Category: Our Words

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-3-24

2 Timothy 2:23 (NKJV) 23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife.

What kind of talk are we getting caught up in?

If it’s idle talk that isn’t going anywhere, hold back. Instead, pray! Prayer goes much further and bears good fruit.

When we get into heated conversations and our words are not going to make a difference, why bother?

Why do we even want to engage in conversations that are going to generate strife, causing people to become angrier than they already are?

We need to learn that there will be conversations where we will need to explain or break down certain things in detail. However, such conversations will be led by the Holy Spirit, not by our emotions.

He knows the right tone, the right words, and has the wisdom to reach people where they are at. Let Him guide our conversations and they will be fruitful and fulfilling.

We will walk away knowing that He gave us what we needed to speak about, bringing life into that very situation.

Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV) 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-16-23

Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV) 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

An important thing we can learn in life is how to live each day correctly, by choosing the right words. Saying and doing things in the right season at the right time is something we must learn.

Can we agree that words are powerful?

Knowing what to say and when to say it will help us to make a difference in a very simple and straightforward way.

It will take disciplining our flesh, and taming the desire to want to say whatever, whenever we feel like it.

At times it will take great strength to not say a word, even though we think what we have to say will help the situation.

Stay in tune with our Helper, the Holy Spirit. He loves to guide us through these situations. Do we trust Him enough to follow?

If we want to do our best, we must follow completely, not pick and choose when we want to follow.

Is the Holy Spirit leading us to hold back today on saying certain things to those that we would love to speak out to?

If so, don’t underestimate His guidance. He knows what will work and the timing of it all. He knows what will protect us from bringing destruction against ourselves by using the wrong words at the wrong time.

I am excited about being more attentive to Him! I feel like the day has come when we are all tired of getting the same old results.

Maybe we are just tired of talking and not seeing any fruit from what we say.

It will be a new season for us when we say, “OK, Holy Spirit, guide my lips today. Help me to speak when You prompt me and to say what You put in my heart. Let me be a vessel You can move through”.

Let’s bring life, instead of death and destruction. Let our words be acceptable in Your sight, Lord!

Psalm 19:14 (NKJV) 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-25-21

Proverbs 13:2 (NKJV) 2 A man shall eat well by the fruit of his mouth, But the soul of the unfaithful feeds on violence.

The fruit of our mouths brings us provision.

What we eat will be determined by how we control what comes out of it.

If we want to live well, we’d better watch what we are saying and doing.

Our tongue is powerful. It makes our life simple or it makes our life hard. What will we choose?

Death and life are in the power of the tongue.

Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV) 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

We are seeing a lot of violence and corruption these days that can easily lead us into negative talk.

If we can find the good, and focus on that, it will help us to keep our heads up and our mouths speaking the right things.

We will reap from the fruit of our lips.

Don’t let these times and the tough seasons pull us into negativity. Look to the One who holds our future in His hands.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV) 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

We are not alone. We are not losing ground. We are simply dealing with corruption that needs to be exposed and addressed, and God knows how to address it.

Stay strong, and don’t fall in the hands of the unfaithful. Their way is not our way. They feed on violence. We feed on God’s Word, and the fruit from it is Amazing!! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-11-20

Proverbs 15:1 (NKJV) 1 A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.

The words we speak can have a large impact on our lives and the lives of others.

Part of how they impact people is more than just what we say. It’s in how we say them.

When someone is combative and argumentative, the worst thing we can do is argue back with them.

The best thing we can do is speak softly and with kindness, even if our flesh tells us otherwise.

This is a very hard thing for some of us to learn, especially if we have a strong personality that feels the urge to “set people straight” all the time.

But I have personally seen this defuse many tense situations over the years.

And if speaking kindly to someone who is being belligerent and offensive doesn’t defuse the situation, it’s probably best to walk away anyway, since arguing with them won’t accomplish anything.

There’s nothing deeply spiritual about this. It’s just tried and true wisdom from Solomon, someone who had lots more experience than most of us ever will when it comes to dealing with many different people of varying personality types across a multitude of situations.

Despite its simplicity, it can be life-changing for so many of us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-31-20 – Confess With Your Mouth

Please click to watch the video now.Greetings in the name of Jesus.

Many years ago, we were taught that it is wrong and dangerous to speak any words that are negative. Doing so could lead to undesired things happening in our lives.

We eventually learned that this wasn’t scriptural, and we made adjustments to correct it, based on the leading of the Holy Spirit.

In today’s video, Confess With Your Mouth, we discuss this and use examples from scripture to show the truth about this topic.

We hope you will take a few minutes to watch and listen.

Enjoy your day.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-25-20

1 Corinthians 6:19 (NKJV) 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

Knowing that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and not our own, will cause us to be careful in how we present or carry ourselves.

We will feel accountable for our every action, and we will be convicted of things we do that used to be OK to us, but are now no longer acceptable.

When we get around certain people, if we are not careful, they can draw us into foolish talk, gossip, and laughing at inappropriate behavior.

The Holy Spirit will give us a heads-up in advance. We need to be listening. Usually that is our way out. Take it, or stand to be corrected later.

Sometimes He will be strong in alerting us. Other times it may be just one word; “STOP”. And it’s up to us to act accordingly.

You might say, “what do we do if we are in the middle of a conversation, with everyone’s attention on us, and we realize we shouldn’t go there?”. We change it up really quickly.

Believe me, if the Holy Spirit is prompting us not to say something, and we obey, He will help us recover ourselves and find something else to talk about.

I have been in predicaments at times when I was stopped in my tracks. In the middle of speaking, I would hear the Holy Spirit say, “change the subject now.” That is not the time for questioning Him. We just need to do it.

His convictions are real and they are there for a good reason. He will help us in every area of our lives.

When we realize we are not our own, and we want to please God more than man, we will begin to be more attentive, more willing to obey. Our desires will lessen and His will begin to grow stronger.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-13-19

1 Peter 3:10 (NKJV) 10 For “He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit.

Our words hold weight. So, watching what we say can be a full-time job.

Taking our time speaking, instead of just blurting things out can sometimes be critical. It will help us to get a handle on this and teach us that our first thoughts are not always the ones we should say out loud.

Taking our time before speaking will help us hold back that tongue, and keep us from getting in trouble and saying the things that are not right.

Our minds may try to justify it in that moment, telling us that we have every right to say what we want. But if we take the time to think it through, we will see our thinking can be off at times.

James 1:19 (NKJV) 19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath…

An uncontrolled tongue coming from a believer in Christ will immediately turn off any unbeliever and keep them from wanting to hear anything we have to say regarding Christianity.

Forget witnessing to them. We lost them right off the bat. Even though they may use bad language, gossip or speak harshly themselves, they will judge our actions because of the label we wear. And they will think that we are not different in any way, rendering our words useless.

A heart that has truly been changed will change our tongue, change our actions, and change our love for others.

People outside of Christ know what to look for in a Christian even if they never have stepped inside a church.

Remember, if we want to help change the world, we need to start with our own tongue, by keeping it tamed.

James 1:26 (NKJV) 26 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-24-19

James 3:2 (NKJV) 2 For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.

Words. Tiny little, intangible things that can wield incredible power.

Indeed, they are potent. They have the power to tear down or to build up. How we use them is up to us.

We all have shortcomings. But our words can be the hardest one to rein in.

James said in the verse above that if we can rein in our words, we are perfect (mature).

That says a lot!

We may be able to fend off many other temptations, but still struggle with gaining and exercising control over our tongue, one of the smallest members of the human body.

So, how do we conquer this tiny little thing that causes us so much trouble?

We let God sanctify it by His word and guide it with the Holy Spirit!

God has given us every tool we need in order to live lives that are pleasing to Him, including taming our tongue.

And as we give ourselves over to Him, a little at a time, we will begin to see ourselves change and hear ourselves speaking fewer damaging words and more encouraging, uplifting words.

We can speak death, or we can speak life. Which will it be?

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-7-18

Proverbs 16:24 (NKJV) 24 Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

Our mouths speak many, many words on a daily basis. What comes out of them is driven by what’s in our hearts. And what’s in our hearts is based on where we’re at in our walk with God.

Obviously, not a single one of us is perfect, even if we wish that we were. We will have good days and bad days, good hours and bad hours, and even good moments and bad moments.

But as a whole, it’s important that we allow God to mold us and shape us so that when we speak, the words that leave our mouths are pleasing to Him. If they’re pleasing to Him, they will be the best words that could be spoken.

This doesn’t mean that we should never say things that might offend someone. Sometimes the truth offends those who need to hear it. But it’s not due to the way it’s said. It’s due to fact that it’s said, because it contains truth.

Jesus spoke words that offended many simply because He addressed things that needed to be addressed and confronted people who needed to be confronted. The important part, though, is that He spoke things with love, not with a haughty or judgmental attitude.

So should our words be spoken, pleasant like honeycomb, albeit through the somewhat tainted heart of a less-than-perfect human being, but ultimately giving sweetness to the soul and health to the bones. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-19-18

Matthew 15:10-11 (NKJV) 10 When He had called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear and understand: 11 Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”

It’s crucial that we pay attention to the words we speak. We must watch our mouths if we want to get ahead in life.

We are not children. We are adults. We can’t be saying things that are not good; gossip, slander, lies, foul language and negativity. It will hurt us and set us back in many ways.

Our motion with God should always be focusing on moving forward. We should not be setting ourselves back, especially with our own tongue.

If we are wondering today why we are not moving forward, we may need to take a good look at the words we speak.

What are we saying that could be defiling us? Check ourselves today and make sure our language is clean. And if it isn’t, let’s ask God to help us clean up our talk.

We will see change and forward motion only when we begin speaking words that are pleasing to God.
