Category: Treating Others Kindly

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-6-24

Proverbs 25:21-22 (NIV) 21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. 22 In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.

If only we could get this right. How different our lives would be.

When we view someone as an enemy, we tend to have a “standard set” of reactions within us, stored up and ready for that moment when they are needed to inflict reciprocal harm or punishment on those who would hurt or harm us or our loved ones.

It is a natural human reaction.

It is not, however, a Holy Spirit-led reaction. It is our flesh acting out.

God’s word tells us plainly that we are not to repay evil with evil.

1 Peter 3:9 (NIV) 9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

In fact, Jesus told us that if someone strikes one cheek, we are to turn the other cheek to them.

Matthew 5:39 (NKJV) 39 But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.

This flies in the face of every human emotion that rises in us when we are treated in ways that are less than what we expected.

But it is what God expects of us; treating others as we would like to be treated, even when they have acted to the contrary.

It is seldom easy. We absolutely need to lean on the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to lead us in actions that conflict with what our flesh wants to do.

But though it may be difficult, we can do this, through Christ, who strengthens us.

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-20-19

1 Peter 3:8-9 (NKJV) 8 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; 9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

When we return love for evil and can be a blessing to someone that has treated us badly or spoken negatively about us, this shows that God’s compassion, tenderness, and mercy are moving very strongly in us.

Those 3 things functioning in us will confirm that our focus is no longer on ourselves, but on pleasing God. Our focus is no longer on getting someone back or thinking we have to be right, but on knowing the right thing to do in that moment , and doing it, even while faced with evil.

God’s mercy being shown in the right time is what touches the hearts of men, women, and children.

If we want to walk in the blessings of God, let these verses penetrate so deeply in us that we won’t think twice when the opportune time arises. We will be willing and honored to take that moment to let God’s love and His light shine brightly through the things we do and say.

Matthew 5:16 (NKJV) 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-21-17

Luke 6:31 (NKJV) 31 And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.

If we want respect, we have to give it. It’s as simple as that.

This is hard to maintain when we are around those that drive us crazy. But even in those moments when we don’t care for a particular person, their actions, or their attitude, we can still do right by showing respect, no matter how we feel.

We have to do good by everyone. We can’t just pick and choose who we want to do it for. We have to remain respectful, even to those that get on our nerves, under our skin or irritate us.

This doesn’t mean we have to be best buds with them. There is a difference. It doesn’t mean we have to spend a lot of time around them. But, it does mean that when we are around them, we need to honestly be respectful.

There are no ifs, ands or buts about it. If we want people to respect us, we need to show respect. That’s just how it works.

If we can’t do this with a sincere heart then we need to check ourselves. God needs to have a little time with us and help us get to the bottom of it. It’s always fun getting to the bottom of something, because then there’s only one way left to go, and that’s up. We can begin to move forward again.

If God is speaking to our heart today, know that it is for our own good. We need to respect others, no matter how they have treated us. They will have to answer for their actions, just as we will answer for ours. So, let’s treat others the way we want to be treated.

Dear God in Heaven,

I come to You with all sincerity in my heart, and I ask for Your help in learning how to respect others. Even those that have done me wrong, mistreated me and are just hard to deal with. Please help me Lord to understand why I need to respect them. I’m sorry if I have been functioning in a bad manner. Please forgive me. I want to make things right in my heart today with those people that I have a hard time respecting.

I ask You to help me, Lord, to get past this, and that my actions may be pleasing to You.

Thank you. In Jesus’ name I ask. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-29-16

Matthew 7:12 (NKJV) 12 “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

This verse will help us to learn discipline. It will teach us a very important lesson. Because it doesn’t say only do this to men that are treating us right.

It’s easy to do good things to those who are kind to us. But we all know that there are those who will come along and get us going and strike a nerve, causing our emotions and feelings to want to react.

Learning how to treat others the way we want to be treated, instead of the way they are treating us, causes us to cross over into an area where we put ourself, our emotions and our feelings aside to do what is good and what is right, no matter how we are being treated.

This is what makes people take a second look and say, “there is something different about them”. This is when they see God’s light, His love and His discipline in us.

Know that God will help us with these tough cases, to do what is right, as long as we don’t react out of our emotions and feelings. Instead, we need to stay calm and let Him guide our hearts in treating them how we would want to be treated.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-9-15

Deuteronomy 10:17 (NKJV) 17 For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe.

Let’s take some time today and check ourselves and our behavior toward others, to make sure that we are not showing partiality or taking bribes to do things a certain way for certain people.

We have to be careful that we don’t treat a person better than we treat someone else just because we may like the way they carry themselves, or because maybe they do nice things for us, or they’re easy to get along with.

It’s good to check ourselves and ask God if we’re showing partiality at home, in the workplace, in the church, in the classroom, on our sports team, etc.

He will help us to stay balanced in this area, being fair and honest, no matter how much pressure gets put on us.

He is a great, mighty, awesome GOD! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-8-14

Jeremiah 51:15(NKJV) 15 He has made the earth by His power; He has established the world by His wisdom, And stretched out the heaven by His understanding.

Have you ever been around people who have been given a new position, with certain power, control, or authority and now all of a sudden they are different acting toward you and those around them?

Their attitude changed from the person you once knew, to maybe thinking they are better than or bigger than those around them. That’s called puffed up, having a big head, and being full of pride and arrogance. They let their change of position or title change their attitude and cause them to look down at others, as if they are suddenly better.

I remember as a young child, just lying on my bed thinking about how powerful our God is, but yet how good He is to us; how He loves us, and helps us, how He is there for us whenever we call on Him.

God is the most powerful of all, but yet with all the power, wisdom, and understanding that is within Him, He chooses to love us.

He chooses to be a Father to us. He doesn’t look down at us and treat us like peons and laugh at us when we do foolish things. He helps us and calls us His sons and daughters.

2 Corinthians 6:18 (NKJV)18 “I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty.

This is how we need to treat others, no matter what title we have, or position we hold, or how wise we may seem. God’s example of how He treats us is how we should treat others; with love and respect.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-19-14

Hebrews 13:2 (NKJV) 2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.

Many people will talk about how we should do our best to please God and represent Him, even when nobody is watching us. Because even when people don’t see us, God surely does.

But we also need to be diligent when it comes to the people we meet and don’t know. Whether it’s in line at the grocery store, in our car on the highway or wherever we go.

The way we treat others is a reflection of our walk with God and what’s in our heart. But we also never really know who we’re interacting with. It’s not impossible to think that we may actually encounter an angel and never even know it.

The cool part is that God chooses not to have them reveal themselves to us as angels because He wants to see how we’ll handle ourselves.

So when we’re in that not-so-friendly mood, it might be best to put our best foot forward when we’re dealing with others, even when we don’t really feel like it!

Be blessed and have a great day.
