Category: Jealousy

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-27-23

1 Samuel 18:9 (NLT) 9 So from that time on Saul kept a jealous eye on David.

Jealousy can wreak havoc with our lives if we don’t see it and put a stop to it.

Jealousy is not limited to any specific type of person or situation. It can hit any of us.

Jealousy that is not checked and stopped will cause us to do some terrible things and make very poor choices that can have lifelong impacts on our lives and the lives of others.

Saul was Israel’s king. He had been anointed as king by Samuel, Israel’s prophet and judge of that time.

Sadly, it didn’t take long for Saul to disobey God. This caused God to reject him as king.

Saul was Israel’s king for forty years. David was part of Saul’s army for much of that time, as well as a servant to Saul in other ways.

To say that David was an important part of Saul’s reign would be an understatement.

But as David’s popularity grew with the people, Saul’s jealousy of David also grew. So, Saul pledged to kill David.

And as his jealousy increased, his behavior became more erratic, and he became consumed with rage.

This jealousy destroyed Saul and his reign as Israel’s king.

You and I are no different. Jealousy can destroy us too.

And the funny thing about jealousy is that it can creep in or show up in some really subtle ways, so we need to be diligent to shut it down as soon as we spot it.

But no matter how subtle it may try to be, we usually know when it’s happening even if we try to pretend that we don’t.

As we can see in Saul’s life, jealousy left a trail of destruction in its wake, along with some major scars on the life of Saul and those around him.

Let us not be like Saul. But instead, let us be vigilant and sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit so as not to fall prey to this terrible thing called jealousy.

May we humbly submit ourselves to God’s leading, His warnings and His chastening, that we never let jealousy overtake us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-19-21

Numbers 5:14 (NKJV) 14 if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, who has defiled herself; or if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, although she has not defiled herself…

We want to make people aware of the spirit of jealousy, so we can deal with it appropriately.

Any wrong spirit that tries to come upon us or overtake us must be dealt with, in Jesus’ name.

And then we must make the effort and take the steps to shut the door to it completely, to prevent it from coming back again and again.

People may think that jealousy is simply an attitude in a person. But the scripture says it is a spirit that comes on us.

We may have opened the door to it by the weaknesses of our attitude and the way we look at things. But jealousy in and of itself is a spirit.

If we are often jealous of someone or something, like maybe our neighbor or a family member, our best friend, or maybe even our children, we need to begin to take steps to address this.

The more we feed it, by continuing to be jealous of others, the stronger it will become.

How do we take the steps to starve this spirit of jealousy?

  1. We begin to take steps to stop it in its tracks, first by recognizing it in ourselves and asking God to help us see who or what we are jealous of.

  1. We need to teach our flesh to react the opposite toward these people that we are jealous of. For instance, if someone is getting a new car, bigger home, new placement on their job or having a baby, etc., we need let God teach our flesh to be truly happy for them, and not allow ourselves to open the door for that spirit to slip right in.

  1. We need to learn to nip it in the bud. As soon as we begin to see ourselves giving into jealousy, we need to immediately address it. The Holy Spirit will help us in this if we surrender it to Him.

This will take effort on our part. But, be encouraged today, because God is there to help us. And with His guidance, He will bring deliverance to us.

Say no to the spirit of jealousy. Let our hearts be happy for people and their blessings!! Let us keep our heart sound.

Proverbs 14:30 (NKJV) 30 A sound heart is life to the body, But envy is rottenness to the bones.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-7-15

Genesis 37:5 (NKJV) 5 Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more.

What seemed to be a good dream for Joseph brought enmity and hatred between him and his brothers. Why? Because of jealousy.

Not everyone is going to be happy for us when good things come our way. There will be times when we can share things and times when we just need to keep it close to our hearts, between us and God.

Be careful of sharing things with jealous people and don’t let jealousy or hatred have a place in our own hearts.

Be sensitive toward God’s Spirit and let Him guide us in this area. It can save us from a lot of headaches.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-3-12

(Mat 15:18-19 NKJV)  “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. {19} “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

In its original context, this verse goes on to explain that eating with unwashed hands does not defile a man or make him unclean.

Jesus used this example to teach us that what’s in our hearts is what defiles us, not whether we have washed our hands or not.

He also used it to teach us that what’s inside of us will eventually make its way out of our mouths.

Have you ever caught yourself saying something that was contrary to what you know God would want you to say? Maybe you used some language that you know in your heart was not pleasing to God. Or maybe you lashed out at someone in anger, and then regretted it later on.

We all make these mistakes at times. The important thing is that we learn from them.

First, we need to learn self control. But more importantly, we need to understand that this is showing us who we really are inside; what’s hiding there in the darkest recesses of our heart.

This isn’t something that we should beat ourselves up about, but something that we need to go to God with and ask Him to take those things out of our heart and replace them with His love, grace, mercy and compassion.

God is the best surgeon there is when it comes to fixing hearts!

Your Daily Bible Verse – 1-30-12

Galatians 5:19-21 NKJV

Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Jealousy is a terrible thing.

Do you notice what jealousy is grouped with, here in this scripture above? Murder, hatred, fits of rage, envy, adultery, etc. These are some pretty serious things. There isn’t one of us that wouldn’t consider murder to be one of the worst things anyone can do. But jealousy is grouped right in there with murder!

Jealousy affects most of us at one time or another, in some way. It can come from within us, aimed toward someone else, or it can come against us from another person who is jealous of us.

If it’s within us, we can choose to fix it and get right with God or we can get caught up in it and let it destroy us. If we aren’t careful, it can become an obsession that will ruin our lives and make us miserable. Jealousy will cost us a lot, including friendships.

People can also be jealous of us. We will know who our friends really are when God blesses us with something and we get to see how people react to our blessings. Jealous people can be some of the meanest people around.

How do we react when a jealous person attacks us? And they will attack us. Do we get angry and lash out at them, looking for revenge and vindication? Or do we follow the verse below?

Romans 12:21 NKJV: Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

God says to love them. We need to be careful not to let ourselves become victims of jealousy, from either side.
