Bible Verse of The Day – 11-18-14

Lamentations 3:25 (NKJV) 25 The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.

We need to teach ourselves to seek God and wait on Him for direction and answers every day. It may not be what we are used to doing, but It is the way to get good Godly results. It will cause our situations to change and we will be the head and not the tail.

Deuteronomy 28:13 (NKJV) 13 And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.

Observing the things God shows us to do in any given situation can be an exciting way to live!

Many times when God has given us directions or has shown us what needs to be done, usually it is not what we would ever have thought of on our own.

Trust Him, stay open minded and know that He is faithful to help us in all areas of our lives! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-2-14

Hosea 4:6 (NKJV) 6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…

The truth is that there are times when we can destroy God’s good intentions for us by not listening to Him. We suffer, and others around us may suffer for us not listening.

God’s Word brings knowledge. It brings clarification, healing, deliverance and victory to any given situation. He speaks to us at different times and in different ways.

Sometimes God may want to use a person to speak through, at a particular moment or time in our life. If we shut them out of our life, for whatever reasons, we may be shutting out God’s way of reaching us at that particular time, for that particular reason.

None of us are perfect in hearing or knowing God’s voice, and it takes time and we will make mistakes trying. God knows this and He works with us as we continue to try to do what’s right. But there are those times when we are just being stubborn. We know what He wants from us and we ignore or run from Him or from anyone He may be using.

The book of Jonah shares about how Jonah was a man that ran from what God wanted him to do. He didn’t want to listen to God and the plan that God had for him.

Jonah ended up going through some unnecessary circumstances in his life until he decided to do what God was asking him to do.

Some of us today are going through some unnecessary things in our lives simply because we don’t want to listen to or do what God is saying.

We need to stop blaming our circumstances, our hurt, our losses and our errors on everyone and everything else, and let Him help by speaking to us from His Word and through others that He has sent to help bring clarity to our situation. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-22-14

Joshua 5:6 (NKJV) 6 For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people who were men of war, who came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they did not obey the voice of the Lord-to whom the Lord swore that He would not show them the land which the Lord had sworn to their fathers that He would give us, “a land flowing with milk and honey.”

40 years.

That’s how long it took the Israelites to travel what should have taken them 12 days.

Why?

One word: disobedience

God provided a way for them to leave slavery. He fed them, clothed them and provided them with shade in the daytime and light during the night.

An entire generation literally passed away, died, in the desert, because of their disobedience. What a shame.

Are we like the Israelites sometimes? Do we wonder “why it’s taking God so long” to do something.

Sometimes it’s not really God that’s slowing things down, but us. We are the problem.

We need to be diligent to hear God and then to obey Him and do what He tells us to do.

If we could just get this right more often, we would spend way less time “waiting on God” and more time enjoying His blessings.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-6-14

1 Samuel 15:22 (NKJV) So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.”

Obedience is better than sacrifice. There’s a lot more to this little phrase than most people realize.

God requires certain things of each of us. There are specific things that He asks or tells us to do or not to do.

Sometimes we get things a little mixed up in our heads and try to go one step better than God, thinking that maybe our way is a bit better than His.

And while our intentions might be good, this isn’t pleasing to God, even if our way requires a sacrifice of some kind.

God wants our obedience, not our sacrifice.

Back in the days of Samuel and David, they would literally sacrifice an animal in honor of God, as a form of worship. We don’t do this any longer, but sometimes we will sacrifice other things in an effort to show God how loyal we are.

But this is exactly the kind of thing that God doesn’t want. It’s not that He doesn’t like us to sacrifice, it’s just that He prefers us to obey Him, rather than to add our own little twist into what He’s told us to do.

So if God is telling us to do something, we need to do it! We shouldn’t add to it or take away from it.

We just need to do it His way. After all, it’s a pretty sure bet that He knows more than we do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-9-14

(Proverbs 1:33 NKJV)  But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil.”

Sometimes we just don’t want to hear or learn one more thing pertaining to certain subjects, because once we’ve learned it we are now accountable for it and when we make our decisions, we now know the right thing to do.

Remember our parents telling us when we’ve done wrong, they’d add “and you KNEW better!” Why is that? Because they had spoken to us previously about it, explaining the consequences and didn’t want us to repeat it again. We needed to listen.

Listening to God brings safety to our life. If we are a parent listening to God as He teaches us how to parent, it brings safety to our children. If we are ministers listening to God, it brings safety to our congregation or those we minister to, and if we are a husband listening to God, it brings safety to our wife and family, etc.

When we follow God and do what He says, we need to be listening to all of it not just some. We can’t be just picking and choosing the things we like to hear or do, but truly listening and following Him in everything. Then we will dwell safely, and we will be secure and without fear of evil.

Shhh… listen today. What is God saying to you?

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-23-13

1 Samuel 15:22 (NKJV) 22 So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.

It can be easy to get fooled into thinking that making sacrifices is important in our walk with God. Somehow, we get our signals mixed up and it seems like we begin to get proud of how we give up this or that for God.

But in reality, we can sacrifice all we want and still not be pleasing God!

When push comes to shove, God would much prefer that we obey Him, rather than to get caught up in sacrifices.

Sometimes obeying Him will require sacrifices, but the obedience is much more important to our walk with Him than the sacrifice itself.

If we’re not obeying God’s voice and what He requires of us, the sacrifice is equal to idolatry and will only give us a false sense of righteousness.

Obey God’s voice first. Sacrifice only if He asks us to.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-11-12

(Acts 12:8 NKJV)  Then the angel said to him, “Gird yourself and tie on your sandals”; and so he did. And he said to him, “Put on your garment and follow me.”

To gird yourself means to prepare (oneself) for action. Peter was in prison when the angel came to him and told him to gird himself. Peter did what the angel told him and he walked right out of the prison.

Can you imagine being in that place and having an angel come and lead you out? Wow! I would hope that I wouldn’t be in total shock and miss my opportunity. Peter did what the Angel told him to do even though part of him was not sure what was happening, (Acts 12:11) he didn’t try to figure it all out… he just listened and moved and walked right out of the prison, undetected and untouched.

Today, what is God trying to tell us? Is He trying to set us free from what is keeping us in prison, bondage, slavery, etc.? And are we so busy trying to figure it out, that we aren’t moving, we aren’t girding ourselves? Are we still in prison, locked in chains because the way God wants to set us free doesn’t make sense to us?

We need to gird ourselves today, prepare for action and move forward, following Christ’s plan for our release.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-12-12

(1 Sam 15:28 NKJV)  So Samuel said to him, “The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you.

God watches us and how we handle things that He has given to us. Are we following His direction or trying to do things ourselves, in our own way?

Some may think that after they have entered into a position or have gotten what they wanted from God, they are all set and they leave God on the sidelines and do the rest themselves.

Well, that was not the case for Saul and it is not the case for us. If God opens a door for us and gets us into a place or raises us up into a position, or calls us to do something for Him, we should let Him lead even after we have received what it is that we were seeking.

We can’t let ourselves get prideful in thinking that we are the only one for that position. There are others who can do it. God may have preferred us for it but if we don’t follow directions, He may have to step in and change it up.

God knows our hearts, thoughts and motives. Let us keep them pure today and follow Him.

Together, in Him, we will get the job done!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-19-12

(Mat 15:18 KJV)  But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

What comes out of the heart is what defiles a man. That is where it all starts… in the heart.

You see, by the time it comes out of the mouth the damage was already done. It was the heart that passed it through. We shouldn’t just repent for the words we have spoken, but for our heart’s condition. That is the root of it.

Have you ever heard someone say, “we need to get right to the root of the problem”? The root is where something starts growing and grows deeper if it remains in place. No matter what changes you make, if those changes aren’t at the root, it will keep coming back.

This year I planted a garden and when I go out to weed it, the weeds look so little compared to the plants themselves. However, when I pull them up they are strong and they like to break off right at the ground. But, the root of them is beneath the ground and if I don’t rip it out, that same weed will come back.

Our heart is the root of a lot of our problems. It’s a hard thing to admit to some of the things that are in there. But once we see them, they’ve been exposed to us and there is no hiding it any longer.

The first thing we need to do is ask God to help us get it out of there. It won’t go away on its own. It takes work and, like anything else, it takes sacrifice. It takes giving some things up that mean a lot to us; letting go of things that make us feel comfortable and making adjustments.

It might not be comfortable or pleasant at first, but it’s a necessity if we want to grow as a believer.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-9-12

(Jer 1:8 NKJV)  Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you,” says the LORD.

Taking a stand and saying the things that need to be said takes courage and the Holy Spirit to Help. I can testify that there are times, right before I have to say something that I know needs to be said, I get very uncomfortable and even shaky all over. I shake whether it is one person, ten or 200 hundred people; it doesn’t matter.

I struggle at times speaking up and this is an area in my life where I really need prayer and help. I love to bring good news to people and love to make people smile, so when it comes down to saying something that I know is not going to make them smile, everything in me fights it.

I have learned that making people smile is good. But helping people to grow and become all that God wants them to be is better!

I can assure you that there will be times when we all may have to say or do something we are not comfortable with. Remember this verse and hold it dear to your heart when that time comes, for this is a promise.

God will deliver you!!
