Category: Making Wise Choices

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-12-23

Psalm 37:23 (NKJV) 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.

Are we still waiting for the answer as to why our life has turned out the way it has?

Are we questioning why we are still in the same place we’ve been in forever, dealing with the same outcomes?

It is usually because of our own choices and the steps we take without getting and following God’s counsel.

It’s not hard to understand, but it can be hard to accept.

Once we do accept it, we will usually take a deeper look into where we stand and what we can do to bring change, from this point on.

Making the “right” choice, or the choice we think is good for us, may not always be God’s choice for our situation.

When we make a Godly (God-based) choice, we will find ourselves praying, listening and waiting on His answer before we decide what to do. We will find ourselves relying on His direction.

Both can be hard at times; making the right choice from our own understanding or making the Godly choice.

Making the right choice from our intellect takes some discipline. Making the Godly choice may take a substantial amount of discipline, along with a lot of selflessness and patience.

We cannot think of ourselves when making Godly choices. We must leave ourselves and our emotions out of the equation, and think only of what God wants for us and from us.

If we have been making right choices vs Godly choices, we can’t be down on ourselves. We did what we thought was right at the time.

However, if at any time in our walk we discover we’d rather have His choice for us, we can start by simply asking Him to help us from that point forward. And when that time comes, include Him In making our next decisions.

He is faithful to order our steps as we surrender them to Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-23-21

Deuteronomy 20:4 (NKJV) 4 for the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’

Are we challenged on our job? Do we feel like we can’t get ahead of things? What is happening with our plans? Does it feel like nothing seems to be going right?

How do we turn things around when it feels like this?

We all know that life’s struggles can be up and down.

Sometimes we feel as though we are on a cloud. But it doesn’t seem to last that long, and then we are down in the valley again.

We ask God, “why the struggle? Why can’t we stay level just for a while? I’m so tired of this, and I don’t want to have to do it again”.

We have to take a look at what we are doing.

Why?

Because many times the results of our choices are what’s putting us on this never-ending cycle of ups and downs.

It’s hard to break habits, schedules, routines and just plain old everyday ways of thinking.

We have to reach a point where we just say, “OK, I’m done with doing it the same old way. I’m going to push myself to let God bring change in my way of thinking”.

We need to be strong and patient if we want the best results. We need to allow God to push us beyond what is comfortable for us, and say, “OK. I’m not going to step in the way this time, even if it takes a little longer than I expected”.

And we have to mean it.

How many can relate?

I know, because this is speaking to me today, too.

Can we stand together, praying for each other to let good and helpful change come?

We need the type of change that will make us the head, and not constantly falling back into the tail-end.

Deuteronomy 28:13 (NKJV) 13 And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.

God will make us the head:

Step one (1) have we reached the end of our rope?

Step two (2) Have we come to the conclusion that we are the cause of our situation, and we are willing to change the way we do things?

Step three (3) Can we take a step of faith and observe His way for us, trusting Him to turn things around?

Pray with us if you’d like God to help you in this area.

Dear God,

So many times I keep failing and going back to the old. So many times my heart is convicted, but my will keeps doing the same thing. I’m sorry, and I know that if I continue down this path, I will lose again.

I ask You to help me switch up those things in me that cause me to repeat the error(s) over and over again.

Give me a backbone to say no to myself, and to walk in Your way. I want to change my situation, not only for my own sake, but for my family or those I’m close to as well.

I do care and I do want to make a difference and be a good steward of all you give me.

Thank you in advance for Your help. My heart is ready to listen and I am ready to observe and do Your will.

In Jesus name. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-28-19

Romans 7:15 (NKJV) 15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.

Do we ever feel like we are not adequate to do what God wants us to do? Do we feel like we have failed Him badly, by making the wrong choice even when we knew the right thing to do?

We all struggle with this. No one is alone in it.

Trying to always do what is right is a constant, day to day battle with our flesh. And we all know that some things are much easier to do than others, especially if we are weak in certain areas.

Focusing on the things that tend to be hard for us to do is something we should be praying for. Don’t ignore them and say, “Oh, well, that’s my weakness”. Because when we do that, it shows us we have already given up on the fight.

God wants to pinpoint and help us conquer that weakness, not on our own but through His strength.

Job 4:4 (NKJV) 4 Your words have upheld him who was stumbling, and you have strengthened the feeble knees…

Do we have a hard time saying no to peer pressure? Admit it and ask God for strength in that particular area.

Do we have trouble with lust? Ask God for strength to resist it, and the wisdom to avoid coming in contact with situations that cause us to feel the way we do when we are around such things, places, people, etc.

If we are weak when it comes to eating healthy, we would rather have the sweets and yummy foods instead and we find ourselves suffering later. Ask God to take that craving for unhealthy foods away from us, bringing deliverance and a better understanding about why we need to have balance in our eating habits.

I know someone who is diabetic. They know they can’t eat certain foods. But boy, just knowing this makes them crave them even more.

It’s not easy! God gets it. That is why we need Him to strengthen us to overcome it.

There are many ways we can make wrong decisions and find ourselves stumbling as believers.

We are going to mess up from time to time, even after asking God for help with our weaknesses. But don’t get depressed and totally give up. Get back on track and start again. He knows, and He will be there for us.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-6-16

Isaiah 55:6 (NKJV) 6 Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.

If we are in the process of making a decision, whether it’s big or small, we should seek the Lord first for His direction.

If we are getting ready to start a relationship we need to spend time with God and find out if it is the person for us or not.

If we are needing work or getting ready to start a business we need to seek the Lord and get His knowledge and input on what steps to take.

Sometimes we make decisions on our own without going to God first, then we end up in a mess.

Don’t be afraid to call upon Him. He is near.

Dear God in Heaven,

I come to You today asking You to guide my steps, asking You to show me how to handle this decision. Which way do I go? What do I do? Please hear my call and answer me. Show me what to do at this time. I want what You want for me this day.

I thank You for your help and I will look to You before I take a step one way or another.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

God is faithful!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-23-14

Galatians 6:7 (NKJV) 7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

We teach on this verse frequently. This is a critically-important Biblical truth that we need to understand if we are to be mature believers. And if we’re not yet mature, we really need to get this ingrained into our spirit so we understand that every choice we make has consequences.

If we are careless with our finances, we will always struggle financially. If we don’t handle relationships well, we will either always be in conflict with others or we will simply have no friends.

If we are sexually immoral, we will struggle with broken relationships, guilt, the fear of contracting diseases and constant emotional trauma.

If we are dishonest, we will always be distrustful of others, thinking that everyone else is also dishonest.

This principle applies to any and every aspect of our lives.

This is not meant to throw stones at anyone or single out specific sins. It’s just a gentle reminder that we need to be very careful about the choices we make in everything that we do.

Even the seemingly little things can have lasting consequences if we make the wrong choices.

So if we seem like we’re constantly struggling with a specific area, or multiple areas of our life, let’s ask God to show us where we’re going wrong and what it is we need to change.

God won’t slap us down or condemn us for admitting our faults. Quite the opposite. Read what His word says about this:

1 John 1:9 (NKJV) 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

So let’s confess these things before God and let Him help us to make the changes and adjustments that will keep us from making the same mistakes over and over again.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-6-14

Galatians 6:7-8 (NKJV) 7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.

Most times we hear these verses being used with regard to sinners… people who don’t know God or who intentionally engage in actions that are contrary to God’s word.

Today, though, let’s take a look at it from a different angle. Instead of using it to point our finger at someone else, let’s use it on ourselves!

We all do stupid things. We make choices that are bad, whether intentionally or not. And the consequences of those choices will eventually come.

Sometimes they come very quickly, while other times they take a while to manifest. But there is one thing for sure; they will manifest!

So we all reap from the seeds we sow, whether we commit sins that are blatant or subtle. Anything that is contrary to what God directs us to do is sin. It’s just that sometimes we don’t really see it as being so wrong until later on down the road when we reap from what we have sown.

There are many areas that can fall into this “subtle” category. Bad financial choices, bad relationship choices, rebelling against authority, wasting the blessings God has given us, etc.

These are just a few. But hopefully they will help us see the meaning of today’s lesson.

Ask God to show you where you might be making poor choices and then ask Him to teach you how to do it differently. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you.
