Bible Verse of The Day – 10-27-23

1 John 2:1 (NKJV) 1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

Sin is part of the lives of every human being. It is a sad fact, and a reality that we each must face.

We are human, and we fall short of the glory of God, as stated in Romans 3:23.

We are sinners saved by the grace of God (Ephesians 2:8-9).

The degree to which each of us sins varies from one person to another.

There are distinct reasons for this variation from person to person, but much of it revolves around our spiritual growth and maturity.

Ideally, our sins will decrease as we mature in Christ.

John specifically states in the verse above that he has written “these things” so they (his readers) will not sin.

In “these things” he is referring to what he wrote in 1 John, chapter 1, immediately prior.

He is not stating that living a sinless life is possible. Christ was the only man to walk the earth who could accomplish that.

But he is encouraging them to take whatever steps are necessary to avoid sin as much as possible.

John states that when we do sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous.

That fact should bring us hope, reminding us that if we are in Christ, we are not condemned because we are under the blood, which deems us as righteous in God’s sight.

But let us heed John’s instructions as he urges us to take the necessary steps to refrain from sinning, not by our own strength, but by the leading and the power of the Holy Spirit.

By Him and in Him all things are possible. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-26-23

Daniel 2:21 (NKJV) 21 And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding.

People of God, let us not allow others to cause us to fret.

God is in control. He is aware of what’s happening in our personal lives, and in the world around us.

We really don’t need to stress over anything.

But, there is one thing we need to do if we want to know what is happening and why it’s happening.

We need to know how to pray and we need to know when to fast.

And that understanding comes by being faithful and drawing near to Him.

James 4:8 (NKJV) 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

This will keep us “in the loop” when it comes to knowing what is going on and why. It will give us a better understanding and help us to not be shocked when certain things take place.

God holds it all in His hands. The seasons, the changes, the wisdom, the understanding. It all belongs to Him.

He will bring change when needed. He will give us understanding of it all as we seek Him and His righteousness.

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

When we begin to fret over what we hear or see, we’ve been out of the loop with Him. It’s time to get back in by drawing close.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-25-23

Luke 10:17 (NKJV) 17 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”

As the number of followers of Jesus multiplied, He spent time instructing a specific smaller group of them.

When He felt they were ready, He then sent them out on their own, in teams of two.

He wanted them to see and understand firsthand what it meant to be one of His disciples.

After a period of time, the length of which the Bible does not specify, they began to return home. And when they had all returned, they gathered and discussed what had happened.

The disciples were elated to share with Jesus, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name”!

As they shared this, Jesus spoke. And in verse 19 He said the following:

Luke 10:19 (NKJV) 19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

He wanted them to know that what they experienced was not abnormal. It was exactly what should have happened because of the authority found in His name.

And then He went on to tell them of the authority that was being given to them for their future ministry work as they preached, taught, and spoke in His name.

He wanted them to understand the importance of their work. But He also wanted them to know that He was empowering them to do that work.

And then He warned them about something.

Luke 10:20 (NKJV) 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

You see, although Jesus understood their excitement and enthusiasm, He also wanted them to understand what was really at the heart of all this; their eternal destiny, their salvation.

And we should also understand this.

Many things cause excitement and enthusiasm. Many things can catch our attention. And none of this is inherently wrong. In fact, these things can be incredibly good.

But we need to make sure that the thing we pay the closest attention to, and the thing that excites us the most is our eternal salvation.

For nothing rises above this in the grand scheme of things.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-24-23

Ephesians 4:29 (NKJV) 29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

This isn’t too hard to do when we are among those who are good-natured, respectful and carry themselves with integrity.

However, when we are around the opposite type, it can be very hard sometimes to discipline our mouth, and very easy to let something out that is not edifying or encouraging.

I pray frequently for God to help me keep my mouth under control. It is something we will likely struggle with as long as we are alive.

The words from our mouths are powerful, and the enemy knows this fact.

He will fight tooth and nail to get believers in a habit of saying things that line up with him and his agenda, which is always to bring death.

Do not eat of the fruit of death. Choose words of life!

Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV) 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

If he can manipulate us into speaking words against another brother or sister in Christ, what happens?

He has managed to get two people who have the power to bring life into a situation, to do the opposite by speaking wrongfully, hurtfully and destructively.

When we speak corrupt words or tear one another down we line ourselves up with the enemy.

We need to choose whether we are going to lift up or tear down. When we lift each other up we are doing the work of the Holy Spirit, edifying one another, and speaking life into their current situation.

This is a good reminder today for us all.

Let’s take it serious and get our mouths lined up with God’s word.

Keep it clean and in a state of edification, no matter what others say and do against us.

Let us remain diligent in disciplining our tongue so we may bring grace to the hearer. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-23-23

Matthew 22:37 (NKJV) 37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

As I was pondering on the things of God yesterday evening, this question came to me:

How much do you love God?

It came to me not only as a direct question for me to respond to, but a question that I should also ask others.

The intensity with which we love God will impact every single aspect of our lives.

Furthermore, the depth of our love for God shows our level of understanding when it comes to who He is, what He has done for us, and where He falls in our life’s priorities.

I know that may cause some to flinch, and it may even cause others to feel like that is a little on the legalistic side.

But let’s look a bit closer so we can better understand this.

These words were originally spoken in Deuteronomy 6:5, as God spoke to Israel and laid out His commandments and rules for their lives.

Jesus quoted it when a Sadducee tried to trick Him, asking Him, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”.

Jesus called this the “first and great commandment”, giving it the ultimate priority in the life of a believer.

As we begin to understand the importance of this more completely on a personal level, we will begin to see ourselves change.

We will no longer think of ourselves first. Instead, we will put God first, taking Him into consideration in everything that we do; every choice we make, every word that we speak, every action that we take.

Our love for God will overrule our love for other things; our habits, our tendencies, our hobbies, our lusts, our desires, etc.

For some, this change happens slowly over time. For others, it happens very quickly. Either way, it is a transformation that is undeniable.

The speed at which this happens in our lives is, without a doubt, dependent upon the depth of understanding we have when it comes to the seriousness of loving “the Lord Your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind”.

And regardless of the speed, the most important thing is that it does happen.

With all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-21-23

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

If God is prompting us to take a step of faith today, we shouldn’t hesitate.

We may not know the details of it all, but the first step is the most important one. And God will show us more as we submit to Him.

When we step out not knowing how it is all going to turn out, that is walking in faith at its finest. Faith walking is one of the most exciting ways to live as a believer.

You see, God has a way of opening doors for us that we could never open on our own, by our own intellect, our own wisdom or our own understanding.

Abram’s door came with a big change, and a command to leave his country; to go out from his family and his father’s house, to a place unknown to him.

I’d say Abram was not walking by sight. He couldn’t know or see what was before him. He had to walk by faith.

Genesis 12:1 (NKJV) 1 Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.

Who today needs a door to open? Who needs a God-inspired plan? Who needs a God-changed life?

It’s called, “the land that I will show you.”

Are we willing to walk by faith, not knowing what lies ahead of us?

Are we willing to take steps that we never thought we could take?

Are we ready to grow and see God’s hand on our day-to-day life?

This walk is not just about God opening doors for us while we sit idly by and wait.

We will have a part to play in it. It’s a two-part walk where God does His part, and we must be willing to do ours in order for it to work.

We may have to do things that take us out of our comfort zone. Not to worry though, it is very rewarding when we see the outcome of it all.

Are we ready for an adventure?

There is an old saying, “if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen”.

Some may say that walking in the kind of faith that Abram had to walk in is too hard, and they may be inclined to try to “get out of the kitchen”.

But as believers trusting in Almighty God, let us say, “we are ready, Lord. Take us all the way. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-20-23

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

We have been made new in Christ!

Sometimes it can be easy to forget this.

He took our old, sinful self and made us new by the washing of His blood.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel anything but new.

Life can wear on us and cause us to forget who we are, and Who we belong to.

Then the enemy whispers in our ear and reminds us of our old life and our old self, telling us that nothing has really changed. He may even remind us of some of the things we did in our BC (before Christ) life. And that can really cause us to stop and think.

But instead of thinking about how bad and dirty those things make us feel and getting caught up in the negative side of that, we need to use that as a weapon to remind the enemy that we are no longer that person.

If we have truly repented, and we have been washed in the blood of Christ, then we are forgiven. The old self has been made new.

We are no longer condemned. We are no longer sentenced to death and eternal separation from God.

So, don’t let the devil drag you down a road that takes you backwards.

We cannot allow him to take us back to those times when we were dirty and separated from God, living a life that revolved only around ourselves and satisfying the desires of the flesh.

So, the next time the enemy begins whispering in your ear about who you used to be, remember these three phrases; washed in the blood, saved by grace, new creation.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-19-23

Daniel 2:21 (NKJV) 21 And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings…

He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding.

We have all taken a hit these last few years. But just like examples from the Old Testament we can see that there will be good leaders and there will be bad/poor leaders.

Some will help us to prosper, and some will cause us to be in a drought or famine.

We all have been hit in one way or another, but be encouraged today.

No matter what comes our way, God is always in control and can redeem the mess we are seeing. He will only let things go on for so long.

In Noah’s day He took evil out by a flood.

Genesis 6:17 (NKJV) 17 And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die.

Sodom and Gomorrah went down by fire and brimstone.

Genesis 19:24 (NKJV) 24 Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens.

With the Egyptians, under Pharoah, God said enough is enough, ”Let my people go!”. And He took out Pharoah’s army, drowning them in the sea.

Exodus 8:1 (NKJV) 1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Let My people go, that they may serve Me.

God raises up and He tears down. He sets the stage for correction and deliverance.

It’s the fear of the Lord that is the beginning of knowledge.

Know Who we serve, continue to follow Him and walk in reverence toward Him.

We will know the truth and He will set us free.

Proverbs 1:7 (NKJV) 7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

People of God, we know it’s not been easy. But better days are coming. Don’t fear what we see or hear. Fear the Lord and grow in knowledge.

He is faithful to restore that which was lost, and rebuild what has been broken.

We praise you, God! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-18-23

Proverbs 6:6-8 (NKJV) 6 Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, 7 Which, having no captain, Overseer or ruler, 8 Provides her supplies in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest.

Some translations of the Bible have labeled this verse “The Folly of Indolence”.

Indolence might be defined as laziness, idleness, slothfulness, lethargy, or apathy.

Laziness or being idle can be dangerous for us in many ways.

It can cause us to reject learning or gaining new understanding in certain matters that impact our lives. Many of those matters can have major, lasting consequences.

It may seem to us that not taking the time or making the effort to learn new things is the easier path.

But that ease is short-lived when the consequences of our slothfulness hit us.

It is important that we allow God to teach us and show us our errors so we can make the necessary corrections.

If we were to watch the ants, squirrels, and other kinds of animals, many work tirelessly during seasons of plenty to store up for those leaner times; the seasons of famine.

They are not working under a supervisor or a captain who gives them orders and tells them what to do.

They just do what has been instilled in them by their God-given instincts.

They store up and prepare for the tougher season ahead, so when it hits, they are well supplied and ready.

We should learn to do the same.

As humans, we often fall into the trap of easing back on our discipline during times of plenty, slacking on storing up. And this catches up with us quickly.

A lean season arrives, and we find ourselves wishing we had been more diligent in our efforts to manage what God has blessed us with.

Let us be like the tireless ants. And let us not fall into the trap of thinking we are smarter than them simply because God has given us intelligence and the ability to reason.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-17-23

Proverbs 4:6 (NKJV) Do not forsake her and she will preserve you.

Who is this scripture referring to as her? Wisdom.

Proverbs 4:7 also tells us that wisdom is the principle thing to get.

How do we get such wisdom?

James 1:5 (NKJV) 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Yes, getting wisdom requires us to ask God for it and He will give it generously or in abundance!

The NIV translation says, He will give without finding fault.

We need to hear this and know that God does not look down on us when we come to Him for wisdom.

He doesn’t say, “Oh boy, we’ve been here before, do we have to do this again?”.

No, He does not find fault. He is gracious, and He wants us to go to Him, trusting in Him and asking for His help.

Each time we go to Him and wait on His answer, we have already begun to take the first steps in walking in such wisdom.

In this world we live there will be hard hits and trials that we will have to walk through. But we will remain safe if we seek His wisdom and abide by it.

Proverbs 1:33 (NKJV) But whoever listens to me will dwell safely. and will be secure, without fear of evil.

We all know that when trials hit, fear usually follows. Let us not take the road that fear would lead us down, but remember to listen to the One who knows us better than we know ourselves. He will keep us safe.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NKJV) 3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.
