Category: Trusting God

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-31-22

Romans 4:20-21 (NKJV) 20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

Sometimes God requires us to do hard things.

Sometimes those things seem downright impossible. But that’s because we look at them through human eyes, analyzing them by human standards.

Serving God fully requires that we change that, learning to look at things through God’s eyes, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Abraham had to do this. He had to look beyond his age and Sarah’s dead womb to believe that God’s promise of a son would be fulfilled.

God is the God of the impossible. He is miraculous in His nature. He does what man says can’t be done in ways that man could never even conceive in his finite mind.

This is something that we all need to remember and hold close to our hearts.

It’s something that we need to be reminded of every now and then, so we don’t lose hope and let our faith in Him falter and grow dim.

On the contrary, as we face challenges and impossible situations, our faith needs to grow stronger, not become weak and impotent.

Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born. Sarah had not been able to conceive or bear a single child her entire life.

Despite this seemingly impossible situation, God made good on His promise. And Isaac was born.

This is our God; the God who makes the impossible more than possible by His mighty hand.

Matthew 19:26 (NKJV) 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-5-22

1 Kings 19:3 (NKJV) 3 And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

Elijah was a great man of God; a powerful prophet who knew God’s strength and faithfulness.

He accomplished many great things as God’s prophet of that era.

Knowing this, it would seem that Elijah was without fear.

But that’s not true.

Elijah was a human, just like you and me. But after a mighty victory against 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah, he became scared. And his fear drove him to run into the wilderness and hide beneath a tree, fearing for his life.

You see, Elijah very quickly forgot what God had just done through him. He forgot that God was his source of strength. And he forgot about God’s faithfulness.

He let his enemy (Jezebel) get into his head, and he started operating by his emotions, instead of by the spirit.

And fear kicked in, causing him to run.

After he escaped into the wilderness, he begged God to take his life. He had gone from a mighty, conquering warrior of God to a fearful, tearful man, hiding from a woman who had threatened him with harm and death.

There, as he wallowed in fear and self-pity, he collapsed and fell asleep.

But an angel of God came and woke him, urging him to arise and eat, and giving him instructions to leave and go to a mountain where he would meet God.

God did meet him there. And He showed Himself to Elijah in a very powerful way.

He had a chat with Elijah to correct what was going on in his mind. And then He sent Elijah on another mission.

So, what can you and I learn from this? What can we apply from Elijah’s situation to our own lives?

We need to always remember God’s sovereignty. We need to always remember God’s provision. And we need to always remember God’s mercy.

You see, God never abandoned Elijah. It was Elijah’s emotions that got the best of him and caused him to become fearful.

God never punished Elijah for the fear he displayed or for the pity party he engaged in. Instead, God spoke with him, helped him get understanding, and then sent him on another mission.

And while He visited with Elijah, God showed Himself to him as He passed by the mountain.

God showed Elijah mercy and compassion. And in that mercy and compassion, Elijah drew strength from God and went on to complete all that God had for him to do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-2-22

Job 42:10 (NKJV) 10 And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.

Job had been through quite an ordeal.

He had lost his family, his possessions and his health. And to top it off, his wife and friends were giving him very bad advice.

Job had spent a fair amount of time speaking words about God that were not favorable. He demanded an audience with God so he could question God on some things that were bothering him.

Some of those things included questioning God about the way He handles injustice, and the evil that he had seen play out over his years.

Ultimately, God had come to Job and corrected Job’s incorrect assumptions and ideas. And Job repented.

God also scolded Job’s friends for their foolish words and horrible advice for Job.

Here is a key thing we can learn from what transpired.

God told Job’s friend, Eliphaz, that he and his other friends had aroused God’s wrath against them because they had spoken incorrectly about Him. And then He told them to make a very specific sacrifice and let Job pray for them, “lest I deal with you according to your folly”.

Eliphaz and his friends obeyed God, as did Job, who then prayed for his friends and saved them from God’s wrath.

Because of Job’s repentant heart, and his obedience to God, God restored what Job had lost, and increased it.

And while some may focus on the fact that Job’s possessions were doubled, that’s not truly what’s important.

What is important is that Job repented and obeyed God. And it was this that caused God to restore Job’s losses.

Finally, it’s interesting to note that the words used in the original text actually said that God “turned the captivity of Job”, meaning that God released Job from the captivity of his situation. And then He restored his fortunes.

The key takeaway from all of this?

Stay humble. Repent. Trust in God’s sovereignty.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-12-22

Psalm 73:28 (NKJV) 28 But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all Your works.

Battles are part of life. Yes, even for believers this is so.

In fact, as believers, battles are apt to be a bigger part of our life than if we were unbelievers.

There’s a good reason for that, but we won’t dig into all of that today!

Suffice it to say that we will all face battles as part of our walk with God.

As we face these battles, there are two things that we need to be sure we do. These two things will help us push through the battles with victory.

1. We need to be sure to stay close to God, even during our battles.

Many times, we tend to pull away from Him when we face tough situations.

Why?

Because we get in our heads and try to fix everything intellectually.

Logical thinking doesn’t win spiritual battles. A strong spirit and razor-sharp discernment do.

So, in order to have those qualities, we absolutely need to stay close to God.

And those qualities, along with perseverance, will help us win.

2. The other things we need to be sure to do is to continue to trust God with our finances.

This means that when things get tough, we don’t stop giving.

God has promised that if we give to the storehouse, He will open the heavens and bless us (Malachi 3:10).

He has also told us that He will rebuke the devourer for our sake, protecting the fruit of our ground (Malachi 3:11).

But He can only do this if we give (tithe)!

God doesn’t need our money. He owns it all anyway.

But, because our finances are valuable to us, our faithfulness in giving shows (proves) our trust in Him.

And it speaks to the enemy as well. It’s like shouting at the top of our lungs, “you can’t stop me, devil. I trust my God more than I fear you!”.

And it’s important to note that in Malachi 3:10, God tells us to test Him in this.

This is the only place in the entirety of God’s word that He says we are allowed to test Him. That is serious stuff right there.

So, let’s take God at His word, obey Him, trust Him.

Let’s draw near to Him. And let’s give as He has instructed us to do, even during our most fierce battles.

These things will show God that we trust Him, and will help bring victory no matter what we face.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-23-22

John 16:33 (NKJV) 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

When things go wrong, the storm has hit and we are laying on our backs looking up, trying to clean up the messes, remember Who’s we are.

Don’t look at it all at once. Start with one day at a time. Sometimes even one hour at a time.

It’s not easy, and no one said that this life would be. Jesus said it all when He talks about tribulations. But He does end it on a good note.

He has overcome and so will we!

Maybe we’ve been through some things and we hurt from it. Maybe we are deeply scarred.

Don’t let the joy be lost. Choose to let God help us laugh again and to shine bright.

It may not happen immediately. But over time we will heal and find the strength to smile again.

Laughter will fill our hearts once again and we will have a testimony to share with others that may bring encouragement and victory in a dark season.

Look up today. Our help comes from the Lord, our Overcomer!

Psalm 121:1-2 (NKJV) 1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-18-22

Psalm 19:14 (NKJV) 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.

I truly enjoy reading and studying God’s word. With each bit of new understanding I gain, I am drawn closer and closer to Him.

I have learned that the deeper mysteries of the word really draw me in and help me mature as a believer.

But sometimes I like to reflect and meditate on some of the most foundational truths. They help shore up my faith and keep me grounded.

This scripture is one of those.

Specifically, those last five words really sum up who God is to me; “my strength and my Redeemer”.

And I especially like the Hebrew word for strength literally means “rock”.

That is what God is. He is my Rock.

He is who I cling to every minute of every day.

Why?

Because He is the only One who can be counted on day after day to be stable and unchanging.

In Him there is no variation or shadow of turning (James 1:17).

What exactly does that mean?

It means that, unlike everything else about the earth and the rest of creation, He never changes. He doesn’t move. He is fixed (stationary), so to speak, so there is never any danger of Him not being there or suddenly changing.

He is the one constant in each and every one of our lives.

Cling to Him. Draw near to Him. Trust Him with every fiber of your being.

He will never, ever fail us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-2-22

Psalm 73:25-26 (NKJV) 25 Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. 26 My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Don’t dwell in the land of negativity. Know that God is on our side, and He can turn things around.

Sometimes it may seem like He doesn’t move when we would like Him to. Or maybe He doesn’t move the way we would like Him to.

But if we trust Him and stay steadfast, knowing He will get to the bottom of it, He will. And it just might happen in ways we would have never dreamt of.

God likes to have something to work with. He loves when we give Him a sacrificial offering, so to speak. It shows Him we are really serious!

And it’s important that what we offer Him is not just what we want to give Him, but something He may want us to give up.

This is usually something we are going to feel the loss of. Things that cost us a little bit of discomfort will usually cause us to get serious.

It catches our attention when we give up things we enjoy having. Money and food are two very good examples of this!

They are two of the most important things that bring comfort to us.

How do we sacrifice our money and our food to God? Through tithes and fasting. When we are obedient in doing these things, we will see change.

We may be asking God, “what do we need to do today?”.

Here’s the answer to that question.

We need to stop the negative talk about how bad off we may be, and do something about it.

And what do we do about it?

We trust God with our sowing and fasting, knowing that He will provide for us in whatever we may be going through.

Get serious with Him. He is our strength. Amen.
