natural laws of science, physics, etc.

He is God. There is no one like Him.

The book of Jeremiah is full of examples of God’s sovereignty.

The choosing of Jeremiah as His prophet is just one of them.

God chose Jeremiah (Jeremiah 1:1 – 5).

Jeremiah resisted, stating that he was too young (Jeremiah 1:6).

And God replied:

Jeremiah 1:7-8 (NKJV) 7 But the Lord said to me: “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak. 8 Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord.

God then touched the mouth of Jeremiah, commissioning him and setting him up to speak His word to nations and kings.

God has not changed. He is still in the business of building, planting, rooting out and pulling down, raising up kings and removing kings, all to carry out His plans in the earth.

Trust Him with everything. He is faithful and able to do what He says He will do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-21-23

Genesis 2:7 (NKJV) 7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

The Biblical account of the creation of man is so beautiful!

When I read of how God made man, how He was so precise in what He did and how He did it, It leaves me in awe.

It all started with God forming man and then breathing into man’s nostrils the breath of life.

That breath of God brought man to life!

We didn’t evolve or come from apes. We came on day 6 of creation.

We were formed by Him. We were fearfully and wonderfully made in the beginning, when all things were created.

Psalm 139:14 (NKJV) 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.

Don’t let people twist or distort what happened during those six days of creation.

Don’t let them plant doubt in your mind and cause questions to arise.

Know what the word of God says, and believe it. Hold onto it when people try to bring in their own theories or question what God says.

It’s very simple; God created the heavens, the earth, and every living creature, in six days. Human life began on day six, when Adam took his first God-given breath. Amen.

Thank you, Lord!

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-20-23

Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV) 3 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.

Peace is sometimes hard to find. We look for it in things or people we trust.

We frequently fail to find it.

Why?

Because we are looking to things in the natural world to satisfy our minds; our human understanding.

Perfect peace is even harder to find if we are looking to those same natural sources.

There is one true Source for perfect peace; the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).

As we watch the world turn upside down it can be difficult to rest our minds.

We see the turmoil and it causes our minds to take off on wild journeys, wondering about all the “what ifs”, considering the endless possibilities for gloom and disaster.

And as long as we leave God out of the equation, that list of possibilities will be truly unlimited.

But we need to be clear about something. God does not work based on the “what if” principle.

He is the God of absolutes.

And it is in Him that we find perfect peace; the peace quells our anxieties, calms our fears, and brings rest to our minds. It is His peace that surpasses all understanding.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

People of God, it is not for us to trust in the institutions of the world. It is not for us to find solace in the things of the natural world. It is not for us to look to people or things to bring us peace during times of trouble.

Let us trust in Him, staying our minds on Him, where we will find perfect peace.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-19-23

Hebrews 4:2 (NKJV) 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.

We can hear the gospel all day long, but that is not enough to save us. We have to believe what the Word of God is saying!

Are we stuck in a rut today?

We read our Bible, we attend church services, and we are taught. However, we are not growing.

Our heart has not changed, and our relationship with God is stagnant; never changing or growing.

Believing God’s word and taking steps to obey it is what will bring change to our hearts and all our situations.

Without believing in and walking out His word, we will continue to stay in the same place.

What we do will determine whether we grow or not.

Do we believe God parted the Red Sea, or is it just a great story to us?

Exodus 14:21 (NKJV) 21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided.

Do we believe God restored Job and all his loss, giving him even more then he had to start off with?

Job 42:10 (NKJV) 10 And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.

Do we believe it rained for 40 days, and Noah built a huge Ark to hold him, his family, and two of every kind of animal?

Genesis 8:6 (NKJV) 6 So it came to pass, at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made.

Do we believe Jesus Christ suffered for us, died on the cross for our sins, and rose on the third day?

Luke 24:46-47 (NKJV) 46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Remember, reading is not enough.

We must believe in our hearts that what we are reading is truth, and have faith that God will do mighty things in our life.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-18-23

Isaiah 53:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him.

God clearly knows how to expose the hearts of people.

In this ancient prophecy, Isaiah predicted that the coming Messiah would have “no form or comeliness” and He would possess no “beauty that we should desire Him”.

First, let’s clarify what that means.

Having no “form” implies that He would have no “stately form”; nothing royal, no kingly pomp.

Lacking “comeliness” implies that He would arrive without great splendor or fanfare that was easily noticed or beheld. His birth and arrival would not be noticed by those who failed to discern the spiritual seasons and events of that time.

It is important to note that His birth was clearly announced by the shining of the bright star leading people to Bethlehem (Matthew 2:1-2). But few noticed it.

The end of verse 2 states that there is “no beauty that we should desire Him”.

Jesus did not adorn Himself in majestic robes, fancy jewels, or expensive clothing. Nothing about His physical appearance would draw people to Him or cause them to desire (honor or worship) Him.

His true identity would be seen only by those with spiritual discernment that allowed them to see. Even then, it would require great courage to hold onto that conviction as pressure mounted from the religious leaders to disregard Him and label Him as a false prophet and a blasphemer.

In the end, He changed the hearts of many who heard Him and saw Him move in ways that only God in the flesh could have done.

But I often ponder this question; if I had lived in those days, would I have recognized Him, the Redeemer, Immanuel, God with us?

Or would I have been among the crowd of people who rejected Him based on peer pressure and false accusations, shouting “crucify Him”?

I thank God that I have found Him, and I know Him through the blood of Christ who offered me salvation, and for the leading of His Spirit, who showed me truth that has set me free.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-16-23

Genesis 2:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

The heavens and the earth and all the host of them were finished on the 6th day! On the seventh day God rested. Wow!

It’s so inspiring to know that God Almighty rested.

Maybe some of us won’t feel so guilty about taking a rest knowing that God also rested.

How important it is that we stop what we are doing and pull away from our work. Our minds and physical bodies need rest.

We may be strong, but we still need that time off, for ourselves and for our loved ones. Shut that mind off. Make sure we take a rest.

As we learn to do this, we will see our lives change, feeling more peaceful and settled.

Resting allows our bodies to heal and stay strong. Our health literally improves from proper rest.

Rest also drives stress away, allowing our minds to be at ease and not always tied up in knots from too much thinking.

Let us follow the example of God, our Creator, taking the time to rest as He did.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-15-23

John 8:32 (NKJV) 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

This well-known verse is quoted often, even by those who know little or nothing of God and His true freedom.

Even Christians will use this verse outside of what it really means.

While this is not necessarily wrong, it is always a good idea to understand what Jesus was referring to when He spoke these words.

First, there is a bit of symbolism here.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

John 14:6 (NKJV) 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

If we know Jesus, we know “the Truth” (Him), and He sets us free from sin and bondage.

Beyond that, He is speaking of knowing truth that will change us, altering our lives and our destiny in a way that nothing natural can do.

That truth revolves around Him and what He represents; spiritual rebirth, death to sin and new life in His salvation.

Jesus spoke the words in John 8:32 to the religious leaders of His time.

They were rigid, stiff-necked people who were so steeped in tradition they failed to recognize their own Messiah.

In his teachings, He sought to help them gain understanding of their lost condition and the deception that they were slaves to.

Sadly, most were never able to see past their ritualistic traditions, opting instead to have Jesus crucified.

Despite what they chose, let us choose true freedom in Christ; freedom from the cares of this world, freedom from the power of sin in our lives, and freedom from death and the grave.

These are some of the things Jesus was referring to when He spoke of freedom.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-14-23

2 Peter 1:5 (NKJV) 5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge…

What is virtue?

Virtue is described as a disposition to choose actions that succeed in showing high moral standards; doing what is right and avoiding what is wrong.

When someone takes pleasure in doing what is right, even when it is difficult or initially unpleasant, they can establish virtue as a habit.

A more succinct definition would be: moral excellence; goodness; righteousness.

Peter instructed us to add to our faith, virtue.

We need to take on the attitude of walking out high moral standards, taking great pleasure in doing what is right, and letting it play a big part in our daily walk.

Sometimes doing the right thing can cause discomfort with those around us that are not on the same page as us.

When we choose to do right, it can immediately bring conviction to those who want to do the opposite.

For us, walking in virtue will come at a cost.

We may lose friends. We may even find family members that differ with us.

They will not want us around as much simply because we choose to do right instead of doing the wrong thing.

Adding virtue to our faith will make a statement as to who we have become as children of God. Others will not recognize us because we are not the same as we once were.

They may even try to make us think that there is something wrong with us, and accuse us of thinking we are better than them.

Pay no attention to that.

Continue giving all diligence to do the right thing, and choose actions that succeed in showing high moral standards at all times, walking as God has called us to!

Add to our faith, virtue. Amen.
