Category: Obeying God

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-12-25

John 9:6-7 (LSB) 6 When He had said this, He spat on the ground, made clay of the saliva, and rubbed the clay on his eyes, 7 and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went away and washed, and came back seeing.

When a person has lost their sight, or perhaps they have been born blind, they seek help to gain or regain their eyesight.

The man in the verses above was seen by Jesus and His disciples as they walked by. The Bible says he was blind from birth.

Jesus knew it was meant for Him to heal the blind man and give him his sight.

Jesus could have simply spoken a word or laid His hands on the man’s eyes to heal them.

But He chose to do something different than the expected norm.

Jesus spat on the ground, mixed his saliva with dirt, making mud. He then rubbed that mud on the blind man’s eyes.

Then, He instructed the blind man to go to the pool of Siloam and wash away the mud.

The man obeyed. And when he had washed, he was no longer blind. He had been healed!

No matter how we look at this, spitting in dirt and rubbing mud on the man’s eyes is not conventional, nor an expected way to heal someone.

But this is how Jesus chose to do it. The reasons He did so are irrelevant.

And this is how God moves; in the way He sees fit.

We may never know the reasons He chooses to move in these specific ways, but that is not for us to know or understand.

God may move a specific way for one situation. And then He may choose to move in a completely different way for a situation that appears to be very similar.

We should never box God in and demand or expect Him to do things the same way repeatedly.

On one occasion, He told Moses to strike a rock. And water gushed out. On another occasion, He instructed Moses to speak to the rock. Similar situations with different instructions.

It may not always be healing that we need. But regardless of the need, it pays to do as God shows us to do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-4-25

Esther 7:3-4 (NKJV) 3 Then Queen Esther answered and said, “If I have found favor in your sight, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request. 4 For we have been sold, my people and I, to be destroyed, to be killed, and to be annihilated. Had we been sold as male and female slaves, I would have held my tongue, although the enemy could never compensate for the king’s loss.”

Up until the point in the verses above, despite being the queen, the wife of the King, Esther had not revealed her people or her family to the King. Out of obedience to Mordecai, the man who had raised her, she was not to say anything.

Esther 2:10 (NKJV) 10 Esther had not revealed her people or family, for Mordecai had charged her not to reveal it.

She would never have told the King if it wasn’t for the plot that came against Mordecai and all the Jews.

This plot was being carried out by a man named Haman. Haman wanted to destroy all Jews throughout the kingdom of King Ahaseurus.

Word of this plot got to Queen Esther. And at this point in time, she needed to let the King know who she really was and what was being planned in order to destroy her people.

For the longest time, she had to keep it silent. But now, at this moment, she needed to speak it.

By revealing that she was a Jew, everything was turned around. The evil that was being perpetrated against the Jewish people through Haman was immediately null and void!

As she obeyed and waited for the perfect timing to reveal her identity, God’s people were preserved, and rescued from ruin.

Esther, the beautiful, orphaned Jewess, was brought in at this specific time to save her people!

You just never know how important our obedience to God is at times. The effect it may have on many others.

What is God asking of us today? Do we need to be silent, or do we need to speak up?

Are we going to be like Esther? Can He use us for such a time as this?

Obedience is the key for God to be able to use us at any given time.

Doing it His way is everything we need if we are to be victorious in what He asks us to do!

Psalm 18:30 (NKJV) 30 As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-20-25

Proverbs 21:3 (LSB) 3 To do righteousness and justice Is chosen by Yahweh over sacrifice.

Much of the word of God is aimed toward teaching us how to walk before God; what pleases Him in our lives.

This is about much more than being a good person. It is about obeying Him, that our lives might bring glory and honor to His name.

We often get this principle confused with making sacrifices.

We believe that if we sacrifice our time, our finances, or some other things it will please God even though we fail to obey something He has instructed us to do. But this is a terrible mistake on our part.

The Bible is plain about this, as it is also stated again in 1 Samuel.

1 Samuel 15:22 (NKJV) 22 So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.

Our time and effort are better spent doing as God has instructed us to do rather than what we think we should do.

Our obedience pleases God more than anything else.

Let this serve to remind us of this important truth, that we do not get caught off guard and spend our days making sacrifices while failing to obey Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-14-24

Isaiah 41:13 (NKJV) 13 For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’

We want to speak to you today from our hearts.

God has been very faithful to us.

When we started Seven Seas Ministries, that name came to us through a dream.

In the dream, a young woman was out walking in the evening. A van pulled up next to her and men came out to grab her, kidnap her, and hurt her.

As they approached her, she heard the words, “seven C”.

Nearby was a hotel. So, she ran as fast as she could to that hotel. And on the door, she saw 7-C.

She knocked on it and someone opened it and let her in. She knew it was a safe place for her to be.

Seven Seas Ministries got its name from this dream. It is a place for people to come and find refuge; God’s love, hope, mercy, redemption, and encouragement.

One night in 2001, as we were in a sound sleep, God woke us both up at the exact same second.

As we sat up in bed, we looked over at each other and one said to the other, “I just felt something, like a touch on my lips.” And the other of us said, “me too!”.

As we went on to describe it, we realized that we’d both received the same touch, at the exact same moment, waking us both up!

God touched our lips. And from that day, we began to speak what He puts in our hearts to say.

We stepped out by faith to do His work. And He showed us people from all around the world helping us to get the job done.

Those people are you!

He has touched your heart and has brought you here. You help us accomplish what He has put in our hearts to do.

You are a big part of this work. Without you we literally cannot do what we do.

Through your financial gifts, we have been able to get much work done. We have seen many miracles and heard testimonies of many people’s lives being changed by the word of God.

God bless you and may you reap from your sowing.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-5-24

Luke 12:42-44 (NKJV) 42 And the Lord said, “Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? 43 Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. 44 Truly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all that he has.

As Jesus was spending time with His disciples, He taught them using a parable.

He was instructing them regarding the importance of the faithfulness of servants.

In this example, He used the illustration of a servant who had been found faithful by his master. Because of his faithfulness, the master made the servant ruler over his house.

That servant was placed in charge of all other servants, making sure they were fed and cared for in a timely manner.

Jesus went on to teach that such a servant is blessed for his diligence.

Jesus then contrasted this example with another; an example of an unfaithful servant.

Luke 12:45-46 (NKJV) 45 But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk, 46 the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

Instead of staying faithful, the servant decided to take advantage of his master’s absence. He lapsed in his duties and proceeded to beat his fellow servants, and then ate and got drunk.

As the unfaithful servant languished in his revelry and drunkenness, the master returned unannounced, catching the servant in his dereliction.

The master angrily “cut him in two and appointed him his portion with the unbelievers.”

The words that Jesus used to show the consequences of an unfaithful heart were stern, direct, and to the point.

Although Jesus often taught using symbolism in His parables, it would benefit each of us to consider the literal ramifications of this kind of unfaithful behavior.

Is our heart truly faithful?

Do we honor Him even in secret when nobody is looking?

Do our lives reflect a heart that is faithful to our Master?

These are some very sobering things to ponder.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-18-24

Job 5:17 (NKJV) 17 “Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.

This verse is amazing!

I know, I know,… no one likes to be corrected, especially when we are adults. But this verse, if we embrace it, will help us live a much more joyful life.

How many times do we say to God, “help me to know what I need to do”?

How many times do we cry out, “God, I need your wisdom”?

How many times do we say, “God, where are you”?

But when He shows up, do we not like what He says we must do or say?  We think, “this can’t be Him; He wouldn’t ask this of me”.

God will bring perfect correction every time. The question is, “are we open to it?”.

Just the other day, I was crying out to Him; “Lord, help me to be your vessel and to learn to say and do the right things”.

I will admit, sometimes I become exhausted because I have been in intense training, trying to get it right.

How many of you know what it feels like to be in intense training for something?

You feel like you are dying by the end. So much work and discipline go into getting ready to achieve your goal.

And what seems to be the worst is realizing how much we lack in certain areas.

But I know you’re probably thinking, “why bother?”.

Why? Because it is all part of our growing process.

Allowing God to correct us and teach us is the beginning of a beautiful relationship with Him, and becoming that vessel He can use!

2 Timothy 2:21 (NKJV) 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.

Hallelujah, correct us Lord!

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-5-24

Galatians 3:27 (NKJV) 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Each day we rise from our sleep and begin to prepare for the day ahead.

For many, part of that preparation is deciding what to wear; what clothing we will put on.

In the verse above, Paul wrote that if we have been baptized into Christ we put on Christ.

And just as we choose our clothing each day, we must choose whether we will wear Christ or not.

We must choose whether we will live and behave in a way that Glorifies Him and represents the kingdom of God, or if we will walk in the ways of the world.

You see, being a follower of Christ is a choice we make.

We make a choice to put our faith and trust in Him, and then we choose to walk with Him daily or not.

Some may frown at that notion saying, “if we have put our faith in Christ, then we are walking with Him (putting Him on) automatically each day”.

But the reality is that this is not always true.

The enemy is always knocking at our door, tempting us to “take Christ off” by emulating or following the path of the world.

No, if we make a poor choice and sin, which we are all guilty of from time to time, we have not necessarily taken Christ off.

But if those sins become habitual, and our faith falters, we are in danger of taking Him off and leaving Him behind.

And this is what Paul was warning the Galatian believers about.

So, it is pertinent that we make every effort to walk out our salvation daily, with fear and trembling, as Paul spoke to the Philippian believers about.

Philippians 2:12 (NKJV) 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-26-24

Luke 21:19 (NKJV) 19 By your patience possess your souls.

As Jesus spoke to His disciples, He began warning them of some things that were to come that would signify “the end of the age”.

His first warning was that no one fall victim to the deceptive tactics of the false messiahs who would come.

He went on to tell them of numerous signs and events that would take place that would be very difficult for those who had to endure them.

There will be great earthquakes, pestilences, fearful sights, and great signs from heaven.

He then expounded on the great persecution that His followers will be subjected to during that time.

Part of this persecution involves “them laying their hands on you” and “delivering you up to synagogues and prisons”.

And “they will put some of you to death” for your faith.

Why will this happen?

Because His followers will be hated for His name’s sake.

These are not easy things to talk about or to imagine having to endure.

But Jesus was speaking truth that we must all embrace the reality of.

None of us knows if we will face these things. But we must all understand that it is a real possibility, and that we must be prepared for it should it happen.

Jesus didn’t speak of this to scare His disciples. He spoke of it to prepare them!

But after all His warnings, He reassured them that “not a hair of your head shall be lost” if they stood firm, patiently enduring and persisting in their faith.

What would they gain by their patient endurance?

Here is what 4 different translations say:

NKJV – By your patience possess your souls.

NLT – By standing firm, you will win your souls.

AMP – By your [patient] endurance [empowered by the Holy Spirit] you will gain your souls.

NIV – Stand firm, and you will win life.

These 4 translations each state this truth a bit differently. But the meaning is the same. Stand firm and protect our eternal destiny.

Faith in Christ is not for the weak or the faint of heart.

It is not something we should approach flippantly or lightheartedly.

Let us all do whatever is necessary to make our calling and election sure.

2 Peter 1:10 (NKJV) 10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;
