Bible Verse of The Day – 8-14-20

Numbers 11:33-34 (NKJV) 33 But while the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of the Lord was aroused against the people, and the Lord struck the people with a very great plague. 34 So he called the name of that place Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had yielded to craving.

The Israelites had a habit of whining.

It didn’t seem to matter what God did for them, they would whine and cry out to Him for something different than what He had provided.

On this particular occasion, they had mumbled and complained about having to eat manna for far too long. They wanted meat.

Their complaints irritated God to the point where He said that He would send meat. In fact, He said that He would send so much meat that they would eat it until it came out their nostrils!

Numbers 11:19-20 (NKJV) 19 You shall eat, not one day, nor two days, nor five days, nor ten days, nor twenty days, 20 but for a whole month, until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you…

And so, God provided Quail for them to eat.

Many of the people lusted after the Quail so badly that they literally stayed up day and night, collecting as much as they could possibly gather.

And this is where it gets interesting.

As the people who had so badly desired meat began to eat what they had gathered, while they were literally still chewing it, God struck them with a plague and they died.

Because of this, the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah.

Kibroth Hattaavah literally means “graves of craving” or “the graves of sensuous desire”.

It was their lusting, their sensuous desire for what they didn’t have, that brought death upon them.

This is an excellent lesson for us to learn from. It shows how lusting after something, even something that’s not sexual in nature, can kill us if we’re not careful.

It’s important to note that we live under God’s grace, because we are in the time of the New Testament (Covenant). So, we seldom see God move in this way, striking tens of thousands of people dead with a plague.

But He is still God. And He does not change. So, it is good that we learn from this and not play the part of the Israelites, arousing God’s anger over and over again.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-19-17

2 Peter 1:3-4 (NKJV) 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Let’s talk about lust for a moment, and the problems it can cause. Corruption in this world has come through the simple actions of lust.

When we think of the word lust, we automatically think of sex. But to lust means to crave pleasure or delight. To wish, to have intense longing, craving, enthusiasm and eagerness, but not just for sex.

If we lust after money, we become greedy. If we lust after power we become prideful, controlling and arrogant. If we lust after women or men we become fornicators or adulterers. If we lust after anything in any way, it will eventually lead to corruption.

Lust will drive us to do things that we don’t normally do. It changes our attitudes and it hardens our hearts. It blindsides us and causes us to push the important things in life aside. It ruins and destroys marriages, families, friendships, businesses and ministries.

It takes what God makes beautiful and tries to destroy it.

How do we escape from lust today?

By reaching out and grabbing hold of God’s divine power, and His knowledge, through His Precious Son Jesus Christ, that we may overcome it and live a godly life.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-29-14

Matthew 5:27-28 (NKJV) 27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery’.28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

Lust has been around since man began to populate the earth. It’s not anything new.

But I dare to say that lust is a much bigger problem these days than it was even 100 years ago. Changing trends in society have created a healthier environment for lust to breed in.

Computer technology has made it easier for immoral material to be distributed and propagated.

Fashions have changed drastically, creating new ways for members of both genders to display their flesh for the opposite sex to see and lust after outside of the privacy of our homes.

It has become hard to go into public places without seeing people with their private body parts partially or even near-fully exposed, parading around like there’s nothing wrong. Even the clothing itself leaves little to the imagination.

This presents a two-fold problem for believers. First, seeing people in this state of dress can make it very easy to lust after someone. So we need to be careful to train ourselves not to have wandering eyes, looking at things that can lead us to temptation.

And on the other hand we, as believers, need to make sure we’re not following the fashion trends and causing others to lust. Clothing keeps getting smaller and more revealing. What we wear in the privacy of our homes, with our spouse, is our own business. But when we’re in public, we need to keep ourselves accountable to God and follow His leading.

So please take this as a gentle reminder that this is an area where we can all use a little nudge once in a while to keep us on track. Let God speak to you when it comes to what we wear and what we look at.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-28-13

(Proverbs 11:6 NKJV)  The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, But the unfaithful will be caught by their lust.

Lust – it can be a sexual desire, or an intense longing, a craving, enthusiasm, or eagerness.

The question is, are we lusting after anything today?

Are we lusting after someone’s job/title/position, someones home? We could be lusting after a person, and sometimes we can even lust after someone’s Ministry/Call on their life. Let’s check ourselves today and make sure this is not the case with us.

There is nothing wrong with looking at someone’s life and loving what they did with it. That is not lusting. We can tell when we are lusting after someone or something by how we act and how we feel inside.

If we are feeling jealous, bitter or angry toward them, then we are lusting after what they have, maybe even to the point that we got caught or snagged by it.

This can cause our hearts to be changed, from being focused on what God wants us to do, to becoming consumed with trying to reach a goal, just to get what they have.

This happens every day, all around us. Why? Because we get love and lust confused.

Remember that it is the unfaithful that walk in lust. But the Godly walk in LOVE.

We don’t need to lust after anything in this world. God is more than this world could ever offer, and we have HIM. He lives in us as we give our heart to Him.

Let Love RULE our hearts!!
